The neighborhood cat passed suddenly... Apparently he went to take a nap this morning and just never woke up. I saw him last night and he was rambunctious as always. I'm not sure what could have caused him to pass, but him passing so suddenly is so upsetting.Rest in peace, bubs.
>>5136419Cats tend to have weak hearts. Heart attacks aren't that uncommon with them.
>>5136427I wonder if it was that, since my neighbor didn't think he was poisoned. He was so young too, definitely not older than 5. Poor darling...
My guy likes to knead around while holding his rat toy in his mouth and meowing. He does it whenever I leave his object impermanence
If you have a kitten please start getting them used to walks on harnesses!! Not for any humane reason, I just think it's cute
>>5136521Separation anxiety?
>>5136527I had a cat once, I was moving across the country and didn't have any choice but to get him a harness and leash since I was going to take him on the plane with me. I decided I would get him used to the thing before zero day. He was fine with the harness (even though it made him look like a fat guy wearing a baby-t). The minute I attached the leash to the harness his consciousness left his body and he became 18lbs of inert cat matter that refused to move. I figured if I dragged him a little he'd get the picture and go along for the ride. He did not, like channeling ghandi and his passive resistance the little furball let me drag him across the kitchen floor, outside onto the deck, across the deck, and into the grass.
Buddha cat
>>5136566>enlightenment? Abandoning worldly attachments? Rising above desire?>Nah nigga, git paid, acquire crunchies Truly the wisest of animals.
I saw a couple at my pet store today walking their cat around with them on a leash. I think they were trying to do that "take the cat to busy places when they're young to socialize them" thing so it grows up friendly and used to people, but I think their cat was too old for it and it was just scared the entire time and not having any of it. I felt a little bad for the cat but it was kind of funny watching it try to hide around the store as they were walking around.
I got an eviction warning for feeding the (fixed) stray cats. The slumlords are claiming I'm damaging their property. Life sucks.
>>5136615If I take my cat lut on a leash for too long she wants to live outside and gets incredibly sassy and violent when I inevitably have to pick her up and walk her back inside. Often times she gets violent. I can pick her up and do whatever when she is inside no worries, but once she gets a taste of freedom she goes insane. Haven't taken her out in a while because of it. :(
>>5136615I'm thinking about buying a harness to take my cat for walks. But they're an adult and they're also a scardey cat. Would they adapt or would it be constant torture for them? My biggest fear is walking into someone walking their dog
>>5136712Put the harness on them and see if they move around normally after an hour or so. Then you can add leash. See how they react to gentle tugging on the leash. Then you can bring them outside and see if they just freeze or actually wander about.
>>5136541Nah don't think so. He'll even be right in front of the bathroom and see me enter it, keeping the door opened, and he'll still go get his rat (always the same toy too).
>>5136334this little 3 month old turd showed up all of a sudden out of the blue when i was enjoying sitting on my porch taking in some sun, strolled up to me then sat in my lap, licked my hands, my arms, and then laid upside down and took a nap then proceeded to follow me all over my property even while i was mowing my grass. i cant get away from him. got him his shots and bringing him inside never had a cat before. eh a cool guy and doesn't afraid of anything
>>5136699???I do that all the time. There's 4 that live in my alleyway and I give them fish. What is their argument for damaging the property?
>>5136779They claw the window screens.
>>5136781damn, well I guess that is property damage. It's a shame though, could have fed them a block away or something. Landlords should just tell you to stop though, immediate eviction is nuts. I've dealt with slumlords my whole life, finally got a chill place with a Chinese lady landlord who's super nice a few months ago, first time ever where my landlord doesn't seem like a huge piece of shit
>>5136334Unequivocally based and true OP
I'm going to have to fly with my old cat INA. few months. I'm scared she'll howl the entire way and I'm worried about sedation because she's 15. what do I do to make it easier for her?
>>5136762Cat distribution system at work
>>5136805I'd suggest taking her on a car ride to see how she handles long trips beforehand. I guess a plane ride would be pretty different but it'll still give you an idea of what she'll be like.My old bastard howls nonstop for like 15 minutes when I get him in the car but eventually he gives up and just stays quiet for the rest of the trip.
>>5136762Cute story. Hope you two have a good time together.
>>5136805>I'm scared she'll howl the entire way She will>and I'm worried about sedation because she's 15Don't worry about it, I had to fly with my cat and I asked my vet if there was a kitty-cat xanex I could give him, an the vet told me to just get some children's benedryl. Call them to double check the dosage if you don't feel comfortable doing the body weight conversion yourself. As long as there's no asprin in the pill its perfectly safe and it will just conk them out the same way it does to you or me.
>>5136344I want a desk cat
>>5137297me too...
Anyone else's cats insist on drinking water from the sink? He drinks out of his bowl occasionally, but he will NOT drink out of those little cat drinking fountains, we tried two different models. He absolutely loves drinking tap water straight from the faucet though. Even on our sinks that are less convenient to stand on like picrel lol, silly kitty.
>>5137310>he will NOT drink out of those little cat drinking fountainsThere are different kinds of cat fountains, and depending on the cat some prefer one style over another. Water out of the tap is also just cooler and fresher. Seriously though, a cat that figures out of faucets work is a nightmare, I had one cat who would do it and for 15 years I'd be woken up in the middle of the night to a dripping or squealing faucet.
>>5137297Depends on the desk cat. Mine insists on sleeping directly on my keyboard, forcing me to turning it off and typing with the On-Screen Keyboard instead.
My kitty is coughing a lot and has been spending most of her time under a table the past coupe of days. She seems to be interested in getting pet on when ever I go check on her, but every once in a while she'll gone on a coughing fit. She was eat and drinking water earlier yesterday. Should I take her to the vet or just wait it out?
I think cats are stupid.
>>5137472Sneezing or actually coughing? if cough it's worth a check at the vet.
>>5137297The only time my cat climbed onto my desk was when he both had an easy way to get there without jumping, and he had enough space he could walk around.

>>5136762a week ago, this crazy mofo showed up in my backyard. I waited a day to see if mama showed up but she never did. So i took him to the vet, got him his shots and flea medicine(he was pretty infested), and now I have a cat again. Haven't had one since 2015, but can honestly say this little dood has brought a smile to my face every day since. I thought he was going to take a while to warm up to me being a stray, but after only two days he is all over me, taking naps on my lap, headbuttin me, and just being super affectionate in general. So much so he sleeps with me now, where as the first two days he slept under the bed. I got him a little cat bed to put on my desk and he just hangs out with me all day as I do my work. I named him Gio.
>>5137511yeah i only like pitch black midnight coats. none of this dark brown nonsense that only exposes itself in bright light
>>5137639Why did you wait so long?
>>5137647what do you mean? I saw him one night and waited till next morning to see if momma cat came back, she didn't. so that day i took him to the vet and he's been living with me since. My mistake if I gave you the wrong impression.

