I wish I got to see the Great Auk or Haast's eagle
>>
Dinosaurs and land crocs. It's a shame all we got out of that lineage are birds and modern crocs and alligators. Marine reptiles get an honorable mention too.

The extinction of Land Crocs is especially frustrating, since we were so close to seeing them.

I'm still upset.

youre also forgetting the giant dragon turtles of meiolania and that was only 2000 years ago because of abbos

Someone should make a documentary about the Steller's Sea Cow. And call it "27 years" because that's how long it took for them to go extinct after they were discovered by Europeans.

It's absolutely mind blowing to think this massive sloth was alive around 10,000 years ago. I feel like it's not talked about nearly enough...
>>
Speaking of animals no one talks about. Did you know there was an island cave goat called Myotragus balearicus, that might have been the only cold blooded mammal in history to exist? and it's also the only goat species to have front facing eyes? This is because it lived in the island caves for millions of years, and the cave habitat caused it to evolve similarly to how amphibians and reptiles have? Pretty cool right.

Anyway humans discovered it about 4,000 years ago and hunted them to death

yeah, for some reason the algorithm included that in my recommendations, in fact, lately I have seen so many stuff around here that suddenly pops up while I'm watching shorts and stuff like that. it's the government spying on me again? probably yes.
>>
>>5151696
1, it wasn't cold blooded, 2. it wasn't cave dwelling, it fed off boxwood, which needles to say, needs sunlight to grow.
The fact it ate boxwood is pretty cool though as boxwood is toxic.

Glyptodonts and Meiolaniids. Two shots at a modern day ankylosaur wasted.

The Sardinian Pika was the last member of an ancient lineage of lagomorphs that was somewhat related to modern pikas thought to have gone extinct around 2000 years ago, but may have persisted until the 1700s.
I guess it wouldn't be that special, but I'm annoyed that this lineage may have died out right before it would've become known to science.
>>5151739
Why were its eyes front facing then?
