there was a stray kitten outside that i tried to bring in. i left tuna to coax it out until it was close enough to grab with some leather gloves on. it proceeded to completely freak out. i was hoping it would calm down somewhat after being restrained but it started fighting for its life. it ran away after that so i just left the tuna out in case it decides to come back. i feel really bad that i frightened the poor thing, i should have used a towel and had a cat carrier ready nearby. if it dies from its various wounds then one of its few experiences in its short life will have been getting terrorized by me

i’m sorry little kitten, i didn’t mean to scare you

another picture. i feel so awful. it looks just like one of my cats that i brought in from outside last year, they’re probably related. i’m really hoping this one fills up on the rest of the tuna and recovers from its sores, there were several on its abdomen as well

You can do better than that.
And yeah sometimes it takes a while for a cat to trust you. Depends how feral / scared oh humans they are.

If you keep coming to see it and bring treats it will get used to your presence. You should bring the poor creature to a veterinarian whenever possible so that it is not killed by those wounds
>>
Also try to use gloves or a cloth and not touch it with the bare hands. It might be caused by mites

it was a piece of paper, i left the can out too. i’ll try saving some plastic containers if they seem like they’d work. it’s a busy area (parking lot in my alley) so if i got special cat bowls then they’d probably get picked up and thrown out. i’m worried i gave it a reason to be scared of humans by trying to pick it up :/ i’ll keep checking the area though, i’d like to try luring it into a cat carrier with food then shutting the door behind it
>>5145882
yeah they looked serious, it might not make it on its own. i’d want to get it looked at asap

i have cowhide leather gloves that i was using, the poor thing smelled awful

Try to rent a trap to catch it in, then bring it into your house and use food to socialize it; it only gets food when you're around, as it eats you touch it a bit, etc. It looks young enough that you can fully socialize it into a housepet but that window closes fast.

Harbor freight has a trap for 30 dollars

i’ll see if i can find a rental or check harbor freight, $30 isn’t much and there are so many strays around here that more kittens are likely to show up eventually. i could print out some pictures to tape onto the top and leave a description of what i’m doing + my number in case they have any concerns? or if they see it in the trap and want to notify me

part of me thinks i should just call the local animal services and let a professional handle it, but idk
>>
i’m thinking too that if i have a professional come by they could TNR the adults. there’s at least 6 adult strays that hang out back there and only one of them is fixed
>>
i rented an animal trap!! i’ll try setting it up later today. i’m thinking i’ll print out some pictures of the kitten along with a description of what i’m doing, the best spot is technically going to be on the neighbor’s apartment complex so hopefully they’re okay with it. i also got some thick paper bowls to put the tuna in so that it’s a little more proper. i’m really hoping it returns after yesterday’s scare

Good luck on catching your first pokemon

oh and i also talked to a neighbor about the feral strays in the area, she gave some lore on their family tree but apparently they’re mostly fixed already and this kitten isn’t part of their brood
>>5146026
thank you!! this would hopefully be my second, i brought this guy in last year without nearly as much fuss. he’s grown to be very strong and healthy, i’d like this new one to have the same chance
>>
>>5145952
it was clearly a busted paper bag, itoddler
>>
>>5146155
it was some paper packaging that i ripped a small amount from, very similar consistency to a paper bag. i set out tuna last night in the paper bowls which will keep things clean, i’d like some indication that it’s returned before deploying the trap. the trap i rented also might be too big so i’ll return it today and try buying one for bunny-sized animals. i prefer posting from my phone because it’s where my photos are stored and the captcha is easier

the cage i got, hopefully it’s the appropriate size. i really have no interest in catching adult cats, kittens only, so this seems better. it’s maybe a bit narrow but the one i was renting took up the entire back seat, i’d worry about the activation pedal being too stiff or the door coming down and crushing the kitten
>>
>>5146283
throw a towel or blanket over the top and sides so only the opening is visible, otherwise it'll try to get the food from the other sides. you might also want to have it ready to go and deploy it when you see the kitten, so you dont end up catching a possum or similar. tuna is good luire since it's got a strong odor but obviously you're going to want to get some actual kitten food, and get ready for some vet bills because he's probbaly gonna need fecal tests for parasites and, topical/oral anitibiotics for the wound care, and maybe some gabapentin if he's too schizo to treat.
also some churu/similar treat tubes, since those are like kitty fentanyl and most sins will be forgiven with a tube of goo.

i have a camping tarp! i’m just keeping the whole setup along with the bait in my car near where i saw it. i’m mainly using tuna right now since it’s a strong scent, i’ll give it kitten food if i manage to bring it in. i was hoping to see if there’s any humanitarian group that handles the medical side of this but i’d be able to swallow some vet bills if need be

and yeah i’d much rather use the trap after spotting the kitten again and then monitoring the situation to see if it goes off successfully. i don’t really want to set it up blind, too many other critters that could potentially end up in it. some of the tuna i left out last night was gone so i filled it up again in the same spot, it could have been anyone who ate it but if it’s the kitten then maybe i can establish a pattern and see it show up again
