Anyone working on their anxious attachment had any medication work for them? I just got off lexapro, which was fine but didn't help much in the way of anxiety. I have been in therapy for 5 years and while I've come a long way, it seems no matter how much work I do once somebody I'm seeing starts to give me the silent treatment, I regress and go back to my old ways. I'm already taking propranolol which helps a lot with body anxiety but I still feel anxiety in my brain which then makes me act retarded. I've done some reading and I'm thinking of getting on either buspar or guanfacine, curious to know if any anons here have experience with either of those and were in a similar situation to me.

I know this isn't an answer for your question but you do realise
>my brain which then makes me act retarded
you are supposed to force yourself to not act retarded and the meds are there to make it a bit easier but they won't do the work for you?

Exactly. I just want a medication that will help me progress further than therapy alone can as evidently I've been stuck in the same spot for five years. For example, propranolol helped me overcome a lot of my social anxiety by allowing me to get into situations that I would have avoided before, teaching me that there's nothing to be scared of. If I stopped taking beta blockers, I'd still inherently be a less anxious person than I was before I started.

anon i would say the problem might be the people who you are choosing to date. there are genuinely people out there that don't ghost you or give you the silent treatment. you don't have to internalize that and medicate yourself to deal with shit partners.

T- someone who left a situation like this and feels loads better

Thanks anon, it's hard to tell sometimes, I have so little experience with secure people that I don't know what is inherent to me (i.e. I would still act anxiously attached with a secure person or insecure working on themselves), or what is me just having a normal reaction to being treated like shit. What I'm certain is inherent to me is that I am attracted to them, and probably vice versa. The only thing that's become better with therapy is spotting the warning signs and leaving earlier when I start being mistreated, but the agony when they start to play games never seems to improve and I start acting irrationally same as always.

Bump, I've researched all day and I'm leaning towards Guanfacine but I'm not sure how willing my doctor will be to prescribe it. Any other drugs I might be missing please do share. I think clonidine would be easier to get but I'm not sure if it's as good as guanfacine.

Final bump, earliest possible appointment I could book is actually two weeks away which kinda sucks