This might be a silly question, but how often do cats start fights with foxes? I've seen this dude chill maybe like 50 meters away from a fox.

Lost my soul cat two months ago. Was one of the hardest things I've ever experienced in my life. He was the only reason I didn't kill myself for six years. Caved in shortly after and adopted two kittens. Haven't gotten around to posting them yet, but have some kitten photos, /kot/.
I love these two so much bros

>>5138219Sorry for your loss. Put my cat down recently, and am not in a position to get a new pet right now. Makes me sad.
I have spent over 1500$ at the vet in two months trying to figure out my cat's runny diarrhea and weight loss. It briefly firmed up but went right back. I don't know how much more I can take financially. I hate having to make decisions based on money but at some point I'm going to have to just let it happen.
>Coworker has to find a new home for his daughter's cat because they've moved to a new apartment that can't keep animals.>Was going to take it to the pound, decided I'd take it in instead so they don't put it down if they can't find a home.>Have cat for seven months, sleeping on the end of my bed, chasing butterflies in the bushes, etc.>Get a text last weekend from the daughter saying they just moved to a different apartment and can now take the cat back.I can't deny someone their cat, but I'm really struggling to give it back. The only thing that convinces me to do so is that I'm assuming she's just going to get tired of the cat at some point and give it back anyway.
>>5138398What do they eat? If it's wet food, try adding a little bit of raw pumpkin puree (like half a teaspoon mixed with 5 oz can) - make sure it isnt pumpkin pie filling. The pumpkin can help firm up their poop

When is it the right time to put down a cat? Why should humans be the one to make the decision? The clearest sign that a cat is ready to pass on is when it decides that itself (either through instincts of it's own agency) by no longer eating or going off to die someplace secluded. Is it an evil act to put it down before then or one of love?
>>5138451Can you go into more detail? Age, circumstances?
>>5138561>When is it the right time to put down a cat? When they no longer have any quality of life. There's a number of things you can consider like if they can go to the bathroom without soiling themselves, if they have any enjoyment in eating, are they in constant pain, etc.>Why should humans be the one to make the decision?Because they are a pet. They wouldnt exist without humans, and generally if a human is deciding to end the cat's life it is because they have agreed to care for the cat and have its well-being be their responsibility, or they are in a position of culling unwanted and harmful population.
I'm thinking about taking her to the vet next week (or sooner if she shows any signs of discomfort) but someone here might have some info on this.Would dehydration cause a cat's usually high-pitched meows to turn kinda raspy or am I looking at something else like an infection or just the cat equivalent of puberty (she's 2)?So far she's eating and drinking as usual but the heat wave did hit her particularly hard, her coat is quite a bit thicker than my other cats.
>>5138398My cat's like this minus the weight loss. He's probably allergic to something in his diet and his gut biome is fucked because of it so just get him an equivalent to [pic related] and give him some probiotics. If you're lucky his shits will firm up quite a bit within a month or so.
>>5138607>she's 2She's been an adult for like a year. Get her in the bathroom and let sleep in the tub. It tends to be fresher than other places in your home.

>>5138679She was already spending most of her time in the coolest place in the house. Temp has gone down, I've been coaxing her into drinking more water and her voice is doing a little better so it probably was dehydration but I'll keep an eye on her just in case.

>>5138814Stop putting clean laundry where he can get it. You might need an additional litter box. And when you change the litter do you ever scrub out the litter box itself? Just get some bleach, a scrub brush, and some dish soap and clean the little box once a week. Sometimes the piss and shit smell sticks to the tub and the cat doesn't like it. You could also try different kinds of litter. Also wash your clothes with a little bit of vinegar and lemon juice, if the cat can still smell its previous bathroom adventures on the clothes or the basket (even slightly) its going to reinforce that it is an acceptable place to poop. The unfortunate truth is sometimes with pets you have to toddler proof things, I just cope with the fact that I can never have any component with the thin wire because apparently that shit is cat spaghetti.

I finally had to make the end-of-life appointment for my 14-year old boy. He's been sick with kidney disease for a couple years now and finally stopped eating last night. I couldn't even get him to take any treats this morning. My wife and I have had him since we were just dating. He's been there for two apartments, two houses, two dogs, and a cross-country move. I'll miss him and it will be weird not having him around, but letting him starve to death would be selfish ane cruel to just have a few more days with him.Pic is from just a few months ago when he was still doing pretty good
>>5139073It's a dick move, but as long as it's just a few minutes it's not that bad. You're definitely spiritually Chinese.
>>5139117Hope he has a peaceful end. RIP little dude.

>>5139150Landlord.
>>5139151Most landlords are nominally against pets, but as long as the animal doesn't bother anyone you can get away with it.
>>5139152True, but rent would go up if I had one. Can't really manage it sadly.
>>5139153I never paid pet rent when I was renting. The only people from the apartment management company that ever came into my apartment was maintenance when something broke, and I had a good rapport with them so they weren't going to snitch. A quiet and well-behaved cat can be easily concealed; I even knew a girl in college that managed to keep one in her dorm for a full year.

My old cat got out the front window 3 days ago and she can't jump very high so presumably couldnt get back in. I've been looking all over morning and night. Anyway I'm sad and just wanted to dump it somewhere.

>>5139331Nothing yet... I am still searching for 2 hours per dayMaybe tonight
>>5139144Thanks Anon. He went peacefully. Vet confirmed we made the right decision. She sees a lot of kidney cats and knows what the progression looks like. Doesn't make it much easier but at least we know that we didn't drag it out for too long.
Please spare a thought for Aki. She's 7 and I'm possibly losing her due to IBD. One of the vets I spoke to today said I should consider euthanizing her, but I'm just not ready to give up on her yet. Other than her extremely low weight, she is the same cat she's always been.I don't know if I'm going to be strong enough to deal with losing her.
>>5139207>>5139405are you the dumbfuck i met at the bar in montana that has a disgusting house full of trash and you left the window open and a fuckin' bear got in and your cat ran off? if so, then fuck you on like 3 different levels.

