what is the best amphibian and why is it the the true toad?
the amerimutt toad and fowlers toad rape whatever amphibian you're thinking of.

>American toads, scientifically known as Anaxyrus americanus, are the most widespread toad species in North America. They are commonly found in various habitats, including forests, gardens, and urban areas.

Physical Characteristics
>Size: Typically grow to about 2 to 3.5 inches in length.
>Skin: Warty skin that can produce a poisonous secretion for defense.
>Color: Usually brown, but can also be olive, gray, or red with light patches. Their bellies are typically white or yellow.

Habitat and Behavior
>Geographic Range: Found throughout North America, from northern Mexico to Canada.
>Habitat Preferences: Require semi-permanent freshwater ponds for breeding and dense vegetation for cover.
>Diet: Primarily feed on insects, worms, and other invertebrates.

Reproduction & Breeding Details
>Breeding Season: Occurs from March to July, depending on the location.
>Eggs: Females lay between 4,000 to 12,000 eggs in long strands in water.
>Hatching: Eggs hatch in 3 to 12 days, and tadpoles undergo metamorphosis in about 5 to 10 weeks.

Life Cycle
>Metamorphosis: Tadpoles transform into toadlets, which are about 0.8 to 1.3 cm long at emergence.
>Maturity: American toads reach sexual maturity in 2 to 4 years.

Ecological Role
>American toads play a crucial role in their ecosystems by controlling insect populations, thus contributing to the balance of their habitats. They are also known for their distinctive calls during the breeding season, which can be heard on warm evenings in spring and summer.

Total toad victory. Burmate well, my little frens. See you in spring.

Porch and solar lights are a great way to feed toads. Moths and other bugs will tire themselves out from smashing into the light and land within easy reach of your toad friends.

i wont be able to see these fellas for months now and that deeply saddens me

awesome advice.
there is a pond (its more like a drainage ditch to be fair) in my neighbourhood and there are loads and loads of toads there all spring and summer long. my herping frens and i walk there almost every night during summer, and our record amount is seeing 34 in one night.
i would love to have my little frens at my house though, seeing as i only spot a few each season outside my house.
your advice will absolutely be taken into account come next spring.

I found 2 toads in May, a boy and a girl
I've been lonely and I sometimes only talk to my toads, I vowed they would never leave my side
I gave them all the bugs, I love them like I have never loved a toad before
I foraged bugs for them every day like a momma bird
But then last week the boy started looking a little frail. I've fed him more and more worms with tears in my eyes trying to make his cold little belly bigger
I accepted if he would not make it through winter, at least he would go peacefully in his sleep
But I look at him now and I know he will be gone before winter and he is not eating anymore ;_; You say that can be normal, but I'm looking at him and I know it's the end. I know he is going fast and he just looks different. I don't know what is wrong and there are no exotic vets here.
I love you like I've never loved a being before, my Tubby boy.

Do they really need to be fed often? I thought toads were fed once or twice a week.

And yes, you need to breed the bugs for the toads yourself. Bugs caught outside might carry diseases or parasites that could harm a toad.

You could always ask an AI. Take some photos, describe the situation in detail, and ask the AI. Or, send the photos and the description here.

I started trying not to sob. I actually had to stop reading and close that.
I will read this when I calm down.
He's tried to eat today, without much interest. I can hear him flicking his tongue at something once or twice but I'm too upset to watch him.

Combined, the two toads put away enough bugs this summer to fill at least a 5-gallon bucket.
It was how I kept myself busy and outdoors in the evenings.
Bugs as big as 1 or 2 huge crayfish or locusts almost daily, too.
