White people have self preservation instincts and don't let slimy poisonous creatures crawl all over us to appease creepy snake gods

How are people still so retarded that they believe scales are slimy?

Not sure were that belief started. Maybe an overlapping thought/mix up with amphibians or worms? "slither" does sound like slimy word.

It's when they're wet historically, after rain in the new world or when near a water source in old world europe.

And your picrelated is like saying black widow represent all spiders.. In reality most snakes people will see in real life just look like picrelated with different colouring. Beyond humans' predisposition to disliking snakes, there's really no reason to paint it's as terrifying as people make it out to be.

if you wanna get real autistic... there are poisonous birds (the hooded pitohui from New Guinea) and snakes (the rednecked keelback from Indonesia), though both derive their toxins from things they eat, which you could probably similarly make happen with rabbits, tigers, or practically anything if you had them consume something like radioactive food
>>
>>5149187
You need to remember that humans are animals too.
>Humans and their ancestors going back millions of years evolved in environments with venomous snakes
>There was no way to counter venom, bites from small, inconspicuous snakes could prove to be fatal
>In the earlier stages of primate evolution, human ancestors would be directly preyed on by snakes
>Human ancestors with the best ability to notice snakes in their environment are far more likely to survive than ones who are not
>Human ancestors with an irrational fear of snakes are also selected for
>Modern humans retain both of these traits
>>
>>5149636
Yeah Mr. Autism the point of that post is people associate snakes with poison but not the others thus the innate fear. I like snakes idgaf.

There is an exception to every rule, but an exception only proves an exception, not that there is no rule. Doubly so when the pic used is young, heavily domesticated specimen that has been bred to look and act tolerable to human sensibilities.

Meanwhile pic rel was the only specimen known to cultures in Europe because it was the most prevalent in nature across the region, then they went to the americas discovered there were snakes even worse than what they had back home.

I can believe that fear of snakes really is some primal evolutionary thing given that there really are a significant number of dangerous snakes, yes most of them aren't but still more than enough to be impactful.

With spiders however I don't buy it at all, there's like a single digit number of species worldwide that have ever been recorded actually killing someone.

thing about snakes and evolution is that it just makes sense to be careful of ALL snakes in general when you're as dumb as most people were for most of our history. A lot of times when a snake tags you it fucks off more or less immediately, and if you're a primitive grassland dweller that just got bit by a snake in a grassland and your best source of information is "what the oldest guy in your tribe can remember," the only way you're going to know if it was a dangerous snake or not is if you start dying, and even then a lot of venomous snakes dry bite as a warning.
Pic related, photographer was just pretty much sat there going "well I'm fucked" and waited to die but it just didn't happen, turns out the mamba didn't actually envenomate him. meanwhile a guy working at a venom research place in africa got bit, was in a coma within fifteen minutes and was dead in a few days.
>>
>>5149945
>>5149731
As for spiders you're more likely to just get a staph infection from the puncture wound more than anything else, which could certainly kill you back before antibiotics.

look up the cobra effect
tl;dr when the british empire colonized india they payed indians a sum for each head of a cobra they bring since they noticed it had become a threat to the people, killing civilians frequently. When indians saw they could make money from this, they started breeding cobras so they could just behead them and give to the british for quick cash. The cobras started to breed rapidly and they overwhelmed the indians, so the british stopped paying them when the fraud was revealed.

this is the most unthreatening snake of all, I think.
not even called a snake, we call it "copper lizard".
never seen it trying to strike ever. It just flees or gets run over by cars because somehow it gets stuck on asphalt
>>
>>5150174
In contrast, this viper, which does not hesitate to strike you if you get remotely close. Its poison can kill you if you're a child or with a weak heart. Loves to hang around berry bushes
>>
>>5150174
That’s probably because it’s a lizard, not a snake
>>5150181
>this viper, which does not hesitate to strike you if you get remotely close
They’re super reluctant to bite. Often times you can even get away with picking them up and they don’t do anything
>>
>>5149682

Close guess. I'm 34. Got those workin man hands and I was pretty dehydrated that day.
I found a nice pile of moist leaves to put him in while I finished up working. Didn't want to accidently chop him in half with the shovel
