ITT: all things adhd, share your experiences, ask questions, etc.

recently started a new anti depressant for my dysthymia, which is very likely related to my adhd. anyway, the first few times it would make me tired but i dont notice it anymore, what i did notice however is that i feel sort of normal during social situations, less awkward and anxious. so that's good.

>ask questions
For someone in L O N D O N, where is the best place to go to get titrated for ADHD medication? Genuinely asking for a friend: they were diagnosed many months ago, but then put on what seems like an indefinite waiting list to get any actual medication. Where else could they ask to be referred to?
>>
People have said to me that doubting my own ADHD is part of the ADHD. I voluntarily got myself diagnosed and it was overwhelmingly confirmed I have it and had it my entire life. But I can't shake the feeling that the entire diagnosis is bullshit. I'm starting to think that it's not even a disorder at all, not in the physical sense but rather it's a consequence of social constraints that were put on me. I was a energetic talkative and active child, the truth of the matter is it's inhuman to force a kid to sit down for 6-7 hours to stare at dead words on a page. Just because I defied it often and insisted on exercise in a classroom I'm somehow 'disordered'? Give me a fucking break. I was able to lead my life fine without the academic pipeline. Got my wife and kids, modest living nothing rich but I'm fulfilled now. If my kid shows 'signs' of adhd I'm telling the teachers and doctors to fuck themselves if they try to pin the stupid label on them

It is reasonable to regard ADHD as a matter of natural human variation rather than as a pathology. But you are entirely wrong to think that all children have the same problems concentrating that you did. Most can handle it just fine.
>>

same thing happened to me. i suspected adhd for more than 10 years and never got diagnosed. i'm in my 30s now and only got a diagnosis recently. after the diagnosis i kept questioning wether it was actually true. i did notice some things they were asking for during the test, that i answered wrong, as in, they are signs for adhd but i see myself differently and only after the test i was more aware of the way i behave. and also when i look back at my childhood, the stuff i remember and others say about me, it's pretty clear i had it. it does change with age which can be confusing, and i guess you also find ways to deal with aspects of it.

also what >>35017780 is saying. it's not a disorder in that sense. it's more like a variation of human behavior and when you look at some of the things that make up adhd it's clear that there are uses for that, just not in regular society often times, which for example does force you to sit down and be still. i'm someone who often notices details that other people arent aware of and my thoughts can jump from topic to topic and connect things that arent necessarily related. i am not saying it's a super power. just that there are some pecularities that arent as common with other people. i got diagnosed because i do struggle with some stuff, e.g. emotional dysregulation. other people often lose things, which is something that doesnt happen to me that often. there is no definitive version of adhd and it can be very different from person to person.

also what really pissed me off after my diagnosis where some friends telling me "but doesnt everyone have signs of adhd?". yeah a lot of the stuff is pretty normal, but it's the degrees to which it affects you. in case it ever turns out i dont have adhd, at least i took a step towards trying to get my shit together and be more aware of who i am and how i deal with myself. the label itself is pretty irrelevant

the most performative of diagnosis, perfect entry for the board. well done, op (read faggot)

I hate adhd fags. You act like your anxiety is my problem when I couldn't give a fuck less. Find a real mental illness
>>
>>35017849
nice buzzwords haha
>>
>>35017853
Yeah what's a real mental illness? Do you have the real legitimate one, your sperg majesty?
>>
>>35017857
I don't know, ocd seems pretty bad to live with. Actual schizophrenia, assburgers, severe autism, things like that.
>>
>>35017881
OCD isn't real. It's just someone with nothing better to do than just pick at their own thoughts. Schizophrenia? That's just people who pretend to see ghosts for attention. Aspergers and autism is just people who can't communicate correctly because they're stubborn and self centered. See how easy it is to downplay any mental disorder?
>>
>>35017883
Actually I think they're fair assessments. Mental illness isn't a shield from cynicism or skepticism.
>>
>>35017883
That's literally what autism is. Bullying cured most of these play-pretend illnesses.
>>
>>35017884
There's being a cynical skeptic and the there's being a prick. The anon's post was framed in a bitch way: "I hate you adhd fags you always blah blah" saying we make shit his problem but he comes in the thread to throw his problems at us lol
>>
>>35017886
Bring back bullying then and we'll see what comes about, it's usually the adhds who do the bullying
>>
>>35017883
Potato image but fuck it. Neuroscience has actually successfully identified a physical difference between an NT brain and an ND brain. Socialization absolutely is required to help kids learn to cope with how they are, but they are literally wired differently.
>>
>>35018040
>Autism: Studies on children and adolescents show that autistic brains experience less synaptic pruning. One landmark study found that neurotypical brains prune about 50% of their childhood synapses by late adolescence, whereas autistic brains only prune about 16%, leaving behind a higher density of local connections. This "hyper-connectivity" is often linked to intense sensory processing and deep focus. (Note: Some recent studies on living autistic adults suggest this density may shift or look different later in life).

