Why should you buy physical books over an e-reader? Likewise, why should you buy an e-reader over physical books?
>>953321559E-readers are garbage. Just use a prepaid phone, but I digress.>e-reader over physicalYou can fit more books on one device than you could fit in several libraries, and one e-reader takes up less space than most individual books. If your eyes get tired, you could listen to audio books on it.>physical over e-readerYour entire library could be lost until you download it again if you break your e-reader- which is a lot easier to casually break than a book- unless you made a backup. You can't EMP paper, you don't have to charge it and you don't have to worry about big corporation updating it and making it more difficult to use or removing books from your library for being problematic in current year.
>>953321559E reader, I read like 80 books last year. Not gonna keep them physically around. E-ink with a warm backlight is the most comfy reading experience. Also most books are shit. They deserve to be copied. Just get a bigger size one that runs android so you can use a shitty app like Kindle, but also just view PDFs and epubs. In 2026 books are just for people who pose with them. But if they have an ereader you know they actually read.
>>953325380Could you give me your top ten from last year in case I've missed something good?
>>953325380Are books these days as woke as movies?
I am reading a book on my phone and have 3 physical books going. Trying to whittle them down.
>>953325550Books have been woke since literature.
>>953321559E-readers are great for preserving resources and space. They make it easy to carry entire libraries with you, and can enhance the reading experience in various ways like increasing the size of text and altering contrast...And when the world goes to shit and there's no convenient electricity anymore, they'll be fucking useless. Real books preserve knowledge. You can read one anytime, anywhere. The physical act of holding a book in your hands is relaxing. You can easily trade or sell a physical book.So it's up to you. Invest in the zeitgeist of the present or in the comfort of both history and preparedness of the future. Your choice.
>>953325571No, I mean woke as in full of minorities and constantly hating on straight, white males.
>>953325550Everybody can write a book. You find your woke books, you find your chud books. But it's like music where the sheer volume of shit coming out means that most stuff you read will be bad.
>>953325793You should probably read something
>>953325982>You should probably read somethingSuch as
>>953324795>> You can't EMP paperguy montag would disagree.
>>953324795>>physical over e-reader>Your entire library could be lost until you download it again if you break your e-reader- which is a lot easier to casually break than a book- unless you made a backup. Some people got really mad at nook when they disabled their windows app, and they didn't want to read their books on their phone. You don't own the e-books you spend money on and your access can be cut off unless you disabled the DRM and downloaded a pdf you can view without the app.You actually do own the physical books you buy.Another difference is nobody is tracking exactly what, where and how often you read physical books, especially if you pay cash for them. But often you are being spied on to collect many details about your reading habits when you're reading e-books.
You would think Microsoft is a big, stable company, and you could buy books from its bookstore without worrying about losing your books when it closed. But you would be wrong, pic related.
>>953328642That's true, too. I honestly don't know much about e-readers, much less the problems modern e-reader users face. I get my shit off Gutenberg.
>>953325550perhaps, but while there's about 120 years of movies to watch, there's about 5000 years of books to readthere's more good literature on gutenberg.org alone than you'll probably be able to read in your lifetime, unless you devote every waking hour for the rest of your life to reading
>>953328787this is why you download epubs from libgen o algo and back them upyou can store about 12,500 average epub books on a single BD-R disc, or 50,000 if it's just text epubs without embedded images
>>953321559physical books serve as a link to history and cannot be retroactively changed by interested partiesmany incunabula (books published within the first few decades of the invention of the printing press in the West) are still perfectly readable today, because they were printed on cloth paper (often linen) with pigment inks that do not fade much with timegranted, cheap books printed in the 19th and 20th centuries on acidic paper can be significantly damaged by time, but even today, books printed on high-quality paper have the ability to endure for centurieson the other hand, physical books are expensive, heavy, and can take up a great deal of physical spacethey are also susceptible to moisture, fire, sunlight, etc.ebooks are prone to loss due to storage errors or electronic formats, and if your ebooks are on an evil platform like Amazon, they can be redacted or rescinded at willon the other hand, you can fit thousands of books (or more) on a typical handheld device, and you can have them for free, depending on your scruples (or lack thereof)
Multiple books take up a lot of space, weigh a lot, and tend to mold. They cost more than digital books too.Ereaders suck more than books in every other way.
>>953325550Some yes. Some are even worse. I even saw a childrens book that went as woke as possible for the pure absurdity of it.
Can anyone here recommend a good e-reader that is not a Kindle?
>>953332199Kobo
>>953334641Which model
>>953325550>>953325571>>953325793>>953325917You just need to find what is good. Just because a million retards upload total shit to SoundCloud daily doesn't mean there still isn't good music today.
>>953329714>cannot be retroactively changed by interested parties>many incunabula (books published within the first few decades of the invention of the printing press in the West) are still perfectly readable todayOnly if you are seeking out original copies. Plenty of things are sanitized and altered by plublishers, like Mein Kampf. We read the sanitized version in my western civilization class in college and I didn't even realize it was altered until I got linked the real version on /pol/ years later.
>itt: zoomers with subscription service brain diseasewhy can't zoomies into piracy
>>953338262Kids these days can't even navigate file directories in a PC. They grew up using computers but can't do the most basic shit with them. Like some dumb woman who has driven a car for 30 years but can't change the oil or change a flat tire if her life depends on it.

ipad/ereader for everything since I read at night with dark mode on. Then if I love a book, I buy the physical copy.
