>>5144983It's pretty easy to get your open water license. However, you don't even need that to scuba. There are shit tons of services out there that will take you out on a boat, loan you the gear, and get you diving with just a few minutes of instruction. You will of course be lead by a professional the whole dive. I've done this in several places across the world from Mexico to Maldives (and at this point I should just get my cert). Just note that the further you travel, the better your experience is going to be. An easy trip like Hawaii that has direct flights and is super streamlined/commercialized is not going to be nearly as cool as say, El Nido in Philippines, which you have to fly for a fuck long time, then take a bus to a small terminal, then take a seaplane to a tiny island, then another bus to the opposite end for the docks, then take a boat to an even smaller island, then take another boat to a dive site. It's a much different experience when you're in a very small group in the middle of nowhere. TL:DR; traveling to these remote places to dive is a much bigger hurdle than actually diving. These places are also getting more expensive. >>5144988There's places that specifically lure whale sharks (via food) for tourists. You can swim with them and touch them. There's ethical/ecological concerns, but they are not abusing the whale sharks and since they are filter feeders and apparently not particularly aggressive, it's safe for people. I haven't been yet though.
