I'm disappointed that there's no thread for these retarded little dudes. Sure, they die after two or three years and they are are totally unprepared for domesticated life, but as long as they have a decent sized enclosure and you give them enough enrichment (substrate to dig in, quality food including nits and seeds they get to wear their incisors down opening, and some quality exploration time out of their enclosure) they make good tiny companions. Also, you're saving them from being a toy for some foid or a small child that cannot understand their tiny world.

Hamster fondness feels like something that must be not entirely uncommon here. Of course, maybe I'm wrong and just suck cocks (entirely possible,)

i'd share ham but I can't find photos of my previous hamsters and I don't have space for a good enclosure right now.

Why do you like/dislike hamsters? You will be judged.

I liked them because they were cute and I was fascinated with their behaviour. I had two Robo hamsters, one who i loved and the other, liked but died too soon. I disliked them though because I found interaction difficult to build up. When i scared my first ham accidentally, she kept biting me and that never changed. But i still fed and engaged, just with garden gloves. I miss them both though.

I've never had Robos (or, as I like to call them, 'Rovskis) but every time I see them awake and burning off energy in the pet store my brain wants to explode from the adorkableness.

I've had around a dozen hamsters over the years, 2/3rd Syrian hamsters and 1/3rd Campbell's dwarfs (usually called "Russian dwarf hamsters" but that's not their real name.) Campbell's dwarfs are arable but kind of bitey, and they need about the same space as a Syrian hamster. They're great little critters, but you can't always really interact with them although the amount of enjoyment they get out of some deep sawdust and maybe a couple of decent tunnel networks is really rewarding.

Syrian hamsters make great little companions though. Sure, the females can be a little bit cage territorial sometimes and the males can be a bit extra derpy, but they're chill and enjoy actually hanging out. They can recognise your voice and some can even recognise their names. A good rodent, all things considered. Big fan of 'em.

Also, the weird faces they make when yawning and the way they go between treating every stimulus as the most dramatic thing ever one moment to being completely unfazed by anything is inherently likeable. Good fellas.
