You can downplay the millionth scenario of a fluffy getting shredded by a giant grinder, somebody writing a story where a girl adopts a fluffy, the girl dies, and the father kicks the poor creature out into the snow while it begs for its life back hits home in a way you can't get rid of as easily. Because you know that that sort of thing happens in real life, you might even be able to relate that to the actual human experience. And a certain segment of hardened 4chan users enjoy that because they've been immune to feeling that sort of emotion for a long long time.
