Most standard hobby model RC cars average speed is between 20-30mph.
Less for basic toy grade.
I'm well aware that the more advanced cars really jump in speed, and if that's what's in the webm then you're right, they can't run that fast.
But 20-30mph, it's a chew toy
>>
>>5140736
Yeah that model in particular is meant to go fast and launch off jumps, pup is a bit wary of it because of the size and the noise but the smaller car I tried before that can't drive well in the tall grass.

Hey /dog/ I'm back to bitch and moan.

People who have never had dogs and will proudly tell you that their outdoor cat hates them because they always fuck with it love to give retarded advice like "you need to stop your dog from barking when he's scared by yelling full volume in his face. it's the only way."
>nigga why would barking back teach him that barking is inappropriate in this context just THINK about that for one hot second this is kindergarten A-B logic my guy it sincerely shouldn't be that hard to figure out
Then it becomes "you NEED to get him desexed THAT'S why he's spooked by loud strangers getting in his face you NEED to I heard it on tiktok male dogs are always HORRIBLE unless they're desexed it's a RULE."
One aunty keeps getting this shit-eating smirk and asking "is he pissing everywhere yet? he's spraying all over your house, right???? I told you not to get a dog!!!" because she used to be a backyard breeder and HER male dogs pissed everywhere and she absolutely cannot compute why.

Everybody desperately wants something negative to latch on to and there just isn't anything in this context unless you're one of those people who wants a braindead teacup dog that doesn't actually display any dog behaviours. Lil man has literally never snatched human food that's left out. I have multiple $300+ artist teddy bears at his eye-height throughout the house and he has never touched anything that he hasn't been offered, but nobody wants to hear about THAT. They want to compare themselves to Dog Daddy Cesar Milan dipshits.
>>
>>5142073
The beauty of owning a dog is you can just go outside with them, have a great day, and not give a fuck.
>>
>>5142073
And as someone with actual experience with working types (specifically Koolies, Kelpies, GSDs and Heelers) my biggest advice to anyone who does want to raise a Heeler is that they aren't shepherds. They aren't biddable dogs. They don't give a fuck how much you want them to do something, so trying to train for pure obedience isn't going to work - You need to establish good manners as a baseline personality from a young age. Give them an environment in which they trust you and THEY want to perform the behaviours that you want from them, through consistency over command.
"you need to be firm! be loud! make it a command!"
"no i don't. look, i can do a very subtle hand signal and he instantly follows the command."
"whoAoaoAOAOOaoaoaOAOA"
sorry anons i get so fucking angry when it omes to my lil guy i can only imagine how bad it'll be when i have human children
>>
>>5142076
Yeah, these are just my partner's best mates who keep coming to visit. It particularly boils my piss because these are the same people who scared him in the first place, as the first visitors when he was young, and I am angry with myself for not being firmer on that occasion.

i recently got a pit bull off the street and she's soft as hell, a lil scared of the world but super well behaved. the amount of boomers with cavapoos or no dog at all telling me this cesar shit, jab in the neck with your fingers, get in their face, yell. the old bald fag at work bragging he puts a shock collar on his fuckin frenchie. my dog's housebroke, loose leash walks & lets me take anything out her mouth. this kinda treatment would send our trust back to the stone age. moral of the story don't let faggots find out you got a dog

/an/ I want a dog. Will get a borzoi puppy in about 6 months.

what are some commands and stuff the dog should know for the vet and to just have a chill companion?

They are super cool, but they're super difficult to get here in Germany. Also they're really tiny imo.
Hope I can train the borzoi nevertheless.

:[ They're 1/3 to 1/2 the size of a zoi. If you get a zoi you should definitely post it either way.

If you get a puppy and start early with the right kind of training you could probably do it.

>>5142455
Down is very useful, stay, relax/place, and I use a "hold still" command all the time when I need to do inspections or grooming stuff.
>>
>>5142476
thank you, I will attempt to teach them just that. I will also brush his teeth daily. I am a dentist and it annoys the shit out of me when parents say that they "can't brush their precious baby's teeth" and then I will show them that I can brush my zoi's teeth and they will be embarassed.
What kind of usual treatments are done at the vet? I have seen ultrasound and general mouth and paw inspections?

>>5142474
I will take that puppy everywhere I can and get him desensitised to everything. I hope.

For some reason, decent dogs have been extremely rare on Craigslist and at the shelters in my area since around the beginning of the year. I don't see the trend reversing and I think it's sad that anyone would have to settle for a pit mutt, so I want to start mass breeding to improve my local gene pool.

The problem is that the kinds of breeds that I like (e.g. GSD, ACD, husky), I don't think are suitable for the average person in my region (gulf south, anyone smart enough to leave does). I'm thinking about maybe labs because they're pretty much the default dog. I don't really like them though. Any ideas?

For skunk spray? The trick with skunk spray is to wash it off within 45 minutes of getting sprayed or the spray bonds to hair and you basically can't wash it off.

Use hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, and baking soda. Apply and let sit for 15 minutes then rinse off. Worked perfectly the one time I had to do.

You most likely need antibiotics. Check the dogs temp to see how elevated it is.
You can get antibiotics without prescription through aquarium supply stores(online or brick and mortar) you just need to get the dose correct. Weigh your dog to establish correct dose. You can hold them and weigh yourself + them on a bathroom scale then weigh just yourself and take the difference.

Amazon has next day delivery for amoxicillin tablets in my area. Just search for fish amoxicillin and you'll see the tablets.

Sincere answer from not-that-guy: If his rural dad has already neglected it to the point it got infected and his final solution is to just shoot it, he's probably one of those silly cunts who wraps his masculinity up in his ownership of animals and would become sincerely offended if his own child actually provided adequate care. "It's your responsibility, then!" is usually a smug invitation to try and fail, to realize "dad was right, I am not as good and clever as he."

Several years ago my ex almost got into a punch up with his step-dad because his mother's cat had a urinary tract infection and he wanted to take it to the vet (and pay for it) but his step-dad threw a big fucking tantrum over another man implying he was better by doing the correct thing and not letting the cat slowly die in their kitchen.

Yesterday I thought i noticed by 6mo puppy walking slightly differently due to the sound of gait changing, but it seemed completely fine. It was playing around today and running (I was stupid for letting it) and now 24 hours later after I woke it from a nap to take her outside it's limping and doesnt put much weight on the back left leg. Is it inflammation from playing too hard or something more serious

I'll take it to the vet once they open just curious what you all think. Plus using this as a warning to take gait changes seriously and force them to rest to be safe

How do I exercise a dog, guys? I'm a hikkomore and I don't like going outside. I've had this dog for 2 months and she's done wonders for me. I've been going outside many times every day to take her out to go potty. I thought that indoor fetch would be "good enough", but I think she needs more. I don't want to walk her because she barks at everything. She's an adult german shepherd with a straight back. The shelter said that supposedly she bit another dog's neck or something. Not sure I trust her out and about.

Dogs require socialization
You said you can’t do this
You can’t have a dog

German shepherds in particular need daily interaction with other people, 2+ hours of exercise/exploring/socialization, and 1+ hour of play
You adopted one that tried to kill another dog and will have to be put down if it tries again
It should be owned by a strong, socially normal man with land and a gun
>>

I don't think they need that much. She's doing just fine with me. She's just a little antsy, that's all.

You need to give them mental exercise more than physical. Teach dog to find a hidden ball rather than just throwing it for example.
>>
>>5145614
Yeah, I've been feeding her in a "food burrito" - a towel rolled up with dog food in it. I stopped doing that for a week and she's become noticeably more antsy. I'm starting the towel-feeding again.
I've also discovered that I can run down the hallway. I've started running with her in addition to throwing the ball down the hallway.

She's got one big problem: When I take her out to go potty, she gets fixated on looking out in to the distance. I believe this is called "vigilance". I've had great success giving her a treat every time she looks at me. This has broken the unbreakable vigilance.
>treat-driven vigilance breaking technology: functional

I think I need a little bit more, though. I want to drive her somewhere and walk her in a secluded place. I'm really not sure how to do that.

literally what causes dogs to bite strangers and go apeshit for no reason

you keep an animal in a cage and pretend its fine because you keep yourself in the same cage
dogs are highly intelligent social mammals. the cortical complexity of a large wolf like dog like a german shepherd, border collie, nordic/asian spitz, malinois etc overlaps with the low end of large parrots and small monkeys
you think you’re fine because you have 4chan and porn
the dog is literally falling apart inside, fully aware that 1: there is a world out there 2: they’re trapped by a godlike being that can kill whatever displeases it 3: if they leave they will die

lord i hope you dont do any typical NEET autist shit (ie: rape) to that animal

> She's got one big problem: When I take her out to go potty, she gets fixated on looking out in to the distance. I believe this is called "vigilance"
Animal kept in a dark box for most of its life sees the outside world and can’t stop looking at it

Normal dogs dont have this as a problem. The way you live is automatic animal abuse and is making your dog deeply neurotic. Change your pathethic shut in NEET life or stop torturing a german shepherd by keeping them locked up alone stuck in a sterile box with you.

Dogs need to explore and meet other dogs and people.

whiny dog moms
>>
>>5145622
>uh, le doggy mommy. foid! kek!
You’re a shut in with a severely understimulated, non-socialized german shepherd. This is ironically how “dog moms” raise their “babies”. Except you’re not a woman (and never will be btw).

And it’s the direct cause of their “babies” biting people after “smiling”. Dogs, especially bigger smarter ones, need to live life and meet people or they go insane. Get a cat. A mutt tied to a porch in khazakhstan sniffing delivery guys and street dogs is more fulfilled than a NEET’s dog that only sees a dim goon cave and a patch of grass.

I mean it. Your dog is a liability because of the way you live. Stop being a sedentary shut in. Start going hiking and meeting people. Join a force free dog training group for owners of dogs with history (force can and should be considered but only for severe and dangerous cases and only with licensed behaviourist supervision, lest some ex-government k9 retard make your dog even more prone to biting).
>>
>>5145619
>Normal dogs dont have this as a problem.
She behaved like this right when I adopted her. And she was in the shelter for a very short time before I adopted her. Ergo, this behavior was not induced by me.

>>5145628
>force free dog training group for owners of dogs with history
Finally, some useful information. Took a lot of yap before I got that out of you.
>>
>>5145630
Vigilance is something neglected, shut in shelter dogs lose in a couple of weeks.

If they are owned by people who are capable of taking care of dogs.

Stop being a sedentary shut in. Start going hiking and meeting people. Your other choice is no dog. None. Being a hikki antisocial NEET is weak feminine behavior (stay at home wife). You’re genuinely not a real man if you live in a goon cave. You’re larping as a shitty woman. Weak feminine people can not handle large, smart, aggressive dogs like german shepherds. Even if you can make it dependent on you, you can’t make it safe for people and toddlers if you can not provide near constant exercise, work, and socialization - and engage in it yourself because dogs learn by example and follow their owners lead.

Man up or give up the dog and get a maltapoo or a cat.
>>
>>5145631
>Vigilance is something neglected, shut in shelter dogs lose in a couple of weeks.
Yeah, and she lost it. It's only since I stopped feeling her in a towel did it come back.

Quit your bitching.
>>
>>5145632
>feeling her in a towel

>reee stop bitching
Stop being a shut in fag with a nervous severely understimulated, mentally ill german shepherd. These dogs can and do kill children when owned by people like you. Granted, its usually a do-nothing woman not a 4chan fag.
>>
>>5145619
>and meet other dogs
Hell no. I keep two dogs for this reason. You never know when “he’s friendly” will end up with your dog bitten and a life long reactivity issue.

you got a dog bred for vigilance, for scanning the perimeter, for exhibiting watchfulness toward novelty. this is its nature and it must be fulfilled. this is part of the contract of loving a dog. the tripwire in your gsd is the novelty - given the opportunity to gain experience and context she will learn what is expected and what is novel. if you keep her in an apartment then everything outside that apartment is seen as a potential threat. you have also selected a manbiting breed. you can see the opportunity for disaster inherent in your situation. you need a trainer and a plan but also you should fit a good quality muzzle and start acclimatizing her to wearing one, just in case.

i must give my terrier opportunities to dig. it has rained on us 5 nights out of the last six but still we go out to inspect the rodent burrows. still she digs in the mud.
>>
>>5145767
When you word this in this reasonable way, of course.