>>5139489>One of the vets I spoke to today said I should consider euthanizing herI lost my old cat back in September, 16 years old. She'd had a medical issue about 4 years prior, stopped being able to walk with her back legs. Vet charged me 600$ to tell me to put her to sleep. It took about a week and she was back to her old self. In the end she declined in about 2~3 days. Those were still the hardest days of my entire fucking life. Cats don't die with dignity, and they do not find comfort in your proximity in their last hours. I don't know what to say when people bring up pet euthanasia. We already take so many decisions over our pet's lives, and ending it ... I'm afraid I'd take that decision to spare myself rather than the pet, I think. And it feels like a weakness. But still, having lived through it, Jesus Christ... She died in my fucking arms, I felt the life drain out of her. Ffs I loved that beast. I'm sorry, that's all. I'm really sorry for you and Aki, I hope she does better. DeltaCortef® is 20$ for a hundred doses here in Leafland, although those are pills, I think they are more effective in injections.
>>5139405Fingers crossed for you, hoping she turns up soon.
>>5139564I've already had two cats die in my arms. The first after a long and happy life, the second taken entirely too soon from her heart failing while I held her as she struggled to breathe. The one thing I don't want is for Aki to die afraid, and I feel like taking her to a vet to euthanize her would all but guarantee that. For now I am pretending like I can save her. I'm giving her new food, I am trying to make sure all her needs are met, and give her as much attention as I can. I am using four criteria to gauge her level of... closeness to death. Can she still purr, will she still lick my hand, will she still drink from the bathroom faucet, and is she still murring at me. Last night, all but #3 was gone and even picking her up caused her to start unintentionally growling. She then threw up the new food I was feeding her, and has reverted back, so I may have caused it just by trying to feed her too much too quickly. Mentally she is still 100% there. Like I said, I'm lying to myself saying I can bring her back from the edge, but I don't think I can cope with the reality that these are my final days with her. No animal has ever loved me as hard as she has. All I had to do was look at her and she'd purr for hours. I don't know what I'm going to do without her. I honestly might just follow behind her.
>>5139702Some vets do house visits, I had that for my last dog.A husky the doesn't want to walk anymore is a husky that doesn't want to live; he had lung cancer and they came over and gave him the injections, I felt his last heartbeats.
>Just scheduled the at-home euthanasia for my cat of 14 yearsFUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK DAMMITI know he's on the downslope, and he's giving me signs that it's time, but he's not in pain, he's just struggling to move and eat and hes going to get worse soon and I don't want him to be hurting but still fuck fuck Fuck Fuck FUCK FUCK FUCK DAMMITHe's had a brain thing that was keeping him semi-unbalanced for the last eight or so months, and now he's having trouble standing up steady. It's semi-uncommon in cats and dogs of a certain age, but still, man. This sucks. Also, it so damn expensive. Why does my wallet gotta get punched while you're punching me in the gut?>Thanks for coming to my ranting Ted Talk fuck shit damn FUCK THIS SUCKS MAN>>5139702Sorry to hear that.It hurts. It hurts every time. But, you are able to gauge their health better than they can, and have the ability to do something about it.My best advice for getting over the pain is the take some memories and lock them away in your head. Some core memories and thoughts of your little guy or girl of them at their best, and at their happiest. When you miss them, and you will miss them, don't think about how they're not there.Remember how much you meant to them and that you gave this little tiny creature, that would be lucky to have survive a scant few years had you not been around, over a decade of love and warmth and happiness. And they gave love back.Hold onto those memories, really think back on them and have them in your mind so solidly that they won't fade for years, and treasure them. When they've passed on, they're not entirely gone if you remember them, so remember the best of times, and not the end.
>>5139730She just barely turned 7. She didn't have enough time.
>>5139732>7 yearsAnd she loved you for all of that time. No matter what, you'd have to say goodbye, eventually.Even humans wish to be able to die in the arms of a loved one. Euthanasia lets your pet do just that. It's a last act of being there for them.If it's their time, it's just their time. Doesn't mean it won't hurt you to see them go.I'm sorry, friend.
She is laying with me, purring. She always purred with me. All I had to do was look at her and she'd purr for hours. I will never know a love as deep as hers ever again. That's why I'm struggling.
>>5139489>IBDCan't you give her corticosteroids or is it not effective?
>>5139738She has been on steroids for over a month now. Even chemo pills. She has lost all of her meager weight in that time. There is nothing left but skin and bones.I don't know how she's still alive. As long as she can purr... I can't let her go.
>>5139742You're going to hate me for saying this, but if you have to see her when she can't purr, it's already too late. She's purring because you're there, not because she's feeling great. Quality of life isn't a binary yes/no answer. You might need to make that call.
>>5139489Nothing wrong with going to a different vet for a second opinion.

>>5139890I'm so sorry for your loss.I'm struggling right now. Aki is straddling the line. She is abhorantly skinny, and often hunched over looking uncomfortable, but other times she acts as if everything is normal. She's purring endlessly like she always does, reaching out to me to pet her, turning over and wiggling...I don't know what to do. 4th of July is tomorrow and my local vet will be closed. If something happened, I wouldn't be able to easily find someone to come put her to sleep, and I don't want her last moments to be spent afraid in a cold sterile room. But she's still playing, and begging for attention and pets. I know the odds of her recovering are slim, but I can't stand the thought of killing her.I don't know what to do.
>>5139912That's a nightmare situation, anon. We can't take that decision for you.For my boy, the decision was taken out of my hands. I'd give everything for a few more days with him. >>5139912I just let my sweet old lady go Wednesday. She had been off her feed over the weekend and hardly pooping (but lots of gas like usual) and she acted completely normal until Tuesday night aside from not eating, when she started pacing the house continuously. I had taken her to the vet Tuesday morning and she had elevated pancreatic lipates but didn't appear critical, no blockages, no other abnormal blood markers. Wednesday morning she wouldn't respond to me, ignored being pet, had 0 interest in food, and just settled down on the back of a couch next to a window to look and sniff. This was a cat that followed me around like a puppy, would talk continuously as she walked (or ran, it was so funny to hear little meows as she flounced around), and demanded to be in my lap at all times when I would sit down, even interrupting feeding to come sit on me for a few minutes. She told me it was time and sadly I had just moved so I didn't know a vet that could do home appointments so I took her back to the urgent care from the day before. I held her from the moment we got into the room until she went. It will hurt, terribly, but if you're lucky she'll tell you like my Bailey told me.

