>>24445260The badness of caffeine is that the negatives of it are just below the threshold where people can recognize them and what's going on with it, they take too long to show up. Caffeine-induced holes in reasoning combined with natural neuroplasticity causes people to gradually go insane as the brain rearranges itself based on broken reasoning, until it gets bad enough where some individuals are diagnosed with psychosis. But it's not the ones that are diagnosed that are a problem really, they're clearly insane, instead it's all the people who have psychotic traits yet not individually bad enough to be diagnosed. Collectively they become influential enough to distort the very culture of a society. The enlightenment and scientific boom throughout the 17th-20th centuries coincided with both widespread caffeine and widespread nicotine consumption, however nicotine was later damned as a universal burden while caffeine praised as the universal gift and seen as a contributing factor to the progress. Meanwhile as people smoked less people got dumber and breakthroughs were reduced down to advancing only what already exists and done in an almost robotic fashion, mindless trial and error and abiding old existing theories that are upholding less and less as more is known. Caffeine causes holes in a person's reasoning much like the webs caffeinated spiders make. In a highly caffeinated population, the reasoning appears to make sense to itself, but the holes are only patched once the evidence of a mistake becomes so incredibly large it's largely too late to avoid the consequences (harm too widespread). Hence the constant societal messes that keep being pushed and then rationalized too late.
