Who is the most terrifying terrestrial apex predator? My guess is it's between a polar bear and a tiger. So which one do you think it is?
>>
>>5164395
I thought stats wise it was a Hippopotamus.
>>
>>5164398
Not a predator
>>
>>5164398
elephants mog them to death
albeit not a predator, either
>>
In biology jargon herbivores are often called plant predators.

A predator is just an interaction where one living organism consumes all or part of another. Elephants are predators. Mosquitoes are micropredators. Venus flytraps are predators.
>>
However while herbivores are technically predators if they eat live plants, they're not generally apex predators in an ecological sense.

>The black-footed cat (Felis nigripes) has a hunting success rate of approximately 60%.

the most efficient hunting mammal.

Me.

Getting mauled by a polar bear is probably a worse experience but i the terrifying thing about tigers (and big cats in general) is how, if they really want to kill you, you are never going to see them until they are inches away from your neck

*But the terrifying thing
Fuck

>Dogs chasing a polar bear away from a weather station at Cape Chelyuskin, the northernmost point of mainland Russia.
Not that scary if they can be run out by a couple of dogs.
>>
>>5164903
Polar bears aren’t territorial at all and don’t like confrontation, but that’s still a really small bear
>>
>>5164417
Cute AF. House cats I get, but why are even wild cats extremely appealing to humans
>>
>>5164903
>>5164910
Probably a cub.

>t-t-they j-just don't l-like c-confrontation, t-that's all
>also it was j-just a heckin c-c-cub
>an adult would t-t-totally beat those s-stupid dogs
>w-why are you laughing
Holy bearcel cope. Face it. Bearcels lost while dogGODS won. Bigly.
>>

House cats are pudgier looking wildcats. Most of them are moggies and not smashed and slammed like Persians.

If you manage to get killed by a hippo or elephant, odds are you deserved it.
>>
>>5165064
for you
>>
Cats and canids try to kill fast so the victim doesn't thrash around, bears don't care so they eat you while you're still screaming in pain.
The dogfags in this thread should be ignored, I think they're pretending.
>>
>>5164406
That makes the term pretty pointless since literally everything is a predator in that sense.
>>
>>5165161
Aside from detrivores, scavengers, photosynthesizers, chemotrophs. Probably a few others I can't remember off the top of my head.

Then you have the gray areas. Are honeybees preying on flowers if flowers produce a non-living substance just for them to consume? What about mammals drinking milk?

Buy yeah, for the average child that doesn't think about things, the technical usage is probably pointless
>>
>>5165161
Are non-hunting humans predators?
>>
>>5165251
Are leaves fallen from trees still alive?