A german shepherd is a man's dog. Indeed, I am a man. This dog makes me a man. She just needs a little more exercise, that's all. Some people are so dramatic.

She would walk up to it, sit in the sand next to me, but did not let it touch her paws. There's accessories available just for this issue, however some people take issue with them such as prong collars.
I always start with choking up on the leash, leaving the dog to stay right next to me, and apply pressure upwards instead of horizontal when they start to pull. Be gentle, no sense yanking on them like a gorilla. Walk the dog like this on a very short lead, applying upward pressure, start and stop a lot, each time making sure they do the same. Do this several times and don't give up. Always use a verbal command to tell them to stop pulling. This may take several times before the dog understands, depending on the breed.
After a month or so of this conditioning if the dog continues pulling you may have to pursue a different avenue. I've used Gentle leaders with success if all else fails.
>>
>>5147656
I taught my dog by just stopping every time he pulled
If he pulled at the leash I would just stop and stand whereever I was for a couple minutes and he figured out that pulling only results in boredom

Anyway, Biscuit's sister had her DNA tested and while obviously percentages will vary greatly between littermates, the top breeds came down to:
>full quarter miniature poodle
>20%+ border collie
-
>heeler
>shih tzu
-
>maltese
>kelpie

So I'd guess dad is half Poodle, half Maltese/Shih Tzu while mum is a predominantly Border Collie 'general Aussie farm dog' mix. It was kind of surprising but now I see any photo of a "Bordoodle" online and they're all just palette-swapped versions of him.

Yeah. They're great dogs that are quite receptive to training.
Some people say any puppy is a bad choice for first time dog owners. If you do get a puppy just be sure to have the large amount of free time available to raise them properly and everything involved with raising a puppy and you'll be fine. Puppy blues is a real thing but just remember it is only temporary and all the hard work you put in to raising a puppy well gets repaid back ten fold with an easy to keep and well rounded dog.
>>
>Neighbor from the upstairs apartment gets a puppy
>She doesn't know how to house train it, so it just shits and pisses in the apartment, and the smell permeates through the walls, into my kitchen.
>It barks at everything for hours on end, because it has no discipline
>It gets the zoomies every day, and runs around, thumping the floor
>Time passes, and the dog improves.
>No more bad smells
>No more zoomies
>No more barking, beyond a few warning barks at people who knock on the door.
>Dog picks up a new habit of thumping the floor with it's tail.
>For hours, there's a low grad thumpthumpthumpthumpthump
I imagine this is what it's like to have tinnitus.

That’s right, autism bro. Take your meds if you can’t take real life.

There aren't medications for autism. It's not that kind of disorder.

Excessive noise is intolerable to anyone who isn't low functioning.

Attack, attack, attack, that's all you do. You're completely unreasonable. You have no excuses for the noise, so you go on the offense to try and distract from the heart of the matter.

My dog is 12. He's starting to have senior moments (staring at walls, etc.)
What do I do
He's still active and happy to walk/run for miles
>>
>>5144633
yes, do it. I personally had to put a mesh one on my dog (pittie mix) because she wouldn't stop eating cat shit on walks, fixed it after a while, took a couple months, still have to be vigilant

Poodles are very intelligent dogs and learn tricks and commands very easily. As such they not only require physical stimulation, but also a lot of mental stimulation. They love to be in the limelight so they're quite easy to train.
Be prepared to spend a lot of time taking care of their fur as they don't shed. Learning how to cut and trim can be good if you don't want to go to a professional every time.
Poodles are also incredibly social so they can easily develop separation anxiety. They do not like to be left alone for long.

