>Mid 20s
>raised by parents who had no friends and no real hobbies
>never really did anything as a kid as a result.
>cps incident, move out at 17 on my own with help from social workers
>been living in the same apartment ever since
>mostly just worked with a few breaks ('''depressive episodes''')
>can't drive
>no post secondary schooling
>have difficulty planning a move to a better city on my own
>I was supposed to move with help from my worker when I was 19 for uni but it fell through and then covid happened
>still have the chance to get government gibs for tuition because of the cps thing
so how tf do I manage this? Is it even still worth it to go to uni? I cannot do a full degree online, I need to do in person classes. A large motivation behind moving would be to actually get out into the world. I have 2+ years of living expenses at my current place saved. Should I just reach out to friends I know that have moved away and ask for help with getting an apartment or to visit? I've barely even left my hometown so I'm very, very naive to many things.

sounds like you know what you want to do but are worried it's 'the wrong call'

you will regret not doing this for the rest of your life. it's not the right idea financially or in terms of life planning, but you won't get saddled with debt and you get to do the thing you clearly want to do

Do you have an idea of what you want do in school? Reaching doesn't hurt, at least you might get an answer.

I was told to do comp sci by everyone when i was in HS but I've always been a humanities guy. I've always liked history, int relations, poly sci etc. As I stand right now, I'd be more than happy working in government/in politics (not running for office)/some other similar role. I'm not a super huge people person. I'd even be down to do boring shit like applying for grants or working in municipal government.

following on from >>34968789 , study what you're passionate about. you missed the boat on getting into tech anyway.

Was going to recommend becoming teacher but then you mentioned not being a people person so that's probably not the best idea though getting into teaching seems relatively attainable. I know someone going into teaching for art, different subject but yeah. You seem to have an idea of what you like so I would focus on that for possible career options like the other anon mentioned. Since you can't drive what do you plan on doing to get around that, short term, long term? Do you know how to drive to at least get a license, say if someone lent you their car?

I've thought about being a teacher. I'm not sure if I'd be 'good' at it, but I remember a few teachers, especially humanities/social studies teachers that really made a big impact on me. I actually know an arts teacher as well who absolutely loves it, though I feel like arts teachers tend to like their job a lot more than others. When I say I'm not a people person, I mean I'm not well suited to big public roles. I've been told I can present well but that was 10 years ago.
>can't drive
I am not licensed to operate a vehicle alone. I am working on getting my full license. It hasn't been a huge barrier in my day to day until now, but looking back, there's a lot of missed opportunity. I have some hangups around driving I need to get over.

Oh for sure, makes me wish I initially went for something I was passionate about instead of forcing myself into something I wasn't as much because it seemed more professional or rather more respected in my eyes at least back then.
>When I say I'm not a people person, I mean I'm not well suited to big public roles
Ah gotcha, you'd probably be fine then :)

Well that's good, always better late than never. Not getting into driving early enough will feel that way for awhile.

Thanks for your encouragement. As much as you could say I'm afraid to chase my passions, I'm also slightly unsure of what I want. At least it feels that way. How did you settle on what you wanted? Or was it more of a case of knowing what you need but not pursuing it?
>>
>>34969966
The latter, in high school I decided to pursue one of my other interests for a career and pushed aside art/animation. I wanted to be a psychologist or therapist and took classes for that at the closest community college due to car issues with plans to transfer to university in state after 2 years. So I didn't settle on what I wanted and those plans fell through too.
>I'm afraid to chase my passions
It can feel scary but I think what you're passionate about is genuinely viable for a number of possible careers, change can be scary too but a change a of routine might what you need especially if you still qualify for financial aid. It's definitely still not to late, as a freshman I met some 26 year olds picking school back up or going for the first time or even old people going back to school.

You need to be thinking about what job is at the end of the degree. A lot of dumb choices can be made where you won't get hired even with education because you have no connections. Something like nursing or anything else medical can get you hired right away. Also unless you live in NYC or work down the street from your apartment you are going to need a car. In my area I have seen dishwasher want ads that said MUST HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION. & bro the bus is not reliable it can be late, you can miss it and it doesn't come for an hour. It stops running late at night. It's full of crackheads with no car etc.

I don't want to keep on working minwage until I die. Ive done retail and retail sales amd hated it.>>34970758
I haven't NEEDED a car yet, but it does bar me from a lot of jobs. My previous jobs have all been in walking distance
>you need to think about what job is at the end
this is why i havent gone. I don't KNOW what job or 100% even what degree I want. I was told to just go and do generals for a few years before declaring a major, which honestly I ehould have done.