Aki update. I no longer think she is at immediate risk of passing. She flits between periods of almost normalcy and periods of looking very uncomfortable. These uncomfortable events seem to take place after she eats or drinks, making me think she might just be very nauseous due to the medication. I am trying to get her some anti nausea medication. In her semi normal periods, she plays with toys, runs around, and purrs for hours on end. If she really was dying, I don't think she would be trying THIS hard to be her normal self. She is still criticality skinny, but having stopped the chemo medication and hopefully with the anti nausea medication I can work on getting any bit of nutrients I can into her. She still devours cat treats regardless of how she feels, and goes berserk on churu, so I ordered some veterinarian nourishing churu to supliment.Picture is her from today on my lap, purring her head off. I don't want to have unrealistic expectations and am still treating every encounter as if it might be her last, but I'm no longer panicking every time she looks uncomfortable.
>>5140303>f she really was dying, I don't think she would be trying THIS hard to be her normal self.Anon that is what cat's do. They're creatures firmly planted in the middle of the food chain so hiding any kind of illness, injury, or weakness is instinctive for them. Its an important reason why you should always take your cat in for annual checkups because by the time they show signs of something wrong its often too late.
>>5140303Anon, Aki will always be Aki no matter how hard she suffers.
>>5140377I... always take her to the vet I take her constantly. This is the third vet I've taken her to. I don't understand the implication here.>>5140409Yes and I am trying to be extremely cognizant of that. I was just trying to give an update based on my observations. The internal medicine vet agreed with my assessment and conclusions for what it's worth. I'm going to pick up the anti nausea meds later.
>>5140438>I... always take her to the vetI meant that more as a general comment to anyone with a cat. I just meant that "a cat trying hard to seem normal" is pretty typical cat behavior. Wasn't trying to imply you weren't taking care of the cat, sorry. Hope your dood feels better.
>>5140440She seems even better this morning, mrring at me and crying to be let in to get faucet drips. This whole thing has made me extremely aware that my time with her is short and she could go down hill in an instant so I am trying to be vigilant and explain in detail everything I see to the vet. I'm just glad I didn't have to say goodbye to her this weekend.

>>5140525Sometimes they won't like cheaper cat trees because they feel wobbly. I know I have a 6ft tall cat tree, but I had to used some 20lb dumbbells to secure the base so the cat felt better climbing up it. It might not be a terrible idea to drive some screws in the bits to make sure they're nice and tight.A cat typically wont climb up into something if they don't feel like it is secure. Also location is important, but it in a corner of a room with a good sight-line of as much as possible.

Started Aki on a new medication and now she'd drunk as fuck.
My cats love eating rabbit. I could only get to the store one day a week so I bought them a whole bunch! Had to mix it with some stuff they didn’t like or I’d have run out though ):

My male cat kneads and drools on me in the morning. I don’t mind it when his nails are trimmed but I can’t find my clippers.
I find myself with an issue. I'm moving a cat from an outdoor life. Farm house doing cat work as pest control. Too an extremely small apartment for about 3 months till arriving to the proper home after that 3 month period.Bigger home I doubt it will be an issue since it will be bigger than the old farm house, but I'm dreading the small apartment period.Any suggestion?
>>5140687Patience, lots of play time (gocat wands with the mouse attachment were a hit with all my feral rehabs) and patience. You'll have to see how the individual cat handles things, but 3 months isn't too bad.
>>5140687Provide them with large amounts of catnip, valerian, silvervine, spider plant, and indoor toys and climbing areas. And then never do that barn cat shit again. Barn cats have never once exterminated or prevented a mouse infestation. Mice evolved to live alongside cats and only totally naïve, lab reared rodents show total aversion to cat urine. In the wild mice that live near cats have more frequent litters and are more attractive to other mice. It’s just an excuse to avoid keeping a litterbox and coming home to ruined furniture and curtains.
>>5140689>coming home to ruined furniture and curtainsNever understood that, people just let cats scratch anything?
>>5140690Historically most people either treated cats like wild animals or like smelly houseplants and it was common to believe they weren’t actually domesticated companion animals, leading to most cats being destructive and skittish indoors. People from less advanced cultures still have issues like this. A cat with a friend and stuff to do doesn’t destroy much just like a cat that’s groomed often and on litter other than walmart’s cheapest doesn’t smell much.
I want to try and change my 2 cats' litter to wood pellets to save money but they aren't having it at all. I bought a 3rd box and filled it exclusively with the pellets, and they haven't touched it at all. I also tried slowly mixing the pellets in with the clay litter to try and teach them what it was. Any tips? Buying a house soon and my monthly bills (mortage, insurance, utilities etc) are going to effectively triple so I need to tighten the belt some and not having to pay $20 for a bo of litter every other week would certainly help
>>5140703Crush the pellets and also Sprinkle Cat Attractant. Take it one day at a time.
>>5140703Some cats are really really picky about their litter box. And cats in general don't handle sudden changes well. I wonder if you couldn't SLOWLY introduce the new litter by mixing it with their old litter. Start with a 90/10 split with old litter/new litter, and gradually increase the mix over a few weeks. What I've always wanted to know is how big of a sandbox would you need to build for a catio, or whatever, that could just naturally produce the waste.
Should I put this up around my neighbourhood?
>>5136334Both my cats got diagnosed with cat leukemia which has no cure. It could have been prevented if I had the doc give them the shot years ago, somehow they didnt receive it. Now they will wither and die.Feels like I signed their death sentence personally and I was supposed to care for them. There isn't enough talk about how keeping an animal isn't just giving head rubs and food.

>>5141154She only goes out the back garden which is "sealed" and she can't get out. During the heat, a window was left wide, and she jumped out, for an unknown reason since she's timid and usually shows zero interest in going out the front. After that she couldn't jump back in since the ledge is too high for her. I've installed netting now.>>5141166>>5141167Thanks. a group of middle aged women have started appearing in my neighborhood and feeding every fucking feral out there
>>5141190Are they doing TNR or just feeding them? We used to put out a little food for our neighborhood strays so they'd be comfortable enough around us to easily trap and get them fixed.
>>5141097I am very glad to hear this.
>>5141196does it matter? TNR doesn't do shit in a city like this. they're just going to attract more cats.

