I love how bunnies look but from my own limited experience I don't think they make amazing pets, I had two when I was a kid but I don't even really remember their names like I do with the cats I had then.
>>
>>5118789
Their names were Jeppers and Pononong
>>
>>5118789
They are little chuds
>>
>>5118753
We're back, /bun/!
>>
>>5118789
It depends on what you want from a pet.
They don't always make for lap pets though some buns may get cuddly with you.
>>
I had a bunny that passed about a year ago.
I considered adopting a new one, but it makes me feel like I am replacing her, besides I threw away the litter box and mats when she passed.
What do?
>>
>>5119444
Unless you intend to get 2, I'd advise against, bunnies need company.
If you intend to get 2, I'd still advise against it, bunnies are a constant source of worries.
>>
>>5119675
wtf man you cant speak ill of bunnies in the bunnies thread
>>
>>5119818
you're the one speaking ill of bunnies for not worrying about their existence enough.

I think I remember the names of all my B-tier pets growing up
>Harriett the painted turtle, born before me
>crinkle the rat also born before me, there's a pic of it sitting on my chest as a baby
>Jesse the guniea pig
>Gene the Gerbil, one of the best animals of my life, second only to Cookie (but spelled with a K bc Mortal Kombat), the best dog I'll ever have
>Tweek and Piper the budgies
>Koopa the Kwik, the snapping turtle. I went away for the summer and no one renembered to feed him :(
>Bathory (Batty) the white rat. A very good rat. She would sit on my shoulder all the time
I'm foggy on the countless C and D tier pets I've had over these 33 years like fish or random lizards and bugs from the yard. We had a mouse named kibble because we found him in the dog food for example.

>>
>>5121967

>>
>>5121967
They hate it too.
>tfw I always thought I was going to hurt my poor bunny when trimming her nails, and she probably was thinking the same
>>
>>5122198
Probably not as much as me. I cant do it alone, he hates it that much, so I get it done during his bi-annual checkups. Every Oct & May. I know youre supposed to do it every month or so but I think it would be unneeded stress.
>>
>>5122198
Depends on the bun. One of my buns I have to do every month, minimum. For whatever reason, my lionhead's nails grow slower (in length) but thicker, so less often.
As my buns got older, it actually got easier to trim their nails. After five years, my lionhead is very easy to trim. First four years sucked though.
My lop's always been a good bun.

I haven't heard of any shelters near here, I know that one of the neighbors has free roaming rabbits in his fenced off garden. Sadly I think there's too many of them around for one person to take care of, on my morning walk I've seen at least 4 of these fat fucks. I assume the top right one is more in line with what a wild rabbit would look like, the others look like snacks for foxes and shit.

>>
Huh I thought rabbits became hares when feralized as some kind of adaptation. Apparently they are entirely different species.
>>
>>5128164
Aside from the appearance bunnies are born blind and bald while hares come out with full sight and fur
>>
>>5128080
Well, fuck.
If you know a vet office of some sort, they may be your second best option. As for how to identify wild bunnies from strays:

Generally, any coat other than the brownish one you see here is tray. The white, cocoa, hazel, sand, black etc. coated bunnies are domestic only, but where it gets spotty are the bunnies bred to *look* wild. Those I have no real expertise in, but what I can say is that the bunny in the bottom right of *this* image is a stray.

And as for hares, they're lankier and have different eyes.
>>
>>5128072
Are you sure it's a stray? It looks just like the other one to me.
Am I racist?

Maybe make sure it's even approachable first.
>>
>>5127929
>>5128072
Make sure first if it's not reported missing from somewhere in your neighbourhood if it's a stray.
It could have escaped from an outdoor enclosure.

I am thinking of getting a bunny. I live in an apartment that will let me get one.

How much space should I dedicate to the bunny if I get it? I was thinking of having a nice hutch connecting out into a ~32” tall playpen that would be about 6 ft by 8 ft?

The bunny would spend most of its time in there minus an hour or so of being freely available to run in my room (very large master bedroom)

Would this be appropriate for a bunny or is it cruel and a bad idea?
>>
>>5129367
Sounds about right
>t. don't own a bnuy
>>
>>5129367
Depends on your continent. Americans think it's fine, western europeans think it's cruel and you need at minimum two bunnies since they're very social, and eastern europeans dont understand what you do with the food.
>>
>>5129367
Sounds good. They're awesome pets. I love mine.

Is the cottontail rabbit starting to go extinct in Wyoming? I kve in a small rural town in the southeastern area of the state and I barely ever see adult rabbits even at dawn/dusk, and I only saw one baby one at the beginning of April. We have a lot of stray cats in town, unfortunately, and we've had little rain, so I fear they might've deemed this town inhospitable. I want any tips possible for rabbitspotting and to get rare footage of a mama rabbit tending her den. I just can't find them, not near the school, not nesr the park, not even in the airport that's a little outta town.

>>
Do rabbits poop everywhere? One of my friends as a kid had a rabbit and I remember there being rabbit poop all over her floor, I don't know if it was the rabbit's fault or just her being a shitty owner.
>>
>>5138734
They just do that.. it's how they normally get their full nutrients in the wild.
>>
>>5138734
They can be toilet trained and they will primarily poop and pee in that specific spot, however they'll still make some stray poops here and there. Not much at all, but it'll be there
>>
>>5138781
>>5138783
is it a lot easier to clean since they make small dry balls of poop?
>>
>>5138792
You can pick them up by hand yes, bunny poop is dry and scentless
The pee is the stinky one, and the poop in their toilet tray will be drenched in it.
>>
>>5138781
Cecotropes are distinctly different from the majority of rabbit poop. They do not eat their normal poop, which is what occasionally gets found outside their litter box (seldom if you are not a shit owner), and you're not going to see cecotropes because they eat it.
If you think you are finding cecotropes often (i.e. poop that is not dry) regularly, it's likely your rabbit has digestive issues due to diet or disease and you need to get that fucking checked out immediately.
>>5138792
If you are not a shit owner, you really shouldn't find much outside their litter box area. I have the fluffiest, longest hair lionhead I've ever seen and even she does not drag poop outside her area much. My short hair bun, even less. If you are not cleaning their litter box regularly, then yes, you will find a lot of shit elsewhere.
>>
>>5138662
One of the few animals that doesn't lose their cuteness in adulthood imo, and not just the dwarves
>>
If your bun does flops and/or binkies is it an official sign that you are a good owner?
