We've avoided cutting our husky/German Sheppard slightly wolf dogs claws for years and its becoming a problem where shes almost hurting people and scratching stuff to a bad degree. Problem is she gets way skittish when we try and cut them and one groomer even refused to do it after her reaction. I dont have money for certain alternatives and im considering knocking her out with something or at least numbing her so I can get them off. Now that ive triggered the majority of this boards dog owners what are suggestions.
>>5167326Scratch board? You can buy one with a compartment or DIY it for cheap. Its just sandpaper on a board.
>>5167326Try a dremel style nail grinder. You should also work slowly towards desensitizing with lots of treats. Start by just letting her sniff the clippers and reward. Then move onto touching the clipper to her nails and if she doesn't freak reward. Then grab paw and touch clippers and reward. Go very slowly and eventually they should be chill. Never force it and be extremely careful to not clip the quick or you'll be back to step zero or worse.
>>5167332>Try a dremel style nail grinderthe problem with those is the electric motors usually have a high pitched noise that can spook the dog worse than just filing the nail down.
>>5167852Its really dependent on the dog and how you introduce the sound/experience. At the very least you have a fresh start woth the dremel so you can introduce it properly from the beginning.
>>5167866With me it was a cat, I tried to start when he was a kitten so he would get used to it, and he was just not interested in complying and I got torn up badly enough that I gave up.
I don't want to sound rude, but how's this possible, for the breed you said it is? I have a shepherd dog, she is at home during the day because we dont have a garden, but we walk around 10km a day and thus she never had problem with her nails, because they scratch on the ground and get consumed. I only have to cut her "thumbs" but that's it.
>>5167326>husky owner>irresponsible retard incapable of training or grooming said dogTits or gtfo lmao
>>5168011Objection: Most huskies are untrained. And not for lack of trying. That's kinda what you're in for.
>>5168012That's just a cope by failed owners who should have bought a dog better suited for beginners rather than a working dog, believing that they'd get the quirky chungus dog from their fantasies.
