I saw two magpies fucking with a squirrel recently, they kept flying at him and pecking at him and he kept trying to escape

yeah this is one of those cases where people just interpret too much altruism.
elephant pulling a gazelle out of the water before it drowns? altruism
crow hacking at a hedgehog on the street? either it was eating something off him or literally tried to just eat the whole hedgie
>>
my neighborhood maggies frequently chase the pigeons away, thanks maggies

Had a group of at least 4 magpies in my garden the other day, they sounded like demons trying to escape hell.

Would gladly trade them all for finches and robins

I have catbirds. The mated pairs just scream back and forth to each other all day.

>raaaahhhhhh
>roooohhhhhh
>minute later
>raaaahhhhh
>roooohhhhh
Forever.

I did get to watch a pair of them punk a small murder of crows recently though.

Used to live in San Antonio, fucking love grackles. They would gather in the tens of thousands in big parking lots and just scream at each out. They're just big loud assholes and I find that very charming, because I've never seen them actually hurt another bird, they just throw their weight (and volume) around.
