I like skunks
>>5137189

>>5137189Everyone likes their mom.
There was one at my best friend's mom's funeral yesterday.

>>5137189It's like a badger, only stinky.
They do look so cute and full of personality. If I had no moral compass I would definitely try to get one as a pet. But I don't support an industry where they rip half their ass inside out to remove the stinker so I'm just looking at threads like this to get my fix of weird little guys with a nice color scheme.
>>5137666They really don't smell THAT bad even with their glands intact. Like, obviously a roadkilled skunk or a spraying skunk are going to be pungent, but an actual living skunk only has a subtle musk to it, and you get used to it easily.
>>5137666same, I'd love a pet skunk but destinking them seems cruel, like taking away their superpower
>>5137668>>5137674Legit this is something i was wondering, is it really that bad for the animal itself? Like, do they have an awareness of something missing and/or feel distress at not being able to use this protection?Because I honestly can't picture that being much more worse than say, castration.
Removing their stink glands is no worse than spaying/neutering a dog or cat.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pr5nM9Oi14A
>>5137718Seems more akin to declawing your cat, or debarking your dog
>>5137191Why is that ferret wearing a fur coat?
>>5138441cute fella
Full grown skunks look like disgusting slobs, but the babies are the most cute animal in existence.
>>5138471False
>>5139177
They're impressive little guys
>>5138020>all of this animal’s behavioralism is based around the ability to execute function>make it unable to execute function
>>5137189There's a family of them living in my backyard, the juvenile is cute and wanders around by itself before the parents wake up
Anyone have the webm of the opossum shoving the skunk into the pond?
>>5141411
sleepy
They have very footlike feet
>>5142364to this day, scientists have yet to answer the age old question: "what the fuck was his problem?"
>>5145991he's just jealous
>>5137718or you can leave the skunk in the forest where it can be stinky in peace
Skunks are maybe my favorite animal.>>5137191They really don’t seem like an animal you should keep captive. It’s too hard to give them a proper omnivorous diet and they end up like this. I hear they’re always to burrow and tear shit up too.>>5137668I really can’t imagine that this is true. You can tell a skunk lives in a burrow from ten feet away. >>5138020>>5141043Just because the stink is what’s most notable about a skunk to you, doesn’t make stinking a skunk’s “primary function”. Most of the time they’re just bumbling around and looking for food. Unless they’re under duress they probably only miss them if they feel a need to mark territory or whatever else anal glands function for in other species. Anal gland removal is so many degrees less of a mutilation than declawing a cat or disabling a dog’s vocal cords.>>5137302I think skunk noises really define the word critter. They’re the most of a critter out of all animals.
My ex took me out for a birthday dinner in a park a few years ago. Around dusk a fuckton of skunks came out and started rooting around the grass all around us. Was pretty cool. But I did get out of there before we were complete surrounded.
>>5138400Fun fact, skunks were originally classified as mustelids before being given their own taxonomic family.
>>5137189They're cool if they know your scent and sound. I've had worse neighbors. Plus, they love marshmallows.Just don't startle them and they warm up quickly.
a skunk walks across my lawn every night at a little past midnight. i don’t disturb him bc i don’t want to get sprayed.
>>5147286He'll warn you first with stompies
They're so cute but they smell :(
>>5137189Me too
The chonk

It's cool that stink cats can have completely unique patterns.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_glXxZMl6cYhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqkkNtcEYUM
