I'll keep it brief.I have a flareup of a chronic health problem that makes my life uncomfortable as fuck and makes me depressed.I've been going to a doctor who has been helpful. After a while, I've improved a great deal, but not sufficiently. However, according to the doctor, I'm "all fine" and "over sensitive due to what I've been through".I was anxious at the appointment and left without really understanding what he meant. If he means I am literally fine and imagining symptoms, that's bad news because I believed this was the best doctor to help me. I am wondering if he meant that or meant that I am physicially more sensitive due to previous pain, or not fully ok yet and feeling it more due to anxiety, or something.Would you write to him and how should I word it, more or less, to not come across as an "anxious patient" which doctors are autistic about?
>>35025290This is pretty hard to answer without knowing the health issue. If you write it with absolutely no regard to the issue at hand then it’s going to sound like HR criticism and they’ll see it as ultimately not important again.
>>35025295no i was going to adapt whatever im told here, not copy paste it as isbut ok i will tell you, just wanted to keep the op as brief as possiblewhat i have is blepharitis. its an illness that's often not taken seriously / "fake illness", but causes a kind of pain and discomfort that eats at me and ruins my day, so its not easy to find a doctor who takes it seriously and knows details on diagnosing and treating it. you cant just go to a random doctor. this guy does and had been helping so far.
>>35025297>blepharitishm. A preliminary google search didn’t show anybody talking about not being taken seriously. Even on reddit and they’re usually pretty upset about that when it happens. But regardless and to try to actually help, I’d say something like this but it sounds like me so you’d have to change it a lot>Having reflected on our last conversation a little more, I don’t think I was able to properly express how serious this continues to be in the time we had. While I am always willing to accept new perspective and accept that some things may be internal to me, I really am having actual issues that are affecting my life.I’d be happy to make another appointment or even answer some questions through the patient portal to hopefully clarify exactly what’s going on here. I appreciate your time and care; you’ve been the most helpful doctor of found so far. Because of that, it is critical to me that we get to the bottom of this. Let me know what you think would be the best way to discuss.anon
>>35025308Thanks anon I wouldn't copy this as is, but there's some interesting ideas there, such as mentioning he's the most helpful I found so far, and focusing on how symptoms affect my life. The thing is, I kinda already did that. I wrote to him about how I was feeling pretty bad, something along the lines of>we've come a long way and thanks to your treatment I got so much better, but I'm not ok, it is not enoughand he saw me the next day despite a busy agenda. And then at the appointment, he said that clinical signs are all fine and I'm over sensitive (despite saying a few appointments ago that it was pretty bad and I was understating symptoms). He seemed to be sincerely trying to help and prescribed anti inflammatory drops and gave me extra tips.I'm not even sure what "I'm fine but over sensitive" is even supposed to mean though. Could be not literally 100% fine. Could be the over sensitivity is physical and not emotional.
>>35025290>actually going to a doctor in 2026Lmao
>>35025323i mean what am i supposed to doi dont even know how much is from his help vs my body naturally healing, maybe even despite his meds, but, i have to try to get help
>>35025325Figure out your health problems by yourself using internet and AI. You can get any blood and/or DNA test you want and have AI interpret it.
>>35025328AI is even worse....AI is literally a calculation of "what word combination would make a typical answer to this", its not even using common sense or trying to tell the truth, hence "hallucinations"
>>35025290Medicine today is so specialized and compartmentalized that he may merely have meant "You are as good as I can make you, within my specific remit. Any problem that is left is for another specialist to address."In particular, many chronic conditions carry with them a layer of psychological issues. For example, it would be perfectly natural for a chronic illness to lead you into depression - and that depression might have to be treated as a separate issue.
>>35025330You're a year out-of-date, it's way better now. Anyway, that's like saying that Google sucks because it shows spam on the search results. It's a skill issue.
>>35025331I dont want to be "treated for depression" instead of getting better JFL might as well just rope
>>35025290>However, according to the doctor, I'm "all fine" and "over sensitive due to what I've been through".>I am wondering if he meant that or meant that I am physicially more sensitive due to previous pain, or not fully ok yet and feeling it more due to anxiety, or something.I'd say he probably meant exactly what he said, e.g. you are doing fine but being hypervigilant and reacting to even the slightest sensation/change, which is understandable ofc.>makes me depressed. Also feelings of depression often contribute to this, "overeacting" to the slightest twinge and being more sensitive to pain/discomfort despite everything being okay.I've been there, it gets better. Perhaps you could try keeping a journal, it can help seeing that you are improving despite what you might feel and also help to spot if things are really seeming to get worse. When I got 'paranoid' about my health, drawing, walks in the forest (if possible, top-tier exercise) helped to get my mind away and going to local social events/hangout places also got my mind off of my troubles or I could share and ease it that way.
>>35025346This is a possibility I've been also considering.Maybe I should accept he literally just meant that the way it sounded, and reaching out would be useless. In fact, he could be right. I don't know.I've been pretty uncomfortable though, and it was only when not on steroid drops anymore. I don't think it can possibly be psychological. He prescribed me some anti inflammatory drops so I'll just use those, and see if I get better that way, and also see if I'm better by the time I run out of them.>When I got 'paranoid' about my health, drawing, walks in the forest (if possible, top-tier exercise) helped to get my mind away and going to local social events/hangout places also got my mind off of my troubles or I could share and ease it that way.The thing is, when it gets bad, I'm too uncomfortable to enjoy those. It is a real problem.
