My dream was to get into a game company, make game dev friends and create an indie studio full time making videogames. I've been on this path for 5 years now. Learned game engines, animation, code, design. I've added more projects to my portfolio over the years. I've had NO success in game dev interviews. I shifted my roles to other things like level designer, game tester, tool programmer. I have no luck in anything. I went to conferences, network events, hung out with developers and anything. Got contacts for referalls. Still I couldn't get hired. Also the developers I meet are either AAA studio hires that don't really want to hang out with me or other solo developers who have their own thing going on and have no need for anyone joining them. I hate doing regular software IT work and I got fired twice over the last 2 years. I'm losing hope and feeling more stuck because I'm also approaching my 30's. I don't feel like telling these to my friends anymore as nobody understands it around me since they just go to their jobs and live a normie life without any real goals.
