They aren't pack animals like wolves were that allowed us to domesticate them into dogs, so it's a lot harder to selectively breed them to be friendlier and more dependent on us. And we also already have dogs, so it's hard to justify giving domesticating foxes for no real benefit, as nice as it would be to have domesticated fox pets. There was the whole russian thing, and I think the farthest it went was getting foxes that are kinda neutral to humans, as opposed to wild foxes that are really avoidant to humans. also this >>5144170 , some things are just super hard to breed out of an animal
