My kitty's "thumb" claw is has grown into a circle almost into her paw pad.No matter how low I try to cut it, she winces and makes pathetic little noises that make me think it's hurting her.What do I do?

You can trim to just before that without a problem, but you want to give them a little breathing room so cut a little more forward.
