I have the option of mastering a General US accent or Modern RP/SSBE (British). Which one is better? Globally speaking.
British for appearancesUS for easier to understand
>>34994533I want to fit in socially, so nothing that makes me look pent up/classist.I am also a Pharmacy student who might work abroad (healthcare) so I need to be understood.100% US accent, no looking back?
>>34994488Internationally a British accent will do more for you than an American one.
>>34994488Globally speaking american is better since it's flat amd boring and has nothing particular or interesting about it
>>34994650Except that Americans are considered rude and ignorant outside of the US.
>>34994650>flat amd boringYaoughtta retract yer blabberin' yuh chicken fucker.
>>34994651They're not considered rude. They're considered superficially nice and approachable, while actually being shallow, retarded and not paying attention to what you say.
>>34994657Rude is an adjective that primarily means lacking good manners, civility, or respect toward others. They're rude.
>>34994488If you're American and know how to carry yourself around non-yanks then you're golden, nowhere to go but upalso varies by country ofc, being Americohen in Spain and meaning it is probably better than to be tan there
Just use your own accent anon, only autistic people fake accents. Hell if you live in the US or Britain you will probably pick up on it naturally.>>34994651>Americans are considered rude and ignorant outside the USMaybe>>34994661>They're rude. And you lack self awareness lmao. Reread your post and look at how presumptuous and smarmy it is. I can almost hear your own cum gargling in your mouth just reading it. Faggot.
>>34994789Found the American.
>>34994488Thats fucking retarded. Youre never going to sound like either one of them. UK accents are even worse because it is not like in america where white trash, californian etc are defined mostly by geography and the groups that came in, they had centuries of separatist and feuding bs and still have it to this day. You would never ever fit.If you mean choosing appropriate grammar spelling etc Yes you should learn it from the source but it doesnt matter which one you pick
>>34994488Us is ghetto
>>34994661You say that because.>>34994488Even among the English, they can’t understand each other. American English is the preserved version of what the English corrupted. Hollywood made American English the world standard.
>>34994488If you don't try you will end with an American accent because most language input from Youtube, films of TV, etc are in American English. If you want to sound educated and European, chose British English.Foreigners don't look at accents, much less discern between them well. Queen's English is no less understandable than American English.>>34995241>UK accentsOP clearly meant RP and not the accent of Liverpool. You'd have to be clearly autistic to bother picking up some regional accent from the UK when you don't live in it.
>>34996087>American English is the preserved version of what the English corrupted. While there is some truth to it. The closest to medieval English is found in Ireland and Scotland. For example, the word "no" has a diphthong in both modern London speech and American, while Wales, Scotland and Ireland all pronounce it correctly with a flat o.
>>34996125Interesting. Is that from a period of isolation, or conquest?
>>34994488>>34994561Come on dude, pharmacy student and you're coming here to hear stuff you already know? The entire UK history and present are classist and hierarchical, they're a fucking kingdom with kings and queens and everybody with a slight bit of authority instantly acts like they're the best thing ever. In the US if you have money you're basically god. I'll take US over UK although personally the native sounding version of both sound gay, I enjoy the European who learned English US accent much more. Like a toned down version of the USA accent without the hot breathe of the over pronounced "HHHHHHHHHAAAAA" or the annoying news presentor intonation with all the attitude that goes into that, or anything from west coast. Or anything from the south. Or anything from the east coast. Yeah
>>34996121>OP clearly meant RPKek that is the most autistic picking you could come up with, it is hardly even a british accent. Very few people talk like that. Are you a TV anchor? No one would be impressed or relate to you.
>>34996660>In the US if you have money you're basically godThey are some of the dumbest most moronic self centered people on the universeAnd ever since they learned that indians exist now anyone with an accent is an indian. I already hated interacting with them before now i just completely ignore them
>>34994488Transatlantic is besthttps://youtu.be/JjLrUyleuP4?si=P_ImKI_-nCXDDI4p&t=5173To the old, your refined. To the young your dominant in a way they cannot place. Your clean, clear and precise.
>>35001596>Very few people talk like thatUnless OP is living in the UK, that is the British English.
>>34996087>Even among the English, they can’t understand each other.Everybody understands RP.
>>34994488If it were an option, I'd suggest trying to sound Irish. Everyone likes the Irish.Within the UK a perfect RP accent can sound "posh" to many ears. But Americans love an English accent. And, internationally, I think people hate Americans a lot more than they hate the British. So I would go for British RP.
>>35002242Which kind of Irish? The Ulster accent is different than the Dublin accent, which is again different from what you'd find in Munster.
>>34994651Americans are considered ignorant and sometimes rude, but their reputation is not nearly as bad as>Chinese>British>Australians>Russians>Middle Easterners
>>35002418Gotta be the classic Ulster accent.
>>34994488You don't say what your native language is. In many cases I think American English is easier to learn to speak than British English. There are an awful lot more distinct vowel sounds in British English, for example. In Italian there are only 7 distinct vowels; depending on the dialect, in UK English there can be as many as 18 or 19, which can be difficult for speakers of some languages to tell apart. If you're a native Spanish speaker, for example, the difference between "rich" and "reach" can be difficult to even hear, let alone pronounce. Americans don't go in for short vowels to nearly the same extent that we do: in many US accents, there's no difference in sound between "cot" and "caught", but they're completely different sounds in the UK.
>>35002418Well, Irish from Ireland, not from Northern Ireland, obviously. People like the Irish; no one likes anyone from Belfast or Derry. So long as you're obviously from *Ireland* it doesn't matter too much where. But if you want me to pick one, County Sligo is nice.
