Activists are frequently retarded
But legitimate shit gets continuously destroyed without any activism
You could bring some of your own intelligence to activism and make it better if you felt like it. That would be helpful since, like I said, activists are so frequently retarded. The environment has to have a right to exist and lines have to be drawn somewhere or people with money and power who -really- don’t give a fuck will eat everything alive.

I guess my point was that it’s always imprudent to shit down on people doing the job you don’t want to do yourself.
Important shit gets destroyed without activism?
But activists unfortunately have a propensity for being mercurial and retarded?
Well, go do the job better or shut the fuck up about it. I’d rather have dumb/annoying/frequently-incorrect activists who at least put pressure on the gov/corps not to destroy everything than to just let it happen as a way of “owning the tards”
Owning the tards is never important because most people are fucking stupid but the smart people still have to live here anyway. Retards never learn lessons and as the smarter of humanity (if you are in that group), it is literally your responsibility to protect the retards as well as protecting important things from retards. Fucking fix it or shut up holy hell, ya know?

Whenever an animal goes extinct in the present age it's almost always because nothing was done until they were fucked beyond saving. The vaquita for example is probably doomed. They were at around 600 in 1997, we knew they were probably in trouble by around the early 2000s when they dropped under 200 but did nothing. Since then they dropped to around 10.

The loss is sad. It's sad people don't have enough control over their systems to prevent other species from dying. These excuses in your post are meant to keep your heart hard and resist despairing. Companies are not doing the objectively right thing. Are activists describing the objectively right thing to do that would convince these massive companies to change? Making money off of saving the environment looks like the only win-win solution. I wonder if AI can calculate that, and if businesses would take these solutions and apply them.

>>5171595
Denying reality is delusion. I have my personal hopes. I am not pessimistic for myself. But for the environment, we have to be realistic about these things.
>>
Most animals go extinct because humans think they can preserve everything with religious devotion to what they believe is untouched nature while still EXISTING.

It is a contradiction. You can not exist, and not change the world.

Ironically most of what we believe is "REAL NATURE" used to be managed ecosystems from prior humans that were already dying off when we found them

A great example:
Caribou and elk will go extinct in your lifetime. Wolves will not. This is because humans tried to preserve wolves, but forgot that you literally can't log or build roads because large deer require continuous swaths of forest to evade wolves. You can't have civilization, wolves, and large cervids. You must pick two.

If you try to pick all 3 you also have to introduce nuisance/danger levels of large ursids and felids to control wolf overpopulation and make the environment legitimately hostile to human life.

Or, you could just have civilization and manage a nice deer population with a few cool bears and big cats to look at.

Because anything humans do is LE BAD!!!!! (except for natives, they were wholesome chungus stewards of the land). We should get rid of all the cattle and let it regrow into an overgrown mess of second growth forest that is ecologically worthless but it looks good because more trees = more better.

>>5171574
No shit, you won't ever get an truly natural ecosystem because farmers won't let any other large mammals compete or hunt with their cattle, but you are a literal retard if you think your soibean and corn fields that completely replace everything are better. You will find plenty of wildflowers and snakes and birds in pastures that actually do better there because they require open disturbed areas.
There are actual issues such as overgrazing and cows eroding and shitting in rivers but this is the best we can get as far as humans and nature coexisting.

>but you are a literal retard if you think your soibean and corn fields that completely replace everything are better
I mean they literally objectively are better because they require less area for the same productivity compared to cattle so if you wanted to increase biodiversity that would leave more room for wild environments

not gonna say we have to ban meat or whatever, but it's an objective truth that cattle are pretty inefficient and wasteful

It won't be truly wild because still nobody would want to live with large potentially dangerous predators and farmers wouldn't want herbivores that destroy their crops. It would just be more second growth forest with nothing bigger than a squirrel.

You guys always go "but its natural" and then discount how these extinctions and other issues are happening many times faster or more critically than before. The other anon was right, nobody cares about a problem unless it is at their doorstep to personally trouble them.
>>
>>5172183
"Happening faster" according to what metric?
The current mass extinction has been ongoing since the end of the last ice age around 10,000 years ago. If you look at things by that metric, all is normal.
But if you look at things at a metric of "but these extinctions shouldn't be happening, look at the damage being done", then everything in the past 10,000 years is somehow abnormal.

It all stems from a refusal to accept that humanity is in a sense a natural phenomena by itself. The human species has begun to reshape ecological biomes and niches. Species adapt to these changes, or go extinct. In another 10,000 years we'll see even more extreme change, not just from humans negatively impacting species but also spreading life to other planets. And that, from the perspective of life on Earth, will be a good thing. A huge opportunity. A huge challenge as well, Mars isn't exactly hospitable, but under human guidance the process of colonizing Mars with life is likely to go relatively smoothly.
>>
>>5172184
The common meaning of "natural" excludes what is made by humans or other sapient beings such as possible aliens or magical beings that might exist. If you just treat "natural" as meaning anything that actually exists then the word has no use. And even then, evolution isn't perfect nor does it try to be. Natural processes turn destructive all the time.

As conscious beings, humans are able to control ourselves to avoid as much harm as possible yet people want to say this is not an inherent responsibility, at the same time pushing for indolence as though still merely animals who can't or don't know better. Extinction is normal, but even so it is known that humans have directly or indirectly exterminated a lot of species that would not have gone extinct otherwise.

Humans are natural. All of our behaviors are thousands of years old. You just conflate "technology like railroads" with completely natural things like "humans altering their environment to better suit their needs".
The planet is covered with "artificial" natural ecosystems. The Great Plains in North America and the moors of the UK are both examples. One was created to preserve Bison hunting grounds, one was created wholesale by sheep grazing.
But I'm sure that means that they were both created by robots or something.
