>spend 3 years writing a novel
>poor planning resulted in so many plot holes it would have been easier to rewrite from scratch then to fix it
>ended up so defeated had a mental breakdown, deleted it all, and tried to an hero

that was 5 years ago. Since then I've had to give up on prose writing entirely becuase every time I try I have a panic attack. I've tried to work on projects related to game design instead but burn myself out agonizing over the tiniest and most insiginificant details. Im terrified of making even the slightest mistake, becuse I know that if I do something wrong, fixing it will take at least twice as long as fucking up did in the first place. I've had shrinks try and tell me to power through, but powering through is how I ended up like this, and every time I build up enough momentum to do it I relive my worst memories all over again

You can't build a tower if you destroy it every 5 seconds. I'd start with a micro experiment. Write a short story without thinking, don't even grammar check that sucker. Throw it to some shithole like watpad under an alias and forget it exists. Realize that it people think is stinks it literally has no negative repercussions. You can write and post as much as you want without anyone giving a shit.
>Once upon a time,
>I decided to waste away at a computer screen
>Then I saw Mr. Pepe. I decided frog posting was gay,
>I called out, "Ay Pepe, tough day?"
>He ree'd
>That's all he could say
>I was killed instantly by a metro train flying at mach Jesus into my room
>The End
What'd you think of my story OP?
Oh wait, I don't give a shit.

Oh dear GOD a wild hateful reviewer1!! Whatever shall I do?
Surely better to end it all and never post to 4 channel again. My life is ruined.
Oh wait, I don't give a shit.
Suck an egg, you swarthy cad.

See how easy it is to not care?
You can post whatever you want.
You could feel distraught at my reply, or you could just not care about the opinion of a rando on 4channel. Go post a scary story to /x/, be cringe, have a good time man.

whatever you first release is gonna be shit. theres people that have posted 200 ai written stories in the time youve fucked around and they dont give a fuck. Look up any author and they have shit stories. You can update it on Amazon later if you really want.
I like the Stephen King method to editing. Put your story away for months and come back to it and edit it. Remove the shit and fill the plot holes.
Even Tolkien later edited the hobbit to add more lore to the ring bit so it flowed better with lord of the rings.
You already did the hard part of shitting it out and now you just need to edit it so to find the diamond in the rough

it sounds like it's still too raw and you're not ready, and that's okay
you can still harbour the ideas for the novel - which I'm sure are burned into your brain by now - and you can think how you'd adjust your process based on your previous mistakes, and, when the itch to write invariably creeps in again, you'll be in a much better position than your previous incarnation

the point is you're not a good writer yet; even if your prose is excellent, what you're not good at is actually writing and finishing a story - of course you were going to fail: you're a novice
but each time the novice fails, it presents an opportunity for him or her to improve
the work of a novice who isn't a good writer yet simply doesn't have to be perfect, and isn't realistically ever going to be so: prosaically excellent; clever ideas; witty, and thoughtful dialogue; it's somehow... exquisitely sesquipedalian but in a restrained way, like where you just know the writer has to masque his brooding genius so as not to alienate the reader - great, that's brilliant, but your work is still naturally going to be trite and clumsy and need rewrites, and you should probably incorporate that fact of life into your future process
it just seems like you're trying to get is from ought

>my process doesn't work
then change it
>no
???
