If you found someone like Tarzan would it be ethical to keep him as a pet? Is he an animal?
>>
Doesn't he end up speaking fluent English at some point in the books, I forget whether he stops speaking like a caveman in the movie though
>>

parrots can speak english though, and monkeys can communicate in ASL.

Wait I know there's cats with like
>various sponge board things you can link together like a puzzle
>different buttons on them that say different words
>"no" "food" "angry" etc
>aside from some hiccups it works surprisingly well
except that might be an exception because cats keep people as pets
Speaking of book-related master/slave "is it human" relationships, iirc part 3 of Gulliver's Travels is one where horses are the masters and people are the animals and it was really off-putting, I assume it was a metaphor for slavery (and that it's bad)
But I guess define "pet" though, is it a friend you care for and love, or is it closet to a slave kept for entertainment
Is it ethical to enslave Tarzan? Don't they enlist him in the fucking French secret service or something?

>But I guess define "pet" though, is it a friend you care for and love, or is it closet to a slave kept for entertainment
Whatever the common definition of "pet" is where you live. Around me, they don't refer to their dogs as "slave" but maybe it's the same.
>Is it ethical to enslave Tarzan? Don't they enlist him in the fucking French secret service or something?
That was after he got turned into a real human

>Whatever the common definition of "pet" is where you live.
I'd have to ask the next time I'm working out at the library
>Around me, they don't refer to their dogs as "slave" but maybe it's the same.
I want Jane to enslave me but I get what you mean
I sometimes do feel bad about domesticated animals, like I'm sure army dogs and war horses share close bonds with their masters and are happy to help, but I feel bad that we've taken otherwise peaceful and safe animals and had/have them put their lives on the line

>That was after he got turned into a real human
So then there's a point where you can't keep him as a pet, even though it sounds like the government did so anyway
>>

we are all pets of israel at the end of the day
>>

>go into a pet general
>expect photos of cats and dogs and the occasional oddity like a flamingo or something
>it's just a /soc/ thread where we post photos of ourselves
Sad
>>
>>5169598
they just mimic, they don't understand.
>>
>>5169596
This sounds gay and therefore unethical. What meaningful difference does this have from having a retarded friend, except now you’re obligated to care for them since they’re your pet?
>>
>>5169597
He was raised by gorillas. He starts speaking English later but he doesn't become civilized overnight. He's still less than human.
>>
>>5169668
retarded people are also kept like pets, good point.
>>
>>5169699
why?
>>
>>5169753
He doesn't know about human rights, if someone were to catch a tarzan and keep him in a cage he wouldn't understand why it was wrong
>>
>>5169755
But you and most other people do.

Wait so when does become human, if ever
>>
>>5169806
getting cucked by Jane at the end was a very human experience
>>
>>5169809
Ok but enough about you'reself
>>

That happens pretty early on. Tarzan is a British aristocrat, immortal, has discovered like twenty lost cities and also keeps a lion as a pet. He's even traveled through time and space in continuation novels. There's not much he hasn't done.
>>
>>5169920
>immortal
Wait what
You can't keep an immortal as a pet
You can't even keep one in general
Or as an admiral
>He's even traveled through time and space in continuation novels.
Nigga (non-pet, affectionate), you are describing at least a minor god
What is happening
>>
>>5169920
Isn't the whole appeal that he's a semi-human wild man? What were they thinking?
>>
Never read or watched Tarzan. My understanding is only through what I’ve seen online. Do they explain why a baby raised by chimps can speak English or doesn’t die of the hundreds of diseases that monkeys go through?
>>
>>5169987
He learned to read from books left on the island during the crash, when he met Jane he knew how to write but not how to speak.
>>
>>5169990
How the fuck did he learn how to read? It doesn’t come out of thin air, you don’t learn from actual novels or books. There’s a reason babies and children learn English from simple words to increasingly complex ones.
>>
>>5170002
He is characterized as being a genius despite his humble beginnings. There was a baby book or something that taught letters or whatever as well.
>>
>>5170002
Maybe monkeys are just really good at teaching humans English
>>
>>5170002
in the disney movie he is taught english by the girl, he is motivated bcs he wants to fuck