Feeding ferals is fine as long as you also get them fixed.
>>5141310You’re never fixing them all or only feeding the fixed onesThe right thing to do is to move them to an enclosed pseudo-wild cat preserve and adopt them out as they socialize and get comfortable entering and spending more time in buildings. They were gonna die in the wild anyways. If not possible, euthanize them, but a preserve only needs a tall fence and a staff building

Cats are like half their diet in the wild, you retard. Cats sporadic scent trail breaking grooming behaviors and preference for high spaces protect them from being sniffed out and caught by canines. >my horse/donkey killed my cat/dogYes they do just do that. It is always your fault. If you put the other animal down for this, you will be condemned to hell like someone who kills a cat for eating their favorite mouse would be.
>>5141541okaymy cat was most likely killed by my dad's hunting terrierthe dog's usually in an enclosure when i let the cat out but for whatever retarded reason this time my dad let it out before i've put the cat back in, my mom called me because she heard loud barking characteristic of when the dog is chasing something, and when i managed find the dog and return it to the enclosure it was all bloody over its head the cat has been missing for the 2nd day now and i'm losing all hope after looking everywhere for it i usually never cared about family pets which were usually just my dad's hunting dogs or random outdoor barn cats he picked up and i always just had a sense of duty to care for them rather than affection but this cat was different because i was forced to keep her mostly indoors cause of the retarded violent terrier (and before you mention how retarded is to bring a cat to a terrier household the cat, like the terrier, was brought in by my dad, and i was against it because it was a retarded idea and i didn't want to take care about yet another animal) and i probably never was and never will be ever attached this much to an animal i have failed her, she wasn't even 2 years old >>5141544>If you put the other animal down for this, you will be condemned to hell like someone who kills a cat for eating their favorite mouse would be.i know it was just following its instincts but i don't carei was ruminating on strangling it to death if the cat didn't return but i'm too emotionally drained to do that anymore so we'll most likely give it away hopefully to someone because i can't stand it being around anymore

>>5141547Yeah, in my family, dogs and cats do not exist in the same household. Even dogs people think are devout samaritan jews like goldens will eat a cat if they are hungry. Under no circumstances should a hunting terrier and pet cat use the same yard. A hunting dog is often adopted to keep cats out of a yard. Cats once threatened by predation rarely return. They are small and unusually tasty. Their entire lifestyle centers on eating and not being eaten. If your cat is alive they aren’t going to be eager to come back.

That isn't what your cat would have wanted. My suggestion would be to try to find a place on your own. I don't know how old you are, but just make that your goal. When I finally got a house, I got two cats to keep me company. It has been wonderful, both caring for them and them caring for me.Some problems you can't solve immediately. Don't let your emotions cause you to do something you can never take back. >>5141634I'm sorry you feel that way, but you may be correct, animal ownership might not be for you.
>>5141634If you harm that dog I will support your father in beating your ass for being such an entitled loser you brought your pet prey animal into your parents home and killed their hunting dog for doing what all predators do to prey animals. You are a massive loser. You moved back in with your parents. You shouldn’t have owned a pet in the first place. You should have surrendered your cat to a wealthy stable individual who could have cared for it properly. YOU are the one with moral agency here therefore it is your fault you threw your cat to an animal that was guaranteed to try and eat it. You decided to take the risk of alternating usage of the yard with a hunting dog in the first place, knowing well enough that cats can live indoors perpetually. It was all YOUR idea. And you did it because your entitled loser self felt entitled to owning a cat even as a homeless bum living off his parents charity, and that entitlement extended to thinking your cat needed access to your fathers land as well. If you steal from your father and kill his dog for natural behavior after you carelessly fed your pet varmint to it, why should he house you? Why should he ever help you again? Can you imagine doing that because his honest mistake led to his dog killing your carelessly loosed pet rabbit? Because you brought pet mice and budgies to his home and his cat ripped them up because one day he made an honest mistake, and you, the mooching guest, the failure and leech, set the critters loose without making sure your entitlements were safe in HIS home?Cats are edible. Owning one means it is your duty to protect them. You failed because you wanted the cat to yourself no matter what and put your short term emotional preferences above the cats long term need for safety and security. Never own a pet again, you homeless failure. People who do not at least mortgage property should not be allowed to own animals.

>>5141716you are making up a lot of assumptions for someone who doesn't even have the reading comprehension to understand that the cat was brought in by my dad and that i was specifically against the whole idea because i was anticipating something like this will happen and that taking care of her was thrust onto me because if it was up to to my dad she wouldn't have survived the first weeki also said we're gonna just give the dog away because this was really the last straw and they were already problematic before this event (why do you think the dog was even kept in an enclosure in the first place? we live on a farm with no immediate neighbors)anyway i'm done posting here, i wish i never posted in the first place
>>5141727>im a loser who lives with his parents and a dog that could eat cats>hmmm heres a cat>i should keep itSorry the dog is based. Never at the same time. Maybe you shouldn’t own pets at all. Get a job and a house loser.
>>5141768...You are poisoning the cat anon. If you don't want to keep it at least put it up for adoption or take it to a no kill shelter. Fuck is wrong with you?

>>5141777Somehow I doubt a drug designed for humans is somehow also just fine for a cat a fraction of the size. Fuck off.
Got a kitty about a year and a half ago. He's around a year and a half old too. Friend found a stray/possibly feral kitty behind her home and asked if I'd take it. No details other than it's pretty young and willing to snuggleI wouldnt mind taking it but I have no idea how my cat would deal with it. He's very aggressive when he plays and I don't want him to claw/bite the shit out of the kitten. I dunno if I have the space for another kitty and food/litter but I feel like I gotta at least take care of it until I can find it a homeThey're both males so I dunno if that makes it more or less likely for them to hate each other
>>5141813It's anyone's guess. They might be bros, they might hate each other. The main thing is to give them both their own space to start out. When I brought home a new kitten to replace the one that died, I had her in her own room, and she stayed in there for two weeks while I took and swapped blankets that had the other cat's smell.Thankfully for me, the kitten was like "And this big cat is now my favorite thing in the world" and my older can just couldn't say no to her, but they're also both Maine Coons so the level of being able to be okay with things they don't like was high from the outset.Basically look up guides on how to introduce cats, and have a way for them to be separated.

Kotsitting my friends young kot at my place. Wanted to just see how it is because if I ever got a bigger mammal pet it would be a kot. She is very affectionate, cute, always wants to sit on me or sleep next to me, which is lovely. Still seems to be a lot of work. Its a smallish apartment and I basically had to ban her from the living room because she got excited there and scratched the floor up in places, also started to set her sights on the sofa and kitchen furniture. She would be great if she wasn't so fond of scratching stuff. Kinda changed my views on ever getting a kot, don't want to do any declawing brutality.

