Honestly though, don't stress out about a name right away. Just hang with the animal and a name will present itself. I remember getting a cat and going back and forth on what to pick for a name, but I had been reading a clockwork orange at the time, and the phrase "Kots and Koshkas" was stuck in my head, and he was a little punk ass gangster of a kitty, so I named him Koshka (I didn't know at the time koshka was a more feminine form, I thought it was "cats and kittens" from the context). Either way, we all know the only time you will call your cat by its ACTUAL name is when you're making a vet appointment. Otherwise it will be the same ever-evolving embarrassing baby-talk string of nicknames. I am also of the opinion that your dog gets your last name, while the surname of every cat is officially "The Cat."
