>>5061960Bless this thread.
NY rats are getting crazy.
Thank you for restarting the thread. I'm so happy with how many rat lovers there were in the last one.
I work at a restaurant that has rat poison outside. They also sometimes spray some different kind of nasty poison into rat holes.Right now there's a big rat living under the cardboard dumpster. I've been giving him croissants and a water dish.Should I discretely place a zap trap inside the fence around the dumpsters to keep him from going through a slow and agonizing death? I don't know what to do. What do you think?
>>5062314>picthat shit makes me so sad v_v
>Rats need love >Rats need companionship >Rats need free roam time hooman need that too *smooch*
felt bad for 2 fishtank rat babies on craigslist, met up and got them to eventually integrate with my older men, couldn't get a look at the second one's genitals because it was nervous, then i get home and discover she's a girl. I'm thinking it's overtheyre both 4-8 weeks old by my guess and she's looking suspiciously round. hopefully somebody local who breeds is willing to trade me for a boy and won't feed her to snakes, don't know if a spay is possible that young and it would be expensive as shit if they could
>>5062314Can you try to lure him out and relocate him? If you've been placing food, maybe he's getting used to you
>>5062617I've heard that rodents relocated to an unfamiliar area usually don't last long.
>>5062314If they poison the rats and there are still rats, there's a good chance that those rats are immune to the poison. They are basically feeding them.
>>5062314Damn anon that pic. Without the text it's the usual edge lord stuff I move on by but damn!In terms of dealing with wild rats >>>/diy/ has a stupid question thread perfect for this. However, an important tip left out is ensuring there are no sources of food for them, this is the best way to deal with to ensure they aren't around
I am DIS-CHEESED at the lack of rodent posting.
>>5063721i don't wanna repost too much, even though these threads are slow and gritty
you'd think rats would be the ultimate disease resistant lifeform but if the rats subreddit is anything to go by they're about as healthy as an inbred pug
>>5063856doesn't help that most pet rats are from feeder mills and have dogshit genetics
>>5063839>sneaky-plotting yes yes
Local shelter got a bunch of rats... I've been thinking of getting some. If I go there I know I will immediately want to take them home.
>>5063894this rat is responsible for the gravitational orbit of the earth
I've recently gained a desire to get pet rats, but I don't think that I could handle the short lifespans. I haven't had a dog in years because I couldn't handle that, and rats are so much shorter
>>5064002Unless they're a new litter you're taking on a shorter time with them and risk poor ownership / breeding but the shelter should be up front about that otherwise they risk getting them back. If they are from a bad owner etc but you are prepared to be more patient, go for it. I've had a few rescues and while they've taken more work, they have been worth it in the long run. Talk to the shelter and if you feel comfortable with it, enjoy and come here for advice when needed. >>5064218It's a hard one to get used to and did take me a while. Each death sucks but you learn to accept their timescale. I just had a guy pass a little before 3 years old (pic in OP) and while I miss him it was easier to see him go peacefully at a very old age
pretty sure one of my boys has a zymbals gland tumor, it's in the right place and the mass is firma while ago he had a lump that disappeared overnight before i could schedule the vet so maybe it will be like that but probably nothe's barely even one and a half, i was really hoping he would make at least 2 and then die in his sleep or something so i wouldn't have to make the choice to euthanize
>>5064218it's really not for the faint of heart, i'd love to try but i'm also worried about burgeoning vet bills for these short-lived critters
>>5064218Yea same, I started looking around the internet to see if someone succeeded in breeding a long-lived line of rets but haven't found anything. We can have dogs smashed and slammed every which way, and scale-less ball pythons, but not rats that live for 5+ years. Sad.
>>5064469got home after work and he has bloody discharge in his ear canal and is walking like he's drunk. i hope there's an emergency vet open on sundays because i really don't want him to go through when it gets worse. it might be fucked up but I'm praying he goes in his sleep so he doesn't have to go through the pain and stress and i don't have to see him declinethis is my first photo of him i would smash my nuts with a brick over and over again to get him back to healthy
>>5064617>i would smash my nuts with a brick over and over again to get him back to healthyI'm sorry you have to go through this, anon. I know the feeling.
