This coming summer (2027) I will be going on a 3 and a half month hitchhiking trip from Lisbon, Portugal to Istanbul, Turkey. I am considering doing some trainhopping in Eastern Europe, but for the most part I am unsure. Any advice in regards to train hopping in general? Should I even consider it at all?

For some background:
> 19y/o male
> Some experience doing small trips in Europe, never trainhopped before
> EU Citizen (Austrian)

Ich komme aus den USA und habe vor Kurzem die österreichische Staatsbürgerschaft erhalten; im Rahmen dieser Reise werde ich zunächst in Lissabon, Portugal, starten. Ich verstehe nicht ganz, was du mit „Gebirgsbewohner“ meinst.
