Basketball is a skillful hand-based ball game of 5 on 5 with bouncing the spherical ball an essential property of play. The purpose of the game is to get the ball into one of the 2 round 'hoops' on each end of the court. People can throw the ball from anywhere, but the point system rewards 2 points for close shots, and 3 points for long shots.

It's really a neat thing, because it's so unnecessary. Nothing about a sport is essential to living....but it can be fun to play and watch, if you 'get it'.
