hi /an/ I saw a video the other day of a gentleman who made a fresh water shrimp tank out of an old candy/prize machine and I kinda want to replicate the look for my own place. I was curious if any shrimpers on the board had any advice on how difficult it is to get and maintain a nitrogen cycle for such critters, what type of decorations i should get them, and any other advice y'all would like to impart onto me. also feel free to post pics of your shrimps I'd love to see them!
>>5137978It’s very easy. If you’re worried about the nitrogen cycle then just add a whole lot of substrate, rocks and plants and let the tank age for a while. That will have the added benefit of allowing algae and detritus to accumulate for the skrimps
I love shrimps
>>5137978just don't mix multiple shrimp colors together or they'll interbreed themselves back to brown wild coloration
I use either a sponge filter or a hang on back, I don't have experience in non filtered tanks. I had zero problems once the cycle established, but had lots if loss when I made the mistake of introducing shrimp too early. In my experience if the microfauna like copepods appear the tank is safe.
