>>5137317>merely peckyour "no modern bird could do it so i can't imagine any other bird doing it" bias is showing. just because you've never seen a bird that could take your arm off doesn't mean they didn't exist. if terror birds just ate small prey they would not have an enormous sickled bill, which is designed to rip large chunks of flesh out of prey in each bird that has it. bird bills are extremely prone to specialization in evolution to represent exactly what they were used for. large, ground foraging carnivorous birds that kill small to medium prey, like herons and the ground hornbills, have straight bills designed to jab, stab and thrash and then swallow whole, they don't need hooks. yet terror birds had these enormous hooked bills that became bigger and more robust the more derived they were. that doesn't evolve for no reason. it's not for catching prey, as ground hornbills and herons have no problem catching, killing and swallowing prey the size of hares. these were bills designed to butcher. the evidence is right there. claiming that's not what these birds were doing is like looking at an archeological find of a gladius and claiming it was used to cut grass. and whats more, and this is something most people cant seem to wrap their heads around - large terror birds like kelenken and devincenzia stood about as tall as a basketball hoop, weighed as much as an adult tiger, and had heads the length of your arm. consider that.
