Dog passed away this morning, it could not have happened at more unfortunate time and place. Me and my mother were taking her to the vet to get lab tests done on her urine.(my mother is too weak to carry her out of the car) The minute she walked in the vet waiting room, she pee’d and collapsed on her side, breathing heavily with her legs jerking. 10-15 minutes later, she was passing away in the operating room with my mother comforting her, telling her it’s okay to not hold on anymore. It happened so fast compared to out past dog, this time the decision for when she was going to go was not ours. She was going blind, her appetite massively decreased in the last few months, her legs were getting weak and she needed arthritis medication. She was a very sick old dog who was holding on for us, and the whole event with her collapsing just when we arrived at the vet was like God intervening. I am thankful for being there to comfort my mother. I am thankful that she was surrounded by love when she left and that I got to say goodbye. I am thankful that if there was any pain, it was short lived. The selfish part of me is also thankful that I have less responsibility.
