Is this Niko?
hee hee omg these are wonderful Mr. Seal. I haven't even finished looking at the last thread lol but thank you.Btw I really like this channel and saw this vid and forgot to share the link with you a few weeks ago. If you get time. The channel gives really good tour information.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1pOL1bf0SM
>>5146771Yup that's him as a pup. You can tell because he has the goofy indented face. Apparently he was birthed prematurely which is why his face looks so silly. I have some videos of young Niko that I'll post here too.>>5146775Thanks for sharing, I'll look into it more later. I dunno why but a lot of the seal pics and videos I share usually come from Japan, Niko being an example of this. I Guess Japan really likes seals now that I think about it? Also the videos of the Japanese aquarium workers with the seals are always cute too
Niko is kinda like a reverse Michael Jackson when you think about it. Because he was born white, and became black.
Okay, thats enough Niko posting, from me anyway.
So much seal love we've generalized! So cool to see, thank you anons <3Sitting down after a hard day and seeing what my favorite seals are up to makes it all worth it.
>>5146806His face is so flat, you could land a plane on it.
>>5146798Yeah if you look around that channel, you find the Japanese are pretty elite about animal attractions. They have so much I have never seen before and if they exist anywhere else on the planet at all, they are far fewer than in Japan. I think you will like the video, or I hope so, but I think if you want some real cozy youtube, you might like the whole channel. His videos are really good. You feel like you are traveling with him.
I have some seal hug videos.
I dont post monk seals that often.
In Hawaii, it is a felony to harass these guys. Because they're endangered.
>>5147236arrest that shart
>>5147245It always feels kinda weird seeing a seal in a tropical environment. Because most of the pictures and videos I have of seals are usually from colder climates. Pretty cool these endangered creatures aren't extinct. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for their caribbean cousins.
>zero land predators>illegal for humans to harass them>can sleep all day in the sun on a warm beach>not a care in the world>unbotheredMust be nice being one of these guys, except for the sharks and idiot tourists I guess.Oh, and they also burrow their hands into the sand to regulate their body temperatures, and they literally snort eels up their noses.
i love tsuki chan.. shes such a spoiled baby but she deserves it all and more for being so cute, especially when she moos so demandingly. shes becoming somewhat of a forced to be reckoned with now that shes developed her mother's slap skills Who would you choose to snuggle with, Tsuki or Mashiro?
>>5147264Neither. I'd choose Hiyori because she's basically a furry egg.
>melts you with my poop vision
>>5147772I will never forgive you for being the last post in the previous, previous thread. Curse you poop seal!
Okay... repost from previous thread I know. But what could Hanako possibly want?https://youtube.com/shorts/4sl9mIaB-m8?is=i7jTHbMtIuHR9GD8https://youtube.com/shorts/k5q_wi3ubkg?is=fwCl0IUUofk_fwfg
Why does shlissik do this
>*cough* ough... *cough*>they.... they pooped me....
>>5147794You get the seal of disapproval for that.
>>5147799Why
>>5147782all the fibsh
>>5147793Fucking love when seals sit like this, it drives me nuts. Also i only just realized Shlissiks weewee is visible in this photo. Put that away, young man.
>>5147882>forget image again>ough
Fun fact I learned recently, did you know earless and some eared seals can move their eye sockets? If you have your head facing forward, looking up at your ceiling really hurts. Being able to look up at the sun beams cascading through the water without craning your neck must be awesome.
>>5147885Dude just bend your spine backwards. Minazo the Northern Elephant (bucket) seal weighed 2 tons and could touch his feed with the back of his head.
>>5147894*Southern*feet
>mooom, anons being mean to me again!
>>5147943What who, why?
>>5146746Why do seals look like CGI?
>>5147784baikal seal eyes are freaky
>>5147955Stare into the darkness for long enough. And it will stare back at you.
Just a thank you to Seal anon and everyone else sharing. Its really raised my appreciation of these wonderful animals.
>>5147975Im glad you are enjoying the thread, anon. This video is special for you. Apparently some seal species will try and sleep underwater, to get away from land predators. This can be somewhat challenging for them to accomplish, as seen here.
This video also shows seals trying to sleep underwater. Even though these seals live in captivity.
Speaking of sleep. Maybe I should get some sleep... sleepy time, for sleepy seal.>>5147883Does this count?
I also like it when seals sit funny. Although I wouldn't say "it drives me nuts". Come to think of it, do seals even have nuts? I probably shouldn't look that up... but I'm guessing they do somewhere in those blubbery round bodies of theirs?
