If you're born in the 90s like me but most of your culture/lifestyle was 2000s, do you ever miss it to the point that you want to go back? I make it sound simple because it actually is. You can drop everything produced post-2010 right now and live a normal life. The difference being you'll live a life of pure bliss. Not having to worry about constantly needing new technology, keeping up on the latest current events, partaking in the latest trends or having to consume the latest media. What's stopping you from selling that smartphone and downgrading to a dumbphone only used for calls? What's stopping you from selling that 4K tv and downgrading to a 2000s plasma tv or CRT? What's stopping you from only watching 2000s media and playing 2000s games? The answer is you hold onto the newest things because you want to fit in and be accepted, whereas I hold onto the past because I have genuine appreciation for my nostalgia. I have so much appreciation that I can't just leave it there. I won't let them become just memories. Those nights in the mid-2000s where I stayed up at night watching Adult Swim, only to fall asleep then wake up past midnight to the end credits of Inuyasha or Boondocks. The days I was playing Mario Sunshine and Sonic Heroes in my room, the lights turned off and the AC on and I have a blanket over my shoulder. When I'd be playing Ragnarok Online on my computer while on the tv next to me have Top Gear or Ruthless Aggression era WWE on. I treat my memories of different time periods like physical embodiments of people. I've only really lived through three different eras. The 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. The 2000s I love, the 2010s have its ups and downs, and the 2020s I could do without. Now imagine you've lived with people you felt the same way about and you have to pick which person to live with forever. You'd obviously choose the one you love, right? Don't leave those memories behind anons. Live them, and leave behind everything else.
>>952542785I wish it were that simple OP
>>952543131I don't see what's not simple about it. The only thing holding you back is your subconscious mind.
>>952542785Windows 2000 may have been the best operating system MS ever made. I tried to keep using it as long as I could, but I kept running into problems trying to use the internet:If you keep using old browsers that work on Windows 2000, you get blocked by many sites on the internet, and even if you manage to get on youtube, they are using codecs today not supported by the old browsers, so you can't play most videos. If you try upgrading your browser, you get an error saying the newer browsers don't work on Windows 2000.Plus windows 2000 never came out with a 64 bit version needed to access today's larger disk drives.Windows 11 is such a nightmare of spying, while making lots of existing hardware obsolete, that many former Win10 users switched to Linux instead of Win11, pic related.
>>952543721Yeah I think the solution to that is we'd still have to use modern operating systems but if you want to still be a nostalgiabro then just use sites that were made in the 2000s. I guess you could just use Linux and customize it to look like Windows 2000 if that's possible to do on Linux.
>>952543892>then just use sites that were made in the 2000sYoutube dates back to the 2000s, but it's not a static site so you can't use it with an old browser.
>>952544047are there any vanilla-style forums you know of that might be a viable option?
>>952544422Here's a wayback machine capture of abovetopsecret.com forum from 2000. Things like this may be the best I can do. That forum did some major upgrades over the years, and the site finally died a few years ago when Google made forums like that unprofitable by steering ads away from those forums.Wayback browsing can be fun, but we have so many updates since then, that the information is so obsolete as to be useless, except for historical reference.
>>952542785>do you ever miss it to the point that you want to go backWell your idea sounds good. Especially the part of throwing away your smartphone and 4k Ultra HD TV. I went through 2025 without any phone tbh not even a dumbphone. Life was wat easier. No more checking news while eating toast. No more late night jacking off in bed to porn sites. No more anonymous call from numbers from central asia or india. But that doesn't change the society globally. It was hell of a train ride everyday, because 90% of passengers are looking on their phone. Teenagers playing rapmusic in public from their phone speakers. People reaching out for their phone threaten to call the police. I just felt like I don't fit in anymore. When I was at home, it was the same. Sister on her phone all the time. When my brother came, he was talking to his girlfriend for 2 hours so everyone could hear it and afterwards he was all calm and smiling but if I asked him if he wants to do something together he got angry and told me he is only here for the weekend and needs his alone time. Ok thanks for the talk. I think especially older generation don't want to go back. They have their bank account, their birthday calender, their contacts and their husband all on access everytime eveywhere. The last time I could talk to them and have a nice conversation was about 5 or 6 years ago, when me and my fiance came for dinner (almost) every sunday. Now something funnt that happend recently. Last thursday I was sitting in my room, listening to music and noticed I grab my phone every 2 minutes and unlock it. So I decided to turn it off. After some time I think that's not enough, I still see it and look at it every 2 minutes. So I decided to hide it somewhere. The night goes on, I feel good. Around midnight I think it's time for bed. Look for my phone. It's not there where I last remember seeing. Took me one hour to stop searching for it. The next day I remembered the exact place I hid it just after waking up.
