>always stressed out
>84% of my body is cortisol the rest is pure autism
>nothing relaxes me
>except an alcoholic beverage
Is there an alternative that will not destroy my liver and/or give me cancer?
>>
>>34967784
For me its reading or imagining scenarios in which my life is better
>>
>>34967790
When I do that it's basically meditation and then I get even more cortisolized.
>>
>>34967792
In this case maybe start working out fatty
Or at least just running or dancing
>>
>>34967794
Going outside is extremely stressful. Staying inside also though. There is no escape.
>>
>anxiety supplements
From calming over placebo to not so calming in my experience:
Apigenin
Magnesium Glycinate
Fish oil
PS (the ADHD one)
L Theanine
Ashwagandha
>>
I did consider death, that will not give me cancer. But it will fuck up my liver.

>>34967807
I don't want to fall for the muh mudicunal 'erb meme.
>>
>>34967823
The OP explicitly mentioned alcohol otherwise I would have ignored this thread, Apigenin is the stuff in camomille tea so just drink that instead
>>
>>34967784
Drinking 2 or 3 beers in a day won't kill you anon. Actually it isn't bad for you as long as you keep it within your calories.

Holy mother of bad advice, that shit is exactly how you get cancer.
>>
>>34967878
>>34967911
Drinking beer is ok if you're a medieval farmer or Sumerian laborer, not if you're a sedentary chud drowning his sorrows and lamenting the ennui of day to day. Many, many alcoholics (including myself) were minted by attempting moderation.
>>
>>34967784
box breaths
if it can relax a navy seal enough to think it can relax ur autistic ass
close ur eyes and count to four and repeat that over and over. if your mind wanders that's ok just keep counting
also possible you're unable to relax because your body now depends on alcohol
>>
>>34967878
You build up a tolerance and have to drink more and more

>Is there an alternative that will not destroy my liver and/or give me cancer?
>>
>>34967916
Your point being: If your lifestyle is healthy, a few beers won't kill you. Until a few years ago this was a reasonable assumption to make. But you know that the consensus changed. No amount of understanding for addiction can make me not mean what I said.
>>
>>34967921
I'm not a heavy drinker. I only relax (drink) once or twice a week, no more than 2-3 units. I binge drink maybe once every 3 months.

>>34967921
I do that once in a while but I can't keep that up for the rest of my life.

>>34967847
I eat celery regularly.

>>34967936
benzos are dumb
>>
>>34967936
between benzos and alcohol, alcohol wins on almost every metric unless you want to end up like Jordan Peterson
>>
>>34967997
>I eat celery regularly.
I meant to take it as a condensed natural benzo when you need it. I don't think celery or even chamomile have a noticeable effect desu
>>
>>34968087
Is this one of those things that will make me go down the nootropics rabbit hole, or something I can take on its own for months on end and genuinely help? I hate how the science on this stuff is always so vague.
>>

As someone who is deep in the rabbit hole it is the only supplement I would really recommend to try out. Most supplements have zero noticeable effect but apigenin has some. It's not life changing.
>the science
Is not really vague on stuff like magnesium and EPA fish oil, they're healthy but not really worth bothering with.
Apigenin is one of the less studied ones but among those it seems to be the most harmless.

Focus on your breathing.

Try to let go of control. Most of the things you’re extremely anxious about probably aren’t as big as deal as you’re making them out to be.

Find hobbies that you like to do. Do sudoku or work on a puzzle. If you give yourself a task to do then you won’t have as much time to ruminate on things that give you lots of anxiety.
>>
play a musical instrument, for example people with tic disorders say the tics completely disappear while they play. but it doesn't have any lasting effect, it is just during that activity
try chewing gums
>>
>>34968189
>>34968459
What do you do about the fact that 90% of hobbies are more fun when you have a drink in your hands?
>>
>>34968751
if this is the case you have a deeply unhealthy relationship with alcohol and should go cold turkey for at least a few months to reset your approach to it