>ADHD: Research shows that ADHD brains also experience alterations in synaptic pruning and neural density, but the trajectory is often characterized by delayed maturation or different regional thickening rather than a uniform "middle ground" between autism and neurotypicals.

>Neurotypicals: The neurotypical brain follows the standard, societally baseline rate of pruning, refining its pathways to create highly efficient long-range communication networks.

So autists keep their child brain, and adhds can't make their mind up whether they want to keep some or all of the juvenile synapses, and normies just prune everything to become gossips who talk a lot
>>
>>35018054
It's not so much a child brain as it is just EVERYTHING being wired together. One of the most common symptoms of autism is extra sensitivity to light, sound, and touch, and you will notice if you ever listen to two NDs vibing and having a conversation that they can bounce around to dozens of different topics in the span of minutes.

Never, EVER take a fucking second shift (2-10pm, or similar) job. You know you have time blindness/management problems. The ONLY work schedule for most of us has to be: Wake up unreasonably early, MAYBE workout before work, get off work while the sun is still out, go to gym (if you didn't in the morning) after work WITHOUT stopping at home, do all errands BEFORE going home, then you can finally go home.
>>
>>35018239
Ideally I wouldn't like to work at all, at least not in the modern sense. I want to go and do an act of labour whenever I feel like it and get paid cash in hand. I want to only work when money is necessary. I fucking hate that we're locked into a stupid schedule and routine, like a rat on a wheel.
>>
>>35018261
at least try to find something that you enjoy doing. in my current job, i like my coworkers and the work itself isnt too bad most of the time.
>>
>get meds
>start to get better
>lose meds
I can't do this anymore.
>>
>>35018267
I did find something I'm currently still working it. First job I woke up excited for each day. That all went to shit months in, when the employers began losing their patience with me despite the fact I told them what I struggle with. I don't mind that I make mistakes or criticism or correction, but noticing their attitude switch up from amicable and courteous and understanding at the start when they employed me to annoyed, impatient and cold really pisses me off and it's starting to feel like an act of self betrayal working for them.

It's over. Lifetime of poverty guaranteed.

>>35018536
True. Adhds if they're lucky will maintain a working class life, otherwise they're destined to be the smelly alcoholic drug addicted deadbeat living in a run down apartment or on the streets. Meanwhile Mr. Fancy Autist gets rewarded for being a cog in a machine and they live for schedules and routines and end up rich as fuck because they obsessed about perfect MAXXing their GPA.
>>

>Meanwhile Mr. Fancy Autist gets rewarded for being a cog in a machine and they live for schedules and routines and end up rich as fuck because they obsessed about perfect MAXXing their GPA.
That's only a small subset of autists, most of us end up as NEETs. Even the autists that can work eventually crash and burn out from masking and sensory demands or get shit from neurotypicals in the form of work drama. I had a 3.8 GPA at the end of high school and I still ended up becoming a NEET after dropping out of college because I couldn't decide what I wanted to do in life and then the pandemic happened.
>>
>>35019123
You're right. I generalized a bit too hard, muh Addy haddy disorder makes me think in all or nothing fallacies often. "Either all autists are X/Y/Z or none of them are" that sort of mental sinkhole yknow. My apologies
>>
anyone got diagnosed with AuDHD? what's it like? i suspect it but the autism self tests, point more towards me not having autism, but then there is also a thing where ADHD cancels out the symptons of autism

This thought process is called "you're a retarded goy"

you are miserable lol

>Mr. Fancy Autist gets rewarded for being a cog in a machine
You still need to get along with the other cogs, and it never stops being a social machine.
If you can mask well enough or if your output is high-value enough, most people won't care. If you can't fake being a normie or don't create anything worthwhile, get used to hearing you're a poor culture fit.
>>
>>35019977
So autists are Bane from Batman? Nobody cared who he was until he put on the mask?
>>
>>35020104
Pretty much. If you're autistic everyone hates you for either being too open and over-sharing or for being too aloof and not sharing enough.
>>
>>35020118
Oh. Well from my adhd perspective that's funny because that's not why normies are mad at autists from my outsider PoV. I see normies and adhds overshare and/or be aloof and never get any trouble. I think the autist gets shit on because of voice tone. Autists speak in a very cold and blunt tone of voice that can send off the wrong social signals by mistake and people get pissed