>>952544047Right but I'd think any anons considering going full 2000s wouldn't even want to use youtube and if they did, only watched stuff released pre-2010 which there still are a lot of videos. Sadly the culture of old youtube is long gone. >>952544422Alternatively there's a new trend of people creating sites that are meant to be reminiscent of 2000s-style forums. Off the top of my head I can think of gamedate which is a place to organize lobbies for older multiplayer games and a site called friendrewind which is like myspace and other 2000s forums put together. Problem with friendrewind is it's full of zoomers who never really lived through the 2000s, they just like the aesthetic of that era.
>>952545782>Teenagers playing rapmusic in public from their phone speakers. People reaching out for their phone threaten to call the police. There has to be some implications on society over time when it's been so normalized to instantly record something or someone. It definitely fucked us up because I think average everyday people have some kind of paranoia about being recorded and put on the internet because they might've done something "cringe" even though it was really small and insignificant. It didn't feel like that before smartphones. You could dress how you like or behave a certain way without someone taking pics/recording you and putting on the internet to try and embarrass you. Now we have to dress and act the approved™ way otherwise you're cringe and weird. But yeah about the smartphone thing and constantly checking it. I don't even talk to anyone besides my brother and he lives with me. I'm expecting calls from people and I don't have social media but I still feel the need to look on my phone, especially when I'd go take a shit and felt like I needed something to occupy me while pooping. It was tiktok and all I'd be doing is scrolling. I uninstalled it and started taking these old 2000s game informer magazines in the bathroom with me.
>>952542785this is AI right? It's pretty good AI. Why do I wanna be there so bad?
>>952546446You realize how comfy it would be to have a room with the view of a city while the room itself is full of 2000s stuff
The neat thing about living your nostalgia is how cheap everything is and will become. You can buy a PS2 for $20 and jailbreak it easily. Or you can just have a PC and play nothing but emulated and pirated 2000s games which is also easy to do. All your movies and tv shows are easily abled to be found for free too.
Two years ago I bought a $70 1TB SSD that I've used for games, but then started using it for movies and animes. Storage started getting low so I went to go buy another one a month ago, the same SSD was now $140. Luckily a different brand next to it was $130 and this was 2TB so I got that. These fucking storage device prices are going up.
>>952543570Its not that simple because ysing a bunch of old obsolete shit doesnt mean you are living in the 2000s again....
>>952547423If you drastically changed your environment, everything in your surrounding to match what the 2000s looked like. You stopped using everything made post-2010. You stop speaking and dressing the same way people today speak and dress. Mentally and physically you are in the 2000s. Your perception is your reality. Your home and your mind are one. When you walk out the door, you are living in everyone else's reality but it's not YOUR reality.
>>952547678until you interact with *anything* at all. then, suddenly, you are once again in 2026, interacting with a system of private equity owned pretend-businesses who raped your parents to death, you are working for slavery wages for a man/demigod who got rid of your favorite game studios because it made economic sense to rape you, all to afford food that you would have called cattle feed in 2005, knowing you will NEVER be able to provide the life your parents gave you to any child you might one day have. then you get home and that old GE alarm clock or that gamecube emulator on a CRT screen don't mean so much anymore
>>952547941Well yeah that's a separate issue. There are ways to overcome wageslavery, like saving up to live an off-grid self-sufficient life. Buy some cheap land somewhere if you're lucky enough to find it (usually you have to go out of city), buy a cheap RV or trailer and park it on the land. Get some solar panels for electricity. The only hurdle would be water and food but I suppose you can hunt for food or go into town every once in a while to get free food from pantries. There'd be property taxes but in the right state that's less than $1000 a year. Internet would be the only major thing you'd have to pay for if you decide to get it but it can work with starlink.

>>952547678>When you walk out the door, you are living in everyone else's reality but it's not YOUR reality.Sooner or l8er this will become a problem. Imagine it's like moving to a foreign country on your own. Maybe you migrate from germany to canada. Because you're german your english is not the beste and you don't understand a single word of french. In your home you listen to german radio and watch news from germany. You don't improve your skills on english or try to learn some words in french. After some time staying home and consuming only german media, the world outside will feel like another planet. You don't understand what people are saying, they're acting strange in public from your point of view and when you go to the store there are serious understandig issues with the person behind the counter. Doesn't sound like the dream. But I get the idea of nostalgic feelings and bringing back that 2000s look. Having a pin board in your room, sending postcards from holiday and using an analog camera, that way you don't know how a picture you take, will look, right after you took it. Just think about it, the first thing a group that's taking a group photo does, is, looking at how it turned out. Then back to the party lel
>>952548771No there is an escape. You're either a blackpilled loser or demoralizing kike. The reason you don't see many people taking that escape is because they WANT to live in the fucked up system. The NPC meme is real. They want to not own anything. They want to pay a subscription every month. They want to interact on social media all day about the dumbest culture war shit. Then they wonder why they're depressed and are on SSRIs. In other words, they want to stay in the matrix. >>952548931I don't think it'll be that bad. You'll still have to step out your house to go to work for however many hours a day and you'll most likely be well accustomed to whatever new bullshit has been introduced to the world. There's not going to be a point where you're in your 2000s house and you suddenly walk out to a cyberpunk 2077 world without realizing it changed. You'll probably also still want to talk to your friends and family who want to stay in the current world, so they'll fill you in on what's happening if you're actually curious about it.
