Honestly, this kind of whole new perspective is a little shocking. Yet, I don't feel particularly strongly against it, or anything. It's just a bit... surprising how far humans are willing to humanize certain creatures, even to go as far as humanizing pests.

I work in pest control, I’ve been a bug fan my whole life. I’d say I’m comfortable around almost any invertebrate. Spiders, wasps, centipedes, scorpions, I literally love I love them all. I feel at home with a swarm of honeybees covering me. I’m regularly under houses dragging out maggot infested dead animals and taking liquified rats out if traps with no issue. The only thing I really don’t care for are roaches. If I see one where I wasn’t expecting to, or if one darts toward me or flies across a room, I’m startled. If one’s on its back with legs flailing, or I have to remove a sticky trap covered in dead ones, I’m grossed out. Not in like a severe way but in a way that no other commonly reviled or actually dangerous animal does. I remember this cartoon from my country of a 3D polar bear that was airing back when I was a kid. There was this episode where he went into a basement and he kept getting attacked by cockroaches who were constantly crawling all over him. There was also a part where he had a giant dog sized roach fly into his face. I think this cartoon has genuinely fucked with my brain, and now I can't even look at a cockroach without cringing. But over time that didn't matter, they don't respect you... they just encroach and take ground until you can't put food down for one second before coming back and finding your dinner covered in the them...I think the hive seduces people into giving up and letting them just reign. Luckily my shithole apartment finally started spraying (they were making us borrow spray they got from home depot years before.. roaches didn't care). A professional cleaned them out and I'm glad...They made me waste so much. So much food thrown out, kitchen utensils ruinded.... just a shit species.

I had a pet german roach once that came in from the winter, just a baby. I promised he could stay if he didn't bring company; he never did.I made him a habitat from a jar that sat on my desk where I would peep him and found him interesting. Very soon, I added many "ropes", ladders, tunnels, floors and whatnot for him to exercise and learn balance and such. I let him outside in spring, and after watching grow through a molt, it was sort of amazing seeing him run free in the wild.I learned he had expressions through his antennae. I posted about him here, but it was literally over a decade ago; I don't even think archives go back that far; his name was "Gregor".He got me really interested in arthropod thinking. There was this magic moment I couldn't account for rationally, knowing that a bugs nervous system is so simple. Routinely, from time to time, he would spontaneously clean himself, even when not eating. And it always made me wonder what emerged in his wee roach mind that made him go from resting and napping one moment to making a willful decision that it was time to wash. And I would watch this transition, transfixed, knowing there was a thought and reason occuring in there somewhere.