F
>>5147978>>5147979Indeed, I only learned about that from this thread. Sea mammals are pretty amazing, such wild evolution stories too. The more I learn about animals, the more I can appreciate them, so its actually fun to find out how much I don't know. Thank you.>>5147980lol
>>5147985-ibsh
>>5147978>>5147979Correction, these seals are successfully sleeping.Seals sleep with half their brain, unlike us. So they can swim to the surface for air every minute or so using far less brain power than it would be for us. When you see seals holding onto seaweed just floating, they're still asleep, but they can hold onto it using half their brain. Seals are such amazing little fuckers
>>5148257I meant the "challenge", comes from them being thrashed around by the underwater currents while trying to sleep. You are still correct in what you said though.
Feeling positively dapper.
So I was thinking about this sleeping underwater thing and its one of those amazing things in their evolution I was saying earlier. It just sort of makes sense how nature would select them, so to speak.Imagine you just hang out in the water so much out of the necessity of food that your limbs eventually just diminish over generations to the point where its just easier to stay in the water since theres nothing much on land but plenty of fish in the ocean. Naturally you're going to doze off more and more and the effort to go all the way on land just seems like worth less and less effort. So maybe you lounge in the shallow area for a some generations. But over time, the tide will keep pulling you out and you will keep being awakened by a snoot full of water. Eventually, you naturally start holding your breath for a few more seconds of shut-eye, and in more generations, minutes, and if your body can take it, it adapts in new ways, not the least of which is scrunching your nose so often that the nostrils themselves begin to favor bigger and bigger flaps. And you do it without even thinking much, which just means more sleep and longer hunting underwater, so you are benefiting in two ways at least.Since you are expending so little effort moving, you can hold your breath longer. (If you swim a lot just for fun, you learn this. I think two minutes was my own best by being motionless). The brain surface uses the most oxygen per area, so if you are sleeping, you are using even less. Much of the body is fat, which doesn't really need any for long periods. That really just leaves organs and muscle. The muscle is motionless.I still cant account for the organs though. I just meant to say I think this is just another way sea mammals sleeping underwater is pretty fascinating as evolution, "form follows function" and all. I bet the story of cetaceans is even crazier. Thanks again as always for the great pics and vids.<3
>>5148143That must be sort of scary. I dont remember where I saw it in video. I think it was elephant seals. Anyways, the poor things somehow get around cliffs and are forever falling to their demise there.
>>5148433I think you're thinking of walruses. I believe this happened, because they panicked and have very poor eyesight.https://youtu.be/2Q5EniSwHvo?is=BM8N5TdHQ5H4WnAL
>>5148438Oh you are probably right then. I just remember it was sad and apparently happens with some regularity in some places.
>big fat animal that wrecks havok on human settlementsIs Neil the closest thing to a irl kaiju?
>>5148432I'm glad you're enjoying what I've been posting so far. I imagine the sleeping thing is just something they've naturally evolved to do, so they probably don't think much of it. Kinda like how some humans sleep walk, without any recollection of it the morning after. Evolution can be funny like that.
I'm still convinced this is the funniest video on the internet. It's even better with audiohttps://youtu.be/FWewob49LfY?is=-j65B27lwFQoCKNM
yo chan is a beautiful and polite lady
>>5148605Yes she is. Here's a "gyu" just for you.
Yo-chan as a pillow
And Yo-chan with her baby.
>>5148629She looks so pretty in this one, very flattering video. Not simply cute but a beautiful specimen.
>>5148642
Her greed sickens me.
These are all great lol>>5148595Hi Mr. Seal. I saw your nice butterfly pics. I hope you are well. Love that video btw<3
>>5148600>aim for the bushes
>>5148685>put the fibsh in the bucket and nobody gets hurt
Yeah you know that stretch felt good.
>>5148693Oh yeah I enjoy nature and insects. June beetles and moths in particular are probably my favorite insects. And butterflies are great to, but impossible to handle because they always fly away. I find it's helpful and good for your mental health to try and spend time outside each day, even if it's a small amount like 10 minutes.I have a feeling you might enjoy this particular video. I'm not entirely sure why the seal is being brushed, the best info I could find is that it apparently helps them with moulting. In case you didn't know, seals will shed their old fur and grow a new layer underneath it, when it's time for them to moult. I guess the brushing helps?