Here's what I did today. Played some PS2 emulated game on my laptop, specifically Outrun 2006 and Ape Escape 3. I had downloaded some old WWE broadcast from the 2000s from Internet Archive and had that playing on a Panasonic Viera next to me. Later on I'm gonna get some pizza hut while I play Guild Wars and have Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex playing on the tv. All of these things came out in the 2000s. I could do this every day and not get bored or feel like I want current year shit.
>>952544422Tons but nobody uses them. That's the problem with RETVRNing to the 00s, back then everyone else was living like that too
>>952549865Check out friendrewind if you can tolerate zoomers. You can customize the fuck out of your profile. Have custom background, music that plays on your profile. Has a forum and blog section.
>>952548336>There are ways to overcome wageslavery, like saving up to live an off-grid self-sufficient life. The youtuber Loyal Moses claims "they" are doing whatever they can to ban off-grid living. There is at least some truth to his claims. I'm not sure if he's completely off-grid, or just working toward that.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ReQHlBmkjA
>>952551038Oh yeah they're definitely scared of most Americans discovering the off-grid lifestyle. To the extent that I believe they send out bots dissuading the average person from living off-grid, telling them "it won't work" and trying to list off all the downsides of it like they outweigh being a fucking wageslave for the rest of your life. Funnily enough the more they try to ban shit the more people will just find a way around it and the outcome will be that said banned thing will actually be easier to do. Or people will just straight up not give a shit out of spite and skip doing things the legal way because you never know if that legal way will become illegal in the future. For example the past few months there's been an RV parked under a bridge close to me. Hasn't been moved, haven't seen law enforcement tell them they have to move. Know for a fact they didn't purchase the land under that bridge because they can't.
>>952551601This is also the real reason why I think they came up with flock cameras. They want to document people leaving the city and see if they try to set up somewhere innawoods without buying the land. The biggest offense you can do to the government is not pay taxes.
>>952551601>the past few months there's been an RV parked under a bridge close to meWhat if there are feds living in it, spying on you?
>>952552717That would explain why nobody made it move.

>>952546446>Controller plugged into memory card slot>Pretty goodHoly fuck
>>952546832That's not a good thing. Part of what makes modern life shit is the super abundance of media and choice. It devalues everything. You have such strong nostalgia for the 90s and early 2000s because everything was more limited, you had to wait for it, you had to pay for it, you had to stick with it. You were more invested and you spent more time with it. That makes stronger memories.
>>952542785Let me guess: you're still attracted to underage girls too?
>>952542785Is that a BBC bathhouse?
>>952542785Hi op. I was born in 80, grew up in the 90s. I saw the last era of living and breathing outside like magnificent animals replaced by childhood dopamine machines and the connection to the early internet. I embraced it early on but watched it corrode society at a psychological level over the deacades. You're the first generation of it, still innocent enough to remember a time before the corporate tentacles breached everything and total social media rot had set in, but devoid of the experience of time before the technology existed. Most of those after us are stuck in a fabricated reality beyond anything radio or TV had ever accomplished and it's terrifying to see it in contrast to what general perspectives used to be like when I was a kid.
>>952553649>Most of our problems could go away if we had the ability to just feel a different way at will, or not at all. What if you were told you do have that ability? Is it really so hard to believe that you can control your own body and mind? Or is it that you know you can, but things around you have better control over you than you do yourself?>>952553789I mean I get what you're saying. Back then at a certain point I was a bit of a poorfag. Barely had games for the consoles I had and the consoles I had were a generation behind. Still had basic cable tv at a certain point so only had limited channels. Even when you get better cable, you still have to put up with ads and not being able to watch what you want at will like you can today. But I don't think those memories are defined by what I didn't have, just like I don't think my life right now is defined by what I do have. I'm way better of wealth-wise than I was as a kid and teenager and I can buy whatever I want at this point, but I can objectively say the 2000s was a better time. So if I can objectively say that, why should I continue living in the current reality when I can mold my own and go back?
>>952554465If external factors have more control over me, that is still an internal inability to change that, which itself demonstrably cannot be changed by me by will. It's not really complicated, unless you're a child, or think talking with a child's simplicity is somehow profound. If I hold you hand over a fire you cannot just decide not to feel pain anymore. If you child dies, you can't just decide to not be sad about, unless you're an actual sociopath.
