We all grew up calling it "oranguTANG" right? But now it's "oranguTAN"
Is this some Mandela Effect shit or did they change the official spelling/pronunciation?

i'd like to know where "pongo" comes from because i've never seen anyone outside this board use that term
>>
>>5129182
What is the context?
>>
>>5129184
it's what people here call orangutans. there's literally a pongo general
>>
>>5129192
Pongo was always a dog name because of the dalmatian movie
>>
>>5129182
Its a scientific term for them. Their genus specifically.
>>
>>5129182
It's the scientific name for orangutan. Now what exactly is the origin of the word in that context? that i do not know
>>
>>5129168
The original name is "orang hutan" meaning "man of the forest" or "person of the forest" and if i remember correctly some locals thought they weren't even animals but people that got lost in the jungle and turned into that
