my mother got laid off from her job, it was a nonprofitI suggested she call the welfare office to see if she qualified she said she couldnt because her job told her to, but I pushed back and she got upset when I didwhy would her last job tell her to not get welfare after laying her off?
#1 Your mom is no longer employed by them so she has no obligation to follow any direction from them about anything.#2 There's nothing wrong with her calling or inquiring about what benefits she may or may not be qualified for. Your just getting information.#3 If she is qualified for monetary help, you should definitely recommend to her that she accept it.
>>34977325Wait why the fuck would they? Why didn't your mother ignore them and demand it anyway? What are they gonna do? Fire her? Are you sure the nonprofit organization wasn't a money laundering operation?
>>34977333yeah thats what I was thinking too, like would there be a reward if I report them to the irs or somthing, but thats just my over-active imaginationIt was something regarding helping refugees AND helping them finding new jobs (ironic)>>34977332I agree with all this
>>34977325This situation screams tax fraud/ white collar crime.
>>34977504so I should call the IRS?they reward you with money dont they?
>>34977325My mother could apply for welfare and she really needs it but she refuses because she is too good for it despite being close to being homeless and making almost nothing. Its probably the same for your mother as well. Nothing you can do about it, sorry.
>>34977526I think this may be the case but im more interested in the fact that the job told her she couldnt apply after she got layed offI mean ffs her job was helping other people getting a job and they couldnt find her a new one?
>>34977536Its probably a lie. It doesn't make any sense and there isn't any reason why a non profit would say that. Also since she is laid off it doesn't apply anymore. There is like public charge stuff if your mom is applying for a green card and is an immigrant otherwise, nothing.
>>349773251) It's possible they weren't paying into the unemployment fund. Unemployment benefits aren't paid by taxpayers, they're paid by employers, and some employers are exempt and their former employess are just shit out of luck. It's quite possible that nonprofits are exempt in your state.2) It's possible they were paying for it but if she claims it then this will drive up their unemployment costs in the future and this gives them the sads.
>>34977548I went to the welfare office to ask in person whether she can qualify, and she said that she should and to call to make sure