if this is your mindset you should not ever drink alone and honestly avoid drinking anywhere but like a bar or a party or a meal where it's specifically the activity, and even then if you can't keep a lid on drinking it might be worth considering going sober
>>
>>34968751
playing instrument is actually super annoying if you are even a tiny bit drunk because your fingers just don't work as good
>>
>>34968767
>if this is the case you have a deeply unhealthy relationship with alcohol and should go cold turkey for at least a few months to reset your approach to it
I mean no offense, but no shit.
Not OP but even when you're doing everything "right" life just lowkey kind of sucks. Exercise makes you tired. Reading for a long time hurts your eyes. Making art or music gives you sore hands. The older I've gotten the less satisfaction I've derived from these things and the more I see them as just being more "work." Yeah it's a degen thing to say, but nothing feels quite as good as having a drink and vegging out at the end of a long day. There's a reason why in every civilization that had a means to make alcohol in large quantities, they basically drank all the time.
>>
You're chasing external validation by doing an activity and using alcohol to fulfill that chemically because you don't feel fulfilled. Most anons are fat/obese because they use junk food while you're using alcohol.
>>
>>34968832
Alcohol and and will get you fat very effectively, even hard liquor will keep you chubby and bloated as long as you're actually still eating
>>
>>34968821
yeah theres a reason alcohol abuse is widespread but alcohol abuse is still bad and as an individual you should desperately try and avoid it
>>
>>34967792
i have not, thanks for the rare pepe
>>
>>34967784
you could try other substances that act on GABA like alcohol does. substances like gabapentioids like pregabalin or gabapentin, benzodiazepines like clonazepam, alprazolam, oxazepam etc could also be an option but they do mess with your memory, (anterograde amnesia, basically you have a hard time (or are totally unable to at high doses) registering new memories while ur on benzos) and they are very addictive(moreso than alcohol). im trying out an RC/nootropic called GB-115, its anxiolysis comes from it agonizing CCK2 receptors, so it doesnt touch GABA at all and has no negative cognitive side effects, it actually increases your focus and reaction time, its already given out as medication in russia, i absolutely love it so far, no dependence or anything. way better than neurotoxic alcohol and lobotomizing GABAergic substances
>>
>>34967784
I like this thread

that is all
>>
i feel you op, i use alcohol on a regular basis to calm my nerves, which works fine for a bit, when i get too drunk it does make things worse though. need to be careful, i already have signs of an alcohol problem and should probably find other ways too deal with stress.
>>
>>34967997
>benzos are dumb
skill issue
>>
>>34967784
Unironically get into sports. Used to play judo and the calming effect of rolling with the boys for 2 hours is equivalent to smoking 5 cigarettes and drinking 2 beers. Or play any other sports that’s physically strenuous

nigga
a walk in the forest or a small hike is, like, the natural, non-chemical and low effort antidote to stress and cortisol
you need to see some green, not on a screen. everyone does
>>
>>34970215
I know I should go for walks but I haven't gone for a walk without a destination all year, despite thinking about it every day. Going outside is hard for me man.
>>
>>34970215
this is true, but not op and speaking from experience, it does not always work. i went on a walk a few weeks ago when i was feeling like shit, and it did nothing. my legs felt weak, the whole thing was pointless, i felt like shit before, during and after. complete waste of time.

but if your condition does not affect your body, only your mind, then yes, sure, go for a walk, it will make it better.
>>
>>34970230
>when i was feeling like shit, and it did nothing. my legs felt weak, the whole thing was pointless, i felt like shit before, during and after. complete waste of time.
jesus, how bad physical shape are you in?
>>
>>34970236
this is not about physical shape... do you know how depression works? people lay in bed all day not because they are physically unfit but because every muscle in their body tells them that there is displeasure in every movement. this was like that.
>>
>>34968459
>>34968751
>>34968780
This. Playing guitar everyday has helped me alot with stopping the daily use of both alcohol and weed. Both substances inhibit me in someway from practicing properly, alcohol makes me less precise and weed makes me bad at sight reading. Maybe being a little buzzed can make you better at improv and vibing out but it does not make for good practice most days. There are other hobbies that are much better done sober ie Reading, writing, painting, wood work, autistic spreadsheet games, traditional rp, etc.
>>
>>34970230
> i went on a walk a few weeks ago when i was feeling like shit
this sounds absolutely fucking crazy to me
I walk MINIMUM 45 minutes every day god makes
if I didn't, my back and legs would be shot from all the sitting on my ass, or I would be in a psych ward due to stress. it solves all the work related issues I have.
sorry if this is offensive but you sound to me like a guy who eats himself up to 450 lbs, then asks why a single day of fasting doesn't instantly make him feel better
>>
>>34970383
you completely misunderstand what i wrote. see: >>34970244
this is about depression, not being fat
>>
>>34970426
next time you're not depressed, build such healthy habits
so that you don't become depressed again, ever
>>
>>34970452
you do realize that depression is often times genetic and has nothing to do with habits?
>>
>>34970484
>nothing to do with habits
keep telling yourself that
and don't forget to take your chems, they work so well. who needs physical exercise, vit D or tryptophan sources when you can just take SSRI / SNRI
(yeah that was sarcasm, just spelling it outright because you seem stupid)
>>
>>34972972
nice strawman
>>
>>34972984
not addressing the habits either, are we? where are we at on that front
>physical exercise, vit D or tryptophan sources
because, they ARE the habits which will help prevent your depression. the ones anon pretends don't exist