>>5142392Cat Distribution System, just go look at cats and the correct one will be made available. Also as far as naming a cat goes, don't worry about it, you can call it 'cat' or 'kitten' or whatever and eventually its personality will present a name to you. I know with my current cat I just COULD NOT settle on a name until I ha to make his vet appointment. I had just been calling him "bud" or "buddy" and realized that is a perfectly fine name for a cat, so he became Buddy. My very first cat I named "Dog" because I thought it was funny. The next cat was an Abyssinian/Somali and as a kitten his giant fluffy tail was 90% of his body mass and he would run straight up walls so we named him "Squirrel" because he looked like one. After that I had a tuxedo cat, I was reading clockwork orange when I got him and the phrases "Kots and Koshkas" was rolling around in my head and I named the cat Koshka. As far as breed/color goes. I have had cats with pedigrees, cats who were just barn-cat stock, and a cat from a random street litter. The point is more personality comes from the individual than any other factor. I've heard people say male cats tends to be more affectionate, and I've always had male cats, except for the time my roommate who had a lady cat, and she loved me to pieces and I've never seen a more openly affectionate cat (though I think she was just more interested in cucking her owner, who resented how much more his cat liked me).
>>5142392Breed and bloodline matters. Shop, don’t adopt. Meet with a responsible breeder who can pair you with a cat that has a good indoors only temperament like a ragdoll.
>>5142273>>5142234This is incorrect, all predators overkill, human hunters included. Cats hunting "for fun" is a long-term survival technique aimed at reducing the number of prey that could attract other predators which the cats could end up being a target from.Modern hunting laws have more with being a holdover from old domain hunting, its to conserve the animals for other specific humans, in prevision of further hunting, not for themselves. Its why you have so many of those laws already in place before the rise of conservationism politics. Humans do not "know how to conserve", we don't have the appropriate cognitive skills to act properly toward it, at best we can understand its an ideal to aim for. Proof is you freaking out over one bird kill when that cat's ecological impact has already been reduced by ~99% purely by keeping it indoors most of the time. I saw a cat the other day on the corner of the sidewalk in front of my building. I was setting out to go and see if he wanted a pet, when in the span of one perceptual frame, he went from sitting in front of me calm to bent halfway backward, the head in this weird freaking position, and by the time I realized what was happening, he was back sitting looking at me, with a bird in his mouth. It's a beautiful thing to see.

