I'm a newly turned 22 y/o guy and last year I moved out of a dysfunctional environment that stunted my development. I estimate that I'm ~5 years behind others my age (people disagree with me on this but I'm confident in it). I'm finally in a position to resume proper development but I have unaddressed baggage that I suspect is hindering my better judgement. To give an example, I've been thinking about what steps I should take in regards to my career path. I've humored the idea of enrolling in college courses, but I'm more so enticed by the idea of "party culture" than actually gaining a worthy skillset. This is one of my unaddressed issues; I've always been undersocialized so I'm now overcompensating by trying to insert myself in an environment where the possibility of casual sex and partying becomes more accessible. So even though college may not be optimal, I'm still drawn to it for reasons pertaining to my arrested development. I'm operating within this suboptimal mental state and it may come back to bite me in the future. TLDR; I'm 22 and want to begin cultivating a fruitful career, but I'm being influenced by my desire to have fun and socialize with others, which is an experience that was robbed from me during adolescence. This could perhaps lead me down the wrong path. I'm unsure how to navigate early adulthood while juggling past traumas and the need to become a productive member of society. I also fear that I'll never be allowed to have fun given the indifferent passage of time and the impending need for stability that comes with it.

anon, you wonderfully worded out my situation. Sadly I'm stuck in the same position, but I'm still 20, but that is also too late
>>35022635Yeah dude it's a tough spot to be in. I don't think you're too late, I'd kill to be 20 again given what I know now. Good luck

>>35019690I regret not finding genuine love during college. I don't regret getting drunk out of my ass and dealing with annoying people I never want to hang out with. Be social but don't go to parties, get drunk, etc.
