Ecosystem destruction is merely an ecosystem changing. Extremely successful species will end up being the basis for future diversity. Cats, Dogs, Birds, Rats, all of these are spread wide enough that there will be a beautiful radiation of life that comes from these species in the future.

Many animals have better survival or reproductive success in urban areas because of food, warmth, shelter, and fewer predators. Obvious ones are rats and mice and pigeons. Less obvious ones are raccoons, foxes, coyotes, opossums, hedgehogs, squirrels, some bats. Probably more to this list, too.