street pit is having a great summer. turned into a real fun, people-focused dog with nothing more than food rewards, the rare stern 'no.' i was skeptical but she scared a bum off the property without leaving my wife's side soon after we let her in so i knew she was staying no matter what i said

she gets daily nature walks, swims in the creek, runs in big circles after, catches flies, digs out rodent burrows. i see why pits go crazy in apartments - terrier's gotta be a terrier
>>
how do you appropriately punish a dog that doesn't listen? For example.
>Take dog out to go potties
>dog goes straight for his toys
>wants me to play
>I don't want to reward dog for not listening
>tell dog to go pee
>dog sits at toy
>ignores me
It is getting on my nerves a bit that my dog blows me off like this. Like I thought feeding him caring for him etc would be enough for him to listen to me but too many times he blows me off to do his own thing. The breed is boston terrier and honestly it feels like I have a high energy dog but he is not eager to please making it even worse experience to own
>>
>>5152593
Sounds like a potty training issue? You need to capture the “go potty” by saying it every time he goes in the correct spot. You can speed it up by treating him the second AFTER he finishes his business but you have to be sneaky since he can’t know you have treats or else he’ll wonder what he did to get it. (With time he’ll understand that going potty in the right spot equals rewards, however).
>>
>>5152593
you gotta convince him with rewards that listening to you is worth it
>>
>>5152593
>It is getting on my nerves a bit that my dog blows me off like this
He doesn't speak English, dumbass. You have to train him.

>pick the toys up
>take one with you but don't let him see it
>take him out on a leash
>stand next to the spot where he pees and stay there
>use the leash to keep him walking or standing
>he will eventually get bored and piss
>give him the toy, let him off the leash and play with him as soon as he does
>if it's been like half an hour and he's still not going, put him in the crate (don't get angry and throw him in) for an hour and try again
>>

>It's "autistic" to find barking scary and disruptive
The way dog owners twist reality in their brains to justify their dog's behavior is insane.
>>
>>5153852
Yes it is autistic

You are not normal. Nornal people can hear a dog without having a mental breakdown and touch a cat without having a paranoia episode over toxoplasmosis.
>>
>>5153856
A dog's bark is literally a threat deterrent and warning. It's instinctive to hear that sound and become alarmed. And that's putting aside the fact that it's just plain loud. If some crackhead started yelping randomly on the street, you'd probably be a little alarmed too. You'd want to know what the problem is. You'd look toward the noise. It's a disruption. If the crackhead yelped for an hour straight, you'd probably get sick of it and call the police.
>>
>>5153857
You are legitimately autistic.
>dog barks
>autistic with severe noise sensitivity has a mini melty
>gets on 4chan, his only outlet, to complain

Autism
>>
>>5153944
I said barking is scary. Not that dogs are scary. As for "objectivity", you set the objective that finding barking scary is a sign of autism. But you haven't provided any evidence of this. I can easily go online, and search up videos of people being scared by barking dogs. The videos are everywhere. Will you argue that everyone in all the videos are autistic?

Dont you have a video game or political/religious thing to argue about? We get it. You’re a sensitive little geek and jump out of your chair and piss your pants when a dog makes noise. This clearly isn’t the thread for you.
>>
>>5153957

Sorry, anon. But that's just how it is with racists. They can't into logic and reason. Actively mocking others for trying to be reasonable. And then it invariably devolves into "well muh race is superior, so I win".

For your sake, I'll limit how much I reply to them. If it's just baseless mockery, then I won't reply. They've already proven themselves mindless.

I've watched a ton of videos on dog training and have a pretty good grasp on training a dog, but what happens if you live with other people and they're way more lenient and tolerating bad behavior? if I'm rewarding the dog when it does good, but somebody else is giving the dog rewards for nothing all the time, doesn't that strip power away from me? How could a dog ever respect me when it could just ignore me and walk all over everybody else in the house?
>>