Though I do miss the voice of my Abyssinian, the breed is known as "soft spoken" but its more like they've got a permanent frog in their throat, so they're TRYING to be the noisiest chattiest fucking cat in the universe, but can't, which makes the cat try to scream even harder to no avail. Cats aren't particularly difficult to handle once you figure out how their brains work, and most of their problems stem from being bored, under-stimulated, and not being provided constructive avenues for their natural tendencies.
>>5136564So how did the airport and moving go? How is it adapting to the new home?
>>5142560The cunt who can't capitalize properly doesn't get a voice, sadly. > thinks installing nets is the based way to own a cat. I fucking pity your mindworms, man. Must suck having only rotten shit to feast on.
>>5136705Why don't you just let her live outside? Have you ever considered that you're imprisoning it? The stray cat in my neighborhood loves me and always wants to sneak inside my home. Sometimes i let her, and she sleeps a bit inside, gets scratches, food. But max a couple of hours, she's outside. She loves trying to snuggle her face to mine.Does anyone know if that's normal with cats?Anyways i always pull the ticks out of her skin with a tweezer. I should get her some anti insect collar, but I'm broke. I wish i coukd also bathe her with anti tick shampoo. Her owners never take her to a vet, so she has fleas, ticks, and often wounds. I disinfect her wounds as much as she lets me.Fun fact is in the 4 years I've known her, she never once hissed at me or got upset with me. Oh, she also loves rolling around in sand. And i live on a busy road, and she always crosses after looking both ways.
>>5142574>Does anyone know if that's normal with cats? What, coming into your home or snuggling to your face? Both are kinda normal, I used to have a colony in my back alley that I'd feed, if I left my window opened they'd just jump in and make themselves at home. Never had much of an issue, but all were owned cats who were allowed outside for days at a time, so they had a minimum amount of care, never had one with ticks. As for snuggling, that depends on the cat. Each cat have their preferred method of snuggling up to you, you don't really get to choose, its a draw. I somehow lucked out and got "little spoon" twice in a row.
>>5142574Letting cats live outside aside from barn cats on a farm is an awful thing to do to a domesticated animal.
>>5142576Even barn cats are just wrongEvery instance of outdoorfaggotry ends like this >mice and rats: still there>cat: sick and dying>owner: delusional, entitled, histrionic, bloodthirstyCats are domesticated animals meant to be kept entirely indoors, inside of stone temples and storehouses where mice have a harder time digging in to begin with. It’s literally the only way they even do their job.
>>5142394>>5142543>>5142556>>5142567Thank you anons, im going to do some looking around and ask around locally to see what my options areThanks buds.
>>5142582You're correct but getting that last 5-10% is gonna be hard.
>>5142567It does. Emphasis on bloodline. Your average “breed” cat is effectively a fancy looking mutt. Proper breeders don’t just aim for conformation, but excellence. Cats have heritable temperaments and heritable intelligence and you can absolutely get a better cat than someone aiming for a show cat will ever produce, but only if you know your local breeders and put in some social interaction.
>>5142585Nah a cat in a somewhat secure building prevents infestations entirelyBarns? Mice build dens underground and get smart
>>5142575>I somehow lucked out and got "little spoon" twice in a row. What's little spoon with a cat?>>5142576It is awful. Her supposed owners are an elderly couple. I live in Transylvania. People here in general treat the animals in a very awful way, in rural areas where i live. My late uncle used to drown puppies in a river or drapped them in a plastic bag and hung them on a tree. Even as a child i was angry at him and told him he's a terrible man (to my parents' horror) . luckily the old alcoholic bastard got ran over and died in agony. Now his son is a similar alcoholic mentslly ill idiot, but i try avoiding him. If someone transfers revolut money I'll take kitty to a vet and buy her an anti tick collar.
>>5142588That's awful. I'm so sorry. I wish I could but I'm dealing with my own very sick cat.
>>5142589Damn, i hope she also makes a recovery :<
>>5142591Thank you. I'm keeping her alive so far, but the medication she's taking, Elura, really knocks her out. I don't know if it's helping her or not, because she's become extremely lethargic and slow while on it. I'm feeding her two Churu Nourish a day just to try to keep some meat on her. The cat I love is still in there, just very... deep under the medication.
>>5142583I lost a cat right before christmas, and I called my dad because I was feeling pretty bummed out about it, when he asked I told him I'd probably get a new cat some day, but wasn't in a hurry since I just put him down. But it made me go onto the local website, and honestly the first kittens I saw I fell in love with, and arranged to meet the foster family, I didn't realize how they named them in litters, so like the first three cats i saw were all the same litter. When the lady took me back into the room, she opened the door and the ONE cat in the litter I hadn't requested ran straight out the door, up my leg, and started screaming at me. I went in and played with the kittens for a while, but the first guy who ran out had definitely picked me, and I was signing paperwork the next day and was just waiting for the kitten to get older. His brothers I was originally interested in was an all black cat, and the other was that smokey blue color (i've always wanted a chartreux or russian blue), and the kitten I ended up getting was a silver tabby. Weird how coat genetics work since all the rest of the litter were solid colors. Still, I think he's got an interesting coat that manages to have all the tabby patterns in it at once and he looks like a cat wearing tiger striped pajamas. Very affectionate velcro cat. >>5142588I assume its like spooning with a person. Big spoon is outside, little spoon is inside. My last cat was a big spoon, and I'd wake up every morning to him wedged in the small of my back. My current cat was definitely the kitten who slept on top of the pile because no matter which position I sleep in, he will be on top of me. I can't lay down on the couch to watch tv because he immediately gets on my chest and its like a weighted blanket an I can watch consciousness flee my body as I drift into a nap.
>>5142593I am so sorry :( words cannot convey the sadness you feel, i think. I had a similarly sick dog but i moved away for the last few months of her life. I think my brain shattered a bit when i got a call that she passed.>>5142597>no matter which position I sleep in, he will be on top of me.Aren't you ever afraid of crushing him accidentally? Though maybe staying on top is a survival mechanism for cats. I never let this stray on a bed since she has fleas.
>>5142600I really don't know what I'm going to do without her. Have any of you ever had a pet that just bonded super fierce to you? Followed you everywhere, always wanted to be involved in what you were doing, would stare longingly at you for hours? That's Aki to me. I can look at her and she'll purr for hours. Would purr for hours. These days she's barely conscious due to the medication. I don't know if the cure is worse than the illness at this point. It's all I can do to keep her alive. If I ever suspect she's in pain, or that spark in her eyes goes away, I'll let her go. It's just... very hard to let go of a once in a lifetime companion.
>>5142600>Aren't you ever afraid of crushing him accidentally? Not really, not as a full grown cat. Also when you're asleep at night, the cat isn't so much sleeping with you, as posting guard because they think its weird to be unconscious for 8 whole hours straight. They can hear your heartbeat through your chest, and your breathing, so the cat probably knows when you're getting restless before you do. They also figure out where the safest spots are. Like the cat who wedged himself in the small of my back i that to stop me from tossing and turning, he was a big fat fuzzy doorstop. I usually lay on my side, and my cat kind of sleeps in the pocket made with the crook of my knee and the other leg, and its the right leverage where I can't just "fling" him off. Some nights I wake up and my hip is exploding with pain because its been slightly hyper extended by the cat laying on it, an I have to try and untangle my legs from the sheets without disturbing the cat.A lot of cat's like the pillow next to your head, cat hips fight right under your jaw/cheek like a violin base.
>>5142588>What's little spoon with a cat?>>5142597>I assume its like spooning with a person. Big spoon is outside, little spoon is inside.Correct. Little spoon is tucked along against your side and armpit. The thing with my old girl, >>5139564, she had done it consistently her entire life. Every single time I layed down alone in bed, she'd lay next to me. At any point of the day. The only time she ever failed was when she was really sick, and that's kinda how I knew she was. This is the new little spoon. A lot more assertive than the last one, he doesn't mind giving me a good scratch to let me know I'm not petting him properly, but he's fine with his belly and paws, its his head he's conscious about.I hope your kot makes a quick recovery, and is spared further mistreatment.
>>5142610>I hope your kot makes a quick recovery, and is spared further mistreatment. She is almost completely healed now! I took that pic months ago, though the healing process was slow. I am glad your new kot also likes spooning.. I stil don't really get what it is aside from just laying on you, but.. Its ok xD
>>5142604I know what you mean... But, maybe in this slow way, you had a way to say bye to her, see you on the other side... I cried for days and months after my doggo passed. >>5142605Yeah i guess they are kind of guarding you in a way, or see you as inferior... Maybe the biggest "advantage " of the stray cat visiting me is that she always just accepts me they way i am. I guess here she'd been mistreated by most humans, I'm probably one of the few ones that doesn't treat her like an object to play with when i want, or carry ger around against her will or any retarded shit like that. I treat her as a soul, and maybe that's why she keeps coming back and wanting to just snuggle idk. I've seen a guy once who seemed to only keep tge cat for instashit photos, otherwise he'd toss her around.
>>5142627Very nice
>>5139489>>5139509What's her eating schedule? how many times and what food?My cat recently had the same thing.
>>5142605Aww, so my little tom was guarding me
