Animalistically speaking, what are the consequences of piranhas being dumped in North American lakes?
Wouldn't they have the same ecological niche as the pike?
>>5151641Listen up liberal: if I want to buy an exotic species that I read about for all of 5 minutes on the Internet, find out I got too in over my head, and then dump them in the local fishing hole where it will devour all the native species and completely take over, then that's my God-given right.
>>5151641the lakes of north america are almost empty, we need to bring fish that can repopulate those lakes, piranha are very resilent, reproduce rapidly, taste okay and can live almost anywhere so they are a good choice way better than carps.
>>5151706How do they survive winters? I know fish are in water and all, but piranhas being in warm areas like the Amazon just feels like lasting winter should be a problem for them.
>>5151709people said the same about alligators and they just deal with it normally
>>5151709They took over a couple lakes in Colorado so I'm guessing they survive near freezing ok>>5151706The biggest problem vs carp is that piranhas will actually kill and eat people
>>5151716>The biggest problem vs carp is that piranhas will actually kill and eat peopleI see that more of a good thing than a bad thing, many problems of certain people going into rivers to contaminate them by dumping religious idols and shit will be solved really fast
>>5151718India?Not a lot of idols getting dumped in rivers in the US
>>5151718Third world areas usually do have shit like this. So I doubt it'd slow it down any. It didn't in the places they're coming from already. There's all sorts of crocodiles, hippos, bugs, etc., that fucking suck to live around on a daily basis.
>>5151724Yep tropical rivers have way worse things than piranhas in them
>>5151724then we should put cooler fish in them like gars
