Do i need a credit card? I'm 30 and never had one always just had a debit card
>>
It depends on the location and how credit rating works, but in general it is better to have a credit card rather than use a debit card provided you have enough financial sense to not overspend and pay it off.

>unlike a debit card you are not even committing your money at the time of purchase so it's a lot easier to get it back in case of fraud.
>small amount of your money back just from using it instead of a debit card (cashback)
>using credit and paying it back reliably can help you get better terms on big loans/mortgage

some anons were saying in Australia getting one at all fucks up your financial rating though, but in general it is better to have and use as long as you not spending more than you can actually afford.

you can also put money for a credit card bill into an easy access interest account before paying it off as another form of cashback
>>

I get lots of free shit with mine and have paid $0 in interest since I pay it off as soon as I use it. It's definitely worth it.
>>
As long as you use it responsibly there is no downside. I have racked up significant amounts of airmiles over the years using a card linked to an airline loyalty program.
>>

It can be useful but only if you are careful with it and know what benefit it brings to you specifically.
USA style credit rating is a trap.
>>
The business model relies on people thinking they're more responsible than they actually are. If you fuck up, you're dooming yourself to racking up thousands in debt at very very high interest rates, and the credit card companies are only happy to give you more rope. Giving a credit card to someone in their 20s is dooming them, but by 30, you should know better.

What kind of free shit. What card do you have?
>>
>>35019961
I have one through Fifth Third. I mostly spend my points on food gift cards but there's also shit like exercise equipment or tickets to amusement parks in the points shop.

Credit system in the US is retarded.
Think about how you use your debit card. The money is there to be paid off immediately.

Credit card should be used the same way. Ever dollar you spend on it should be accounted for in your checking.

Always pay statement balance.

You will never accrue interest charges. You can get cards with no annual fees and pay $0 for the privilege of its use.

You get 1 to 5% cashback on all your spending. If it gets stolen you never are at risk of waiting on funds from checking or savings while fraud is disputed. You can get extended warranties just by using the card.

It helps your credit score the more cards and money you have extended to you.

I legitimately get a new card every 6 months. I do the $200 to $250 welcome bonus, no annual fee ones. I have $150,000 of credit extended to me across 14 cards. I use maybe $3k at any given time and it's paid on full always.

My credit score is like 830.

It's all gay and bullshit but it's how the game is played.

How good/bad is your credit?
The easy answer is to get one and throw your subscriptions on it and nothing else to familiarize yourself with the process of paying it every month along with any fees or interest.
>>
>>35020035
Do you do it w different bank companies for every card or is it all w one bank?
>>
My credit card is literally just giving me free money in cash back while also providing a layer of security. As well as delaying payment for a few weeks which itself has a very small monetary value.

Credit card companies are the devil though I dont disagree on that.
>>
>>35019869
Just get one. It takes seconds to sign up and then they mail you the card. I'm sure your bank offers them to you on a regular basis. Build your credit and get cash back, pay off the full balance every month.
>>
>>35019958
The model includes charging merchants a great percentage. When someone uses a card, the seller profits less. Which is generally worth it over employees pocketing cash on the reg.
>>
>>35020089
Different banks. No incentive structure to be at one bank for everything. You can take advantage of more promos that way.
>>
>>35019869
There's zero benefits of having a credit card in Europe. I don't get any cash back or some shit like that. Credit card is just making you pay attention to paying bills on time else you'll end up paying more. Extra hassle
>>
>>35019869
>You use a debit card at 31 years old?
What's supposed to be the problem with this?
>>
>>35019958
It's not that hard to not fuck up. I barely use my credit card, but i don't get rewards. I should probably get one that has rewards and a higher limit. I just hate the concept of having to owe money.
>>
>>35020527
he literally explained the problem in the next post
fix your attention span
>>
>>35019869
You know why you get cashback?

They are tracking your spending habits and selling it.

Oh, and companies now dymamically charge you different prices based on how much their algorithms tell them to milk you for.

>debt is le good
no
>>
>>35020664
retard
>>
>>35019869
>Cash back deals and rewards
Consoomer jargon. You win nothing but debt.
>>
>>35020674
explain in detail how i'm wrong
>>
>>35022988
You don't get into debt if you pay the card off monthly before the interest is applied. You buy an item at cost using the credit card, build credit score, and pay it off for the exact same price. You're fine as long as you never buy something when you don't have the money to immediately pay it off.
>>
Functional countries use debit cards (Russia, China, all of Gayrope).
Amerimutts will fall for most retarded scams and defend them to death.
>>
>>35019869
The simple answer is No.
I always use debit or cash. Unless you want to build credit score rating for a house or car, it's safer to stay without one, especially if you know you're bad with money.
>>
Absolutely fine as long as you pay it off every month. My credit card used to have 2% cashback on online orders which earned me 500 usd I wouldn't have had with a debit card.
It is also much more streamlined when disputing online orders. Sometimes they didn't even bother with opening a dispute with the vendor and just credited me the $35 because the amount was so small.
>>
>>35019869
No. They are jewish tricks.
>>
>>35020467
What are you talking about? I get different kinds of bonuses on the three credit cards I have in Europe.