What do you guys think of Hoover the talking seal? He was able to mimic human speech pretty accurately. And it's honestly kinda unnerving to hear.https://youtu.be/YCBRR98MgH4?is=2eYb8kcwqt7uz66uhttps://youtube.com/shorts/b9EWmkj2YmI?is=8KHGeMPQwg_6Bw_m
>>5148824Indeed I'm a nerd for arthropods and such ^^Butterflies and moths are amazing. They have amazing lives, if very short once they have their wings. I could gush about them much more but Idw derail. And I am grateful for everyone sharing their pics and videos.I really liked the seal tongue video too. For some reason, the faces remind me of that luck dragon in the movie "Neverending Story".Anyways, I might be away for a while so thank you again, and I hope you are feeling and doing well. Be blessed, Mr. Seal, and all itt.<3
>>5148895lol terrifying
>>5148895>On May 5, 1971,[3] Scottie Dunning discovered a tiny male harbor seal pup on the shore of Cundy's Harbor, Maine. After a failed attempt at locating the pup's mother, Dunning called his brother-in-law George Swallow for help. When Swallow arrived, the two searched for the mother seal and later found her dead among the rocks.[4]>After careful consideration, Swallow finally decided to take the seal pup home with him. At first, it refused to drink milk from a bottle, but once advice was given by a neighbor to grind up fish and offer it to the pup, he sucked it up like a Hoover (vacuum cleaner), hence his name.[5]>The Swallows kept him in their bathtub, but this proved too inconvenient within a few days; as such, George moved him out back to a spring-fed pond where he set up a "pup tent" enclosed by a wire fence.[4] Hoover lived very much like a family dog and even accompanied George riding into town with his head poking out of the window.[3]>As Hoover grew, so did his appetite, and the Swallows found themselves contracting a firm in Portland, Maine, to supply them with enough fish. The Swallows spoke to the seal pup constantly.[5] Alice Swallow recalls in her book, Hoover the Seal and George: "If George was late in giving Hoover his breakfast [he] found his way up to the back steps … George would yell, 'Hello, there'. George and Hoover were great friends. Sometimes Hoover would hide … and would not appear until George yelled, 'Get out of there and come over here!' Then Hoover would come out of hiding and rush over to George and greet him with a wet, fishy kiss."[4] It was during this time that Hoover began to mimic George's thick, gruff accent and catchphrases.[5]
>>5148895>>5148973Hoover was one of a kind. None of his offspring could do what he did. A reminder that no matter how certain we feel about the limits of what animals can do, they could always exceed them.
>>5148943Until next time. Enjoy your break away from here.
Booo!
what is the evolutionary advantage of permanently looking like you're about to burst into tears?
These threads are so comfy. It feels like the one spot on 4chan now thats truly free from infighting and politics. I go to seals when I'm feeling down, it's nice to see so many other anons do too :)>getting teary eyed over cute seal photos>>5149184top gun mash-kun!

Back to cute...
Seals are precious. I'm glad they're not all extinct like the Caribbean monk seal, or the Steller's sea cow (which I know is not a seal btw, but it's still an extinct marine mammal)

The "other" thread scares me sometimes. So I come here and post seals instead.
>>5149784Be nice to Tsuki chan, she's too short to reach!!
>>5149949You deserve so much better than that place, and I am glad you have the sense to disregard it, unlike everyone else there. I am very grateful for the cheer you bring here. It feels bad that I wont be able to lurk the seal thread much longer as I need a break from the site, but I want you to know how much I appreciate it as long as I can.
>>5149959Thanks, I appreciate hearing that. Unfortunately it is my home, and I actually like the discussions sometimes, even if they can be somewhat monotonous at times... I'm assuming this is the Seaworld anon I had a conversation with about manatees a while back? I think you made a post talking about an Overwatch match you had or something last night? I'm not sure, but it looked like your typing style with how intricate the phrasing was but I'm not entirely sure? And even if you're a different anon I still appreciate your kind words. Regardless, I hope you enjoy your much needed vacation from that hell hole.Oh, and one last thing. I wasn't sure what seal picture to post, so I figured I'd go with this one. I believe this picture is the first seal picture I ever posted on this website back when I first started posting in "those" threads. So it has some nostalgic value to me. Kinda useless sealposter trivia I know, but it matters to me. Σ(-∀-;)
Anway, back to posting seals
Marshmallow.
>>5149962It is the one you call Seaworld Anon, but I did not post about overwatch or much at all recently.I appreciate the (spooky lol) pic and personal share. Be blessed and be well, king. You're the best. <3

Medieval depictions of what they thought seals looked like at the time.
>>5150327One of the reasons why a lot of medieval drawings look so goofy is because a lot of the time they were drawn from word of mouth like how others described the animal to look, and because they didn't have access to the internet or reference images like we have today. I find this one to be especially interesting, because obviously the artist messed up in just about every way possible, and yet he still somehow managed to get the the tufts of fur that seals have in their front flippers correct. Even if he drew them like a dogs back legs. This particular drawing is by Jacob van Maerlant, and he was estimated to be alive somewhere around 1230 to 1288 AD. This means he was alive, when the Dodo birds, Giant Moa, The Haasts eagle, and the massive Elephant Birds all roamed the islands that they were found on, before humans slaughtered them. When he drew this particular drawing.
