you should give it time-limited exposure to build up its tolerance

Newbie here. I started getting interested in /plants/ a couple months ago, and this is my little cuttings crate. I know nothing, so it's going to be a lot of trial and error and a pinch of internet wisdom.

The censored part is just a Plus Code I added to keep track of the source trees' location.

Let's see if you can identify them all.

I guess I don't know nearly as much as I thought I did. I assume you're well-researched enough to know not to use miracle gro peat, but maybe your peat is contaminated with salt or something. You could try flushing it with distilled water and draining it to clear out anything.

I ended up with more lemon tree seedlings than expected, so I potted them and brought them indoors, then placed them close to a south-facing window (it has evening sun, and a reasonable amount of indirect light the rest of the day).

Is this good enough?
>>
>>5133454
Make sure you have a node, otherwise it won't root.
>>
>>5133732
Just ask ask some AI chatbot since that's where you got that imbecilic picture from
>>
>>5133835
Indirect light indoors essentially amounts to deep shade. Why arent you keeping thel outdoors? They need all the light they can get.
>>
>>5133726
it's mostly a bad idea if you are concerned with mosquitos. dragonfly lifecycles are too long and it's easy for predators to take them out when they emerge from the water. only go for some kind of pond if you really like the idea of having a pond
>>
>>5133885
I already have a lot of them outside. It was either that or discard them. I thought it could be an interesting experiment.

One month later update and they seem to be growing fine. I had a lot of trouble getting the Ginkgo to stand up (It's why I didn't really manage to get it right in the center of the pot) and it seems to growing to the side a lot which I find weird. Putting them up there I honestly thought they would be getting a lot of direct sunlight since two of four walls are mostly just windows but I guess because of the position they're mostly entirely out of it. Which is fine for summer I guess since here it can easily get 39C+ and I doubt that's going to be good for them. They should be good in those pots until next spring I believe as I think their grow rate slows down during summer.

How do you deal with repotting plants in soil that's turned into concrete? I ended up with a bunch of ancient houseplants that've been been potted with no maintenance in 20-30 years. The dirt they're in is rock hard and barely absorbs water. Do I soak the root ball until I can break up this shit or what?
>>
>>5135319
hammer, obviously

Weird no one's pointed it out to you yet but that is absolutely not a Ginkgo tree, just some weed. I've been germinating my own set of Ginkgo's this year, they look totally different. To germinate Ginkgo seeds you need to wrap them in a wet paper towel and store them in a plastic container kept at room temp for like 3 months. As the seed absorbs water it will swell and the halves of the shell will start to separate. The embryo in the seed undergoes a secondary maturation after it's fallen off the tree, that's why it takes a couple months. The first leaves will be fairly big and unmistakably Ginkgo. See pic related.

What the actual fuck do I do about thrips on outdoor plants? They're turning my plants into weird bonsai-esque stunted-but-stretched mutants. I can't believe that there's an insect this perfectly destructive. At least I could manually squash aphids.
>>
>>5135796
Outdoors you can probably use insecticidal soap but longer term it’s probably better to introduce predators. I get them on daylily and iris flowers but they just eat the pollen and don’t change the foliage so I haven’t really tried to remove them outdoors. I assume some other insect eats them as well since the numbers haven’t exploded.
>>
>>

Got the bottle but it says I can only use it a handful of times TOTAL. I'm not feeling good about this. So, I'm gonna use it 6 times, not be able to use it ever again, and then they'll just come back. Maybe I'd be better off shunting my containers near some wild overgrowth and hope that something naturally comes over to eat the thrips.
>>
>>5136556
If the infestation continues it will be found by nature anyway. For a short-term crop this is catastrophic but for perennials you might just spray them with water a bit until predators find them. Or like the other guy said, buy them.
>>
Last year when my echeveria tried flowering it spent forever putting out a really long thick stem that took months before flowers even started developing, and i cut it at the end before bringing it inside before it bloomed
It still has the old stem to this day, still hasn't fully absorbed it or fallen off

This year, it's putting out 2 flower stems that are branching and developing much shorter, and I can actually see petals starting to form, within a couple weeks

Is this a resources thing, as in it's healthier now, or did it learn it has to shove out flowers faster or they'll get cut?

Hey guys. Newbie gardener here. I bought a Home Depot bearss lime. I know some basics about citrus and how to care for it, but I'm still scared I'm gonna kill this guy. I found a mutant dogwood. Normally these plants have 4 white bracts (which are actually leaves that have taken on the role of petals) and a ring of leaves underneath. This one had 6 bracts and no leaves. Somehow all the leaves have turned into bracts.

New growth point on the right! I was worried this leucophylla was just hanging on by a thread, since I'm growing it pretty far out of its range and the growing season is shorter up north but if it has enough energy to expand the rhizome like that its a good sign.

In other news, I've been gradually collecting the pumice pebbles that are on top of the moss and lifting up a sheet of sphag to put them underneath but its a losing battle until the moss gets thicker and comes in more fully.
