There is nothing in the Permian period that you can point to that looks like a human. In fact, mammals didn't even exist yet so your comparison is total nonsense. However, some of the earliest ancestors of crocodiles still bear a resemblance to their modern counterparts (at least in form, if not size), and if you were to show their silhouettes to the average joe, they would likely say it looks like some sort of croc.
