Were there any land animal in Hawaii prior to the Polynesians discovering the islands, or was it wholly populated by just bird and lizards that could fly/swim all that way into the middle of the Pacific?
>>5156516>populated by just bird and lizardsThere were birds, bats, insects, spiders, and snails. No lizards.>that could fly/swimYes, the spiders got there by ballooning.
>>5156516>Was it wholly populated by just bird and lizards that could fly/swim all that way into the middle of the Pacific?Yes.Everything there had flown or swam, though I suppose some stuff may have rafted there. There were birds (mostly ducks and rails) that had evolved flightlessness and effectively became land animals that couldn't leave the islands, but their ancestors had all flown there. There were no lizards on the islands at all, the only squamates were Sea Snakes.
>>5156521>>5156524No iguanas?
>>5156525Marine iguanas only exist on the Galapagos Islands.
>>5156524>though I suppose some stuff may have rafted thereI still can't wrap my head around some of this shit>be desert iguanas in mexico>somehow several individuals all get swept out to sea on the same piece of debris>float 6,000 miles without sinking>eventually land on a tropical island paradise>somehow enough of you survived months without freshwater and food to repopulate without being affected by inbreeding>eventually evolve arboreal morphology and look indentical to your distant relatives in the jungleThis shit doesn't even make sense. It can only explained by monkeys on a typewriter