>>952554147No. Just because I want to go back doesn't mean I want to be a kid again. If anything back then when I was a kid I was jerking off to my middle school and high school teachers. But since you brought up pedophilia, do you remember how in the 2000s almost everyone would joke about pedobear and boku no pico? No one thought anyone was weird or a pedo for it but for some reason we've reached such hysteria that mentioning stuff like that can get you "cancelled". Why did it get like this?
Bring back saying 'Rape.'it’s based.
>>952554601The change comes after experiencing it for the first time. If you hold my hand over a fire, yes I will feel pain in that moment. That experience will teach me not to let someone hold my hand over fire.
>>952554807Well that's not what you're talking about, but also you're dumb as fuck if you needed to be taught that lesson. And, unsurprisingly, you didn't address the second example. Can you just decided to not be sad about something tragic that happens to you. You are going to have to admit you're a retard edgy teenager or double down on this and become an even bigger retard edgy teenager.
>>952555023>Can you just decided to not be sad about something tragic that happens to you.Well yeah, YOU can. You can decide to not feel bad if you want. Whether you should or not is irrelevant. If someone else is a sociopath how does that affect you personally? Maybe use a better analogy, because if your entire point hinges on "erm well acktually you can't control your thoughts" but then say "uhh well you can but if you do you're a sociopath" then you don't have a really good point.
>>952554732Notice how everything gets worse because of women
>>952555023>complains about being an edgy teenager>on 4chan>on /b/lol
>>952555320So your advice is "just be a sociopath bro"Edgy teenage cunt. Fuck off and kill yourself, down syndrome chimp
>>952555541>Notice how everything gets worse because of womenthem being members of society, and not just used as sex slaves, tends to pussify everything, until everything just fucking sucks
>>952555642Because of the analogy you used, yeah. But when it comes to the topic of this thread and purposely molding your own perception of reality, in other words being "delusional" then by all means just be delusional if it makes your life better.
The thing about sociopaths is, they're not really self-aware of the fact that they're sociopaths. They're aware of the intellectual differences between right and wrong and know that some actions can lead to consequences, but they think those consequences don't apply to them. Morality is something they don't understand or comprehend. They can fake it, sure. You can't really "force" yourself to be a sociopath because if you understand that a person who is clinically a sociopath lacks morality and you understand that's a bad thing, then you're no true sociopath.
Don't have much to contribute besides finding comfort in others feeling the same. Probably the only reason I still return to this godforsaken place even though it's very much a shadow of its former self- just one of the last places from back then that's even really still around in some capacity.
>>952556648Imagine if there was an entire board here dedicated to only talking about things pre-2010 and generally having to speak like someone would back then. The other is a Panasonic Viera which came out in 2009, perfect for watching stuff on for nostalgia value and also has a built-in media player but for limited file types. If I can find a way to put anything on my Panasonic Viera without using a DVD player, or connecting my SSD to a laptop and connecting my laptop to the tv, then I'd be set up.

>"If you're born in the 90s like me but most of your culture/lifestyle was 2000s"dawg shut the fuck up just say "if your childhood was mostly 2000s stuff"god you fucking zoomers hate millennials but you want the millennial clout of being born before 2000 SO BAD. you hate to say youre a zoomer but dont want to say you were born post 2000. you fucking runts are ruining 2000s era shit with bullshit opinions like "linkin park was the best nu metal band ever" like fuck off you were 6 when frutiger aero was at its peak. you barely remember it but act like its the coolest shit of all time.you like adventure timego suck a fucking dog cock you dont know what's coolattitude era > ruthless aggressionyou only like aggression because you were maybe 2 when ruthless aggression ended. i remember DX and WCW. suck iti wager im maybe 5-7 years older than you, i experienced all the ripe shit of the 90s and early 2000s full blast.i got to experience video games became 3D and finished HS just as facebook and reddit and all that dogshit started to become the main focus of the internet.i had the best childhood and even i dont want to do this dumb shit you speak ofget rid of my smartphone? watch ONLY 2000s era shit on a CRT? holy fucking LARP.sure i have nostalgia for shit like that too. there's nothing stopping me from watching my x-files special features on DVD on a CRT and also enjoying modern tech too.you can do both. get a retro room or something and immerse yourself when you want but attempting to live a fully 2000s era lifestyle is cringe. especially with you early zoomers that jerk off to limp bizkit, wallet chains, JNCO jeans, and whatnot.sorry but i just love rubbing it in y'alls faces. must be such a shitty confusing time to have grown up. you cant remember 9/11 but you try to act like you were sentient then. you dont wanna fit in with the younger ipad babies zoomers. understandably so. sucks to be you. do your thing but stop giving true 90s kid millennials BS
you were maybe 2 when attitude era ended*hurrr
I wish I was dead lol
