I was considering getting a hamster but I have to leave my house for 6 days each month and won't be able to bring it with me during those days. The plan was to clean the cage just before leaving and just after arriving and ask a a neighbour to change the water and food daily. What worries me and is making me consider not to get the hamster is that it won't leave the cage even for a walk inside a ball since the neighbour hasn't time enough for that. Are 6 days without leaving the cage cruel for a hamster?
yes, l'il nigga will die
No dummy it is perfectly fine. Get the hamster a proper cage with different hides, wheel, etc.
>>5146017>I want to get an animal I can’t take care of that doesn’t suit my lifestyle Just don’t then.
>>5146017Just give it six days worth of food and water. Its not gonna die of boredom
>>5146017Leave it outside the cage for those six days then. Not fully free roam obv, but build like a larger pen area where you can put more food water so you're not relying on your neighbor to always be there. Will be more expensive though. Otherwise agree with >>5146427 , just don't get an animal you can't care for.
>>5146017Just get a decent sized enclosure, get one of those water bottles, make sure you add some toys and stuff to keep the animal occupied, leave it with a decent food supply, and clean the enclosure before you leave. It’s not like these are super intensive animals to care for.
And what should be the minimum depth of the bedding?
I own 3 hamsters, all in large and enriching enclosures, and I have left them alone for that long before. As long as they have enough food and a full water bottle, they'll be chilling. I have two Syrians and a Roborovski, but I have also owned Russian/Campbell's/Winter white dwarves before. I give them 8-12 inches of bedding. I would recommend a Russian dwarf. (or Campbell's or Winter white; They're all the same thing in the US anyway because they are so interbred.) They tend to be significantly friendlier than Robos or Syrians on average. Do not get a female Syrian. It will get out of its enclosure when you are gone and die in your walls. Males are lazy and stupid so it's less of a concern with them. I have 2 males right now (in separate enclosures) and neither tries to get out in any meaningful way.
Get a wifi camera too so you can check on what your dumb ass hamster is doing while you are away.
>>5147500He's going to watch on webcam while it magically manages to kill its self in the dumbest way possible.
>>5146017Your neighbor will hate you
If you get a proper enclosure for the hamster it won't need to leave it at all except for cleaning. The bastards get stressed from being touched or moved since they're solitary in the wildJust get it a big ass enclosure and a feeder with a timer and it will be alright
>>5146017Tard proof the cage and fill with enough food and it will be fine.
>>5146017What do you do that means you need to leave your house for 6 days each month? And are these days away all concurrent, or are they at intervals?
gf's hamster died of cold in the night, be sure to mind that they're pretty sensible to temp, we didn't know that it also can hibernate, look into it
Out it this way, who ever acquires the Hamster you would have gotten will with the law off odds nearly definitely leave it in a cage 24/7. If you don't have it they will. Think about that before you anything
