Yet, the transformation of the paleontological community, not just outside the professional sphere but within it as well, is beginning to bother me.

Quite simply, the paleontology community couldn't compete, and still can't, with what Pokémon offers. I remember setting aside my own passion for dinosaurs and science back in 1999 and 2000. It wasn't until I entered my teens and broadened my interests around 2001 that I finally moved away from Pokémon; fortunately, my interest in the prehistoric world resurfaced once I was an adult.
Dinosaurs were never cool or popular. I remember all the autists in school that liked Jurassic Park were bullied hard.