>>5138398I have a cat who suddenly got diarrhea as well, explosive to boot, though she's not losing weight (actually somehow gained a pound between the last 2 vet visits). Fully indoor since she came home with me 2 years ago then just suddenly had it one day after no perceivable changes. Ruled out parasites and food allergies, Proviable-Forte only did enough to make it non-explosive for a day or two, and yet her adopted brother is doing just fine. Between the money spent on trying to figure out what's going on and having to clean up the shit that she sprays around her boxes and tracks out of them I'm going insane. She was found outside at a few months old and was ridiculously anxious since day 1, and I cannot get her to knock her habit of displacement grooming to the point of scabbing herself up (originally thought she was allergic to the fleas I found her with, but she continued overgrooming after taking care of that). So now I'm heading in the direction of it being anxiety, but I don't want to bring it up to the vet and have her put on meds for that if it turns out to be something like a stomach infection or worse. I'm also looking into different litters in case that might be her issue, but I have no idea where to begin with that, especially since most of the hypoallergenic ones are pellets which I hear is a bad combo with diarrhea.Cat tax not my content but both my kots are creatures of the night so it seemed fitting
>>5142754Both of my cats free feed, so it's hard for me to tell. She's on a special hydrolized diet or something.
>>5142392>>5142394I am seconding Maine Coons as an option, I have two. by far the best cats I've ever seen, not a scratch on my arms in two years, I can bathe them without a fuss. find a good breeder that teaches them how to be friendly from an early age, that is the most important part
>>5142853It's so interesting handling them. I can hold their paws and actively feel them trying to retract their claws so they don't scratch me. They are incredibly gentle when they want to be. Incredibly smart too. Both of mine know how doorknobs work. If they had thumbs, I wouldn't have a closed door in my house. They're the most dog cats I've ever known.
My 6 month old Maine Coon kitten keeps accidentally stepping in his poo when he is in the litter box (which he shares with another male Maine Coon who is around 14 months old - they are very nicely bonded, and have another 2 litter boxes around my house to use if they want). Its not a huge deal as he is very docile and easy to help clean up, however he tends to track mess around the house after he has done it. Is there a reasonable way to help him avoid doing this, or is this just a case of kittens being kittens and he will grow out of it. Before somebody suggests it, the litter boxes are huge and definitely big enough for big cats.
>>5142873my other maine coon used to not clean his butt after pooping as a kitten, and I had to wipe him every single time. he eventually started to clean his ass. my other maine coon does not step in his own poop but he is a dumbass and doesn't know how to dig properly and often just hits the litterbox's door with his paw more than anything else. he didn't grow out of that. hopefully it's not a similar thing and yours will grow out of it. what kind of litter do you use? maybe the behavior will change with different kind of litter?
>>5142392Also recommending Maine Coons. Really lovely companions, interact great with other cats (if properly introduced) and people. I'd suggest a male cat as your first cat, as boys tend to be more chilled-put typically than girls. As for names, I tend to prefer actual names (Peter, John, etc) than more typical 'pet' names (Mittens, Whiskers, etc) but you call it whatever you'd like. Just something to mention: I have had Maine Coons for decades at this point - two died before their time (both from different bloodlines). One had hip dysplasia and died during a surgery at age 6, the other was born with an undetected congenital heart disease and died around age 5 months. Just like big dogs, they are more prone to health issues/usually exotic and pretty insularly bred, at least here in Australia
>>5142853>>5142889my only worry with Maine Coons is that i live in a really hot area in the desert, and its possible for my house to be 85f inside at times and 100+ outsidei just don't want it to suffer in the summer you know
>>5142891You will make a lovely cat owner already considering this, anon! They do tend to get overheated - I can say from experience currently owning a very large solid black lad. They are a very playful breed despite their size and he doesn't tend to realise he is really tired and overheated, especially in the summer time. He runs around for hours and sometimes I find him panting like a dog, which is definitely not good for a cat. I tend to run my air conditioning a lot during summer here in Australia to cool my cats down, even if I don't feel like I need it but that can be expensive.
My 14-16 year old cat (not sure on age, got her as an adult) has had abdominal cancer for the past year and a half and I'm pretty sure she's nearing the end. I just don't know when I should do what needs to be done or if I should wait and see if she passes on her own.
>>5142894Does she seem in pain? Is she hiding a lot more than usual/has her behaviour changed? Has she gone off food/water? If you're answering yes to these, might want to chat to your vet about getting her put down anon. Cats are extremely good at masking illness until it gets unbearable.
>>5142894Does she seems like she's suffering? Stopped being mobile?Severe limb weakness? Bad (like, wrong) smell and dried out mouth and nose?If she starts looking for weird remote spots to tug herself in, nearly obsessively, then she's in her last ~48h, from experience.
>>5142896>>5142897Not pain from what I can tell, and she is about as mobile as any cat her age. She can climb a little but can't jump; sends most of her time curled up on my bed asleep. She just looks off to me. Still eating and drinking. I think she is losing weight though, even though she's on steroids to keep her appetite up.
i found this little fella in my area.its a tabby, anyone got anything against a tabby?idk he's just a cute little feller.
>>5142898It might purely be age, cats can get pretty rough looking in their last 1~2 years. Not jumping is a definite sign of old ageism in a cat, so is spending an inordinate amount of time curled up by you, but from what you are telling me she doesn't seem like in immediate danger. >>5142899He's adorable, anyone who got anything against him got some serious issues.
>>5142899Don't feed him after midnight
>>5142576why?
>>5142736beeg yawn
>>5142909Here's her half-sister.
>>5142906It's very easy for an animal to get hurt by another animal, wild or otherwise. Easy to get hurt by just the environment. Easy for IT to hurt other things. Kills birds, other wildlife, ect. It's a very irresponsible thing to do.
>>5142835>She's on a special hydrolized diet or something.Has it helped fix the poops?Does she have an appetite?
>>5142918No, it did not help her diareah. She's still had it, even after staroids, even after chemo medication, even after the Ataxia she's currently on, along with the steroids.I'm slowly making peace with the fact that she's not going to come out of this. I keep telling myself that she's getting worse every day, that she's even thinner than she was before. She still purrs on a dime, still wants to follow me, to lick me to death, but I don't even know if she's all there anymore. I had been giving her Elura to try to keep her appetite going but it made her incredibly woozy and barely conscious at times. The vet told me to stop it today, so I didn't give it to her, and she still... seems semi out of it. I've brought food upstairs since I don't know if she's even going downstairs anymore. The cat that would panic cry at the door when I drove in the garage, the cat that would run up and down the stairs when I was collecting trash, the cat that would give the most pathetic little cries at my bedroom door to go in and lick up drips from my shower... I think I lost that cat several weeks ago. What remains is what I have... and I don't think I'm going to have it much longer. And yes, I know I can euthanize her. If I get ANY indication she is suffering, in pain, I will do it. As long as she still purrs for me...
>>5142926>to keep her appetite goingTry fasting her for a while, that'll bring out her zeal for life, it'll activate the predator. You should see scheduled feeding cats when you're 20 minutes late with their food.My cat was twice as old as yours when she got the same symptoms, diarrhea, weight loss until she was skin and bones, but never lost her appetite or energy, maybe because she didn't graze all day. Looking back, I wasn't worried about her at all because of her great attitude. She pulled through, I'm not sure exactly what caused or fixed it, could have been a temporary stomach bug. Your cat's too young to be dying from stomach flu.
>>5142937She is deadly underweight. If I stop feeding her she'll die in a day or two.You don't understand how sick she is.
>>5142937>>5143075Also she's had diareah for two years now. This isn't a simple flu bug.
>>5143075>in a day or two.I'm not saying stop, that would be crazy for your cat that's used to free feeding.I'm saying put her on a schedule, specific eating times. Allow her to get a bit hungry, it'll liven her up.
>>5142853Every time I see a coon pic related flashes in my head.
>>5143087Anon she's fucking dying. I am not going to take her food away. She's likely going to be dead in less than a week.
The neighbors started letting their cat outside a few years ago (decimated our local bird population). He spends most of his time on my property despite me ignoring him besides the handful of times I gave him the old dry food that was collecting dust. A week ago I looked at him and realized he had lost a ton of weight, so I began feeding him the good stuff once a day. He deletes a whole can of wet food and then instantly starts asking for more. Chatgpt said it's either diabetes or a thyroid issue. I don't mind feeding him but I really don't want to confront the family that is just waiting for him to die.
>>5143146Are you sure the family is waiting for him to die? You should be sure.
>>5143150I don't know what other reason people would have to put an old fat cat outside for the first time in its life.
>>5143152Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
>>5143146Just letting an animal go out to die like that is fucking sick. I'd want to confront them, but starting shit with people that fucking out of touch probably isn't the smartest thing anyway. Now just because he lost weight doesn't mean he's sick, especially if his family doesn't care for him as well as they should. I catsitted two cat for a lady that insisted I let them out during the day, while she was on a 2-month trip in Vietnam, well, exactly as I had told her I feared would happen, one of them just never came back for me. It showed up the day the old grandma came back, having lost 2/3 of its weight. Something similar could have happened.
