OMG... a real Jurassic Park is happening.>In a study published today in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), an international team of paleontologists confirmed the presence of intact biomolecules and mineralized red blood cells inside fossils of a 115-million-year-old dinosaur. Although previous work has suggested similar possibilities, the team’s research is the first to chemically identify oxygen-carrying blood compounds known as heme.https://www.popsci.com/science/first-dinosaur-blood-fossil-discovery/

>>5172750>red blood cellsdo not contain a nucleus nor gene-encoding dnastill a very cool discovery though
>>5172800Avian blood cells are nucleated. Mammals are unique in the aspect that they lose their nucleus.
>>5172750the dna half life wouldve gone through 700 cycles already, anything past 1 cycle is pretty fucked for dna specifically, you really cant fill in the blanks when half of it is gone, and past 10 cycles its nonexistent, youre at less than 0.1% left
>>5172814Couldn't you get billions of samples, each one having a little DNA left, and run the data through a supercomputer to fill in the gaps?
>>5172750Will this settle the feather debate?
>>5172750>mineralizedNothingburger
>>5172800>do not contain a nucleus nor gene-encoding dnayes they do? are you fucking retarded? did you fail 10th grade biology?
>>5172750Nothing ever happens
>>5172819Bioinformatics does exactly that but with that little DNA and no abundance of samples the margin of error is just too big. Also handling DNA itself isn't easy if any contaminant is a billionfold more abundant. Especially if the samples have been subject to millions of years of environmental contamination beforehand. There just isn't any chance of recovering any useful information. On top of that no one would be willing to fund such a project.
